This research seeks to highlight how the ancestral exploitation of gold in the village of San Antonio in the municipality of Zaragoza clearly demonstrates the various social and cultural problems in the region. These problems have historically plunged the region into a latent paradox. On the one hand, artisanal mining is the main source of income for families in Zaragoza who live among gold every day, as both a source of wealth and an ancestral tradition. On the other hand, communities are faced with a lack of genuine recognition and guarantees of their rights. This master's thesis calls for the creation of processes for the genuine recognition of the ancestral mining practices of the region's inhabitants, which would largely guarantee that their lives are lived within the bounds of legality and crime, given that historically, nearly 90% of the population relies on mining as their main source of livelihood. The state's inability to territorialize public mining policy paints a bleak picture for the community of San Antonio.

The prevention of bribery in the private sector has gained increasing relevance in corporate integrity agendas, particularly in contexts where interactions with public sector actors create complex ethical risk scenarios. Traditionally, organizational efforts have prioritized approaches centered on regulatory compliance, the strengthening of internal controls, and the adoption of regulatory frameworks. However, these instruments become limited when individual decisions are mediated by collective dynamics, shared perceptions, and social expectations that shape what is considered acceptable, expected, or tolerated within specific organizational and sectoral environments. From this perspective, understanding bribery solely as an individual deviation or as a problem of formal incentives limits the possibility of intervening in a structural manner. Contributions from social norms theory have broadened this understanding by situating ethical behavior at the intersection of personal beliefs, expectations about what others do (empirical expectations), and perceptions of what others approve or disapprove of (normative expectations). This approach recognizes that decisions do not occur in a vacuum but rather within social frameworks where conformity, reputation, hierarchy, and contextual pressures influence action. Consequently, efforts to strengthen organizational integrity require diagnostic approaches that go beyond declarative commitments and explore the social structures that sustain—or weaken—ethical behavior. Within this framework, social innovation applied to the business environment opens opportunities to design more comprehensive cultural change strategies. This implies not only identifying compliance gaps but also understanding behavioral patterns, zones of normative ambiguity, and tensions between individual moral judgment and perceived social expectations. Diagnosing these dynamics helps guide interventions that act upon the social mechanisms that reproduce practices, fostering environments in which integrity is also supported by shared consensus and aligned expectations. This study was conducted with private sector companies participating in an anti-corruption business alliance, whose sectors maintain frequent interaction with public sector entities. In line with the defined scope, the analysis focused on the sectors represented within the alliance, preserving the confidentiality of the organizations and avoiding their individual identification. This delimitation made it possible to explore sectoral patterns from a situated diagnostic perspective, without intending to generalize findings to the broader business universe. The general objective of the study was to map and understand behavioral patterns associated with bribery prevention—customs, descriptive norms, and social expectations—that influence decision-making processes among private sector actors interacting with the public sector, through an instrument based on vignettes and counterfactual scenarios. Specifically, the study aimed to: identify empirical and normative expectations that may condition ethical decisions; explore their potential effect on declared behavioral preferences; analyze variations according to the type of social pressure—prescriptive, proscriptive, or hierarchical—and the business sector; and examine the relationship between social expectations and the declared preference to act ethically, in order to identify social mechanisms that reinforce or weaken organizational integrity. Methodologically, the study employed vignettes and counterfactual scenarios as its central diagnostic tool, allowing the observation of judgments and declared preferences in simulated situations involving bribery risk. This approach made it possible to approximate social dimensions of behavior that rarely emerge through direct questioning, by placing participants in contextualized dilemmas where formal rules, social pressures, and practical considerations interact. Finally, given its exploratory and diagnostic scope, the analysis was not intended to determine the existence of consolidated social norms in a strict sense. Instead, it prioritized mapping shared perceptions and social expectations as signals regarding the strength, ambiguity, or fragmentation of normative references surrounding bribery prevention. These findings provide input for the formulation of recommendations aimed at cultural change, the strengthening of organizational integrity, and the design of social innovation strategies within the companies participating in the alliance.

This research presents an analysis of the Incuval Ventures entrepreneurship program, managed by the Universidad Nacional Hermilio Valdizán in the Huánuco region of Peru. The study focuses on identifying the factors that contribute to and limit the program's progress between 2021 and 2023, with the aim of proposing improvements for its management and sustainability. The research addresses the issues of informality and the low level of entrepreneurship in Huánuco, two factors that negatively impact the region's economic and social development. This combination of methods allows for a comprehensive view of the program's management, participants' perceptions, and the achievements made. The thesis explores the implementation of the program, including participation and inclusion strategies, achievements obtained, and sustainability strategies, evaluating the perceptions of entrepreneurs and university authorities. Finally, the applied proposal aims to strengthen the acceleration phase of ventures toward the formation of BIC (Benefit and Collective Interest) companies. This strategy seeks to consolidate the sustainability of the ventures and align their goals with the principles of triple impact: economic, social, and environmental. It is expected that this proposal will contribute to the development of formalized businesses that generate a positive impact in the Huánuco region.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Mejía Martínez, Dolka Vicenta; Ortiz Rodríguez, Catalina Isabel
The Wayuu Culture Festival, declared a National Cultural Heritage in Colombia, has been an emblematic event that has played a crucial role in preserving the cultural identity and traditions of the Wayuu people. This event has served as an act of resistance and a space to strengthen the autonomy of this indigenous community. However, since 2018, its suspension has created a significant void, affecting the transmission of traditions and social cohesion in the region. Factors such as lack of funding, security issues, and adverse climatic conditions have contributed to its interruption. This research aimed to analyze the impact of the festival’s suspension on the Wayuu community, evaluating its social and cultural effects. Additionally, it explores the role of digitalization as a tool to revitalize and ensure the sustainability of the event, with the objective of strengthening the preservation, promotion, and visibility of Wayuu traditions in a global context. Through documentary analysis and interviews focusing on the festival editions from the 20th to the 30th, a growing concern was identified regarding the future of Wayuu culture and the need for a digital solution to reactivate the festival, adapting to contemporary challenges. This study intends to propose viable digital strategies for the festival’s reactivation, contributing to the preservation of its cultural heritage and the strengthening of its autonomy.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Banoy Ferreira, Claudia Ligia; Montes Gutiérrez, Isabel Cristina
This study analyzes how the Beca Talento program of the Fundación Fondecor has either supported or limited the factors that influence the university retention of young students from the department of La Guajira. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved an in-depth analysis of the experiences of 27 scholarship recipients through semi-structured interviews and open-ended survey responses. The collected data was processed using a coding system within Atlas.ti software. The findings were organized into five analytical components: psycho-affective, socio-contextual, academic, institutional, and coping and self-regulation. The study identified both positive and negative factors influencing persistence in higher education, including family and community support, socioeconomic conditions, academic trajectories, the presence or absence of institutional support, and individual coping and emotional self-regulation strategies. The results highlight the scholarship’s role not only as financial aid but also as a mechanism for social transformation. The study concludes that the program significantly contributes to building sustainable life projects in contexts of high vulnerability, although it must be strengthened in areas such as psychosocial and institutional support. This research offers tools for designing more inclusive and sustainable educational policies in regions facing structural challenges.

Programa beca 18 : implementación de mecanismos de seguimiento y monitoreo a los becarios hasta su inserción laboral, y su aporte al desarrollo en la localidad de origen en la Universidad Católica San Pablo de Arequipa en el periodo 2019-2021
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Banich Galdos, Juan Carlos; Eslava Gómez, Adolfo
Scholarship Program 18: Implementation of follow-up and monitoring mechanisms for scholarship recipients until their job placement, and their contribution to development in the town of origin at the San Pablo Catholic University of Arequipa in the period 2019-2021, is a research that seeks to examine if the services provided by the San Pablo Catholic University to the beneficiaries of the aforementioned scholarship are managing to contribute to the needs of the students, taking into account their characteristics, and above all, if they promote adequate follow-up and monitoring once the programs have ended. studies, both for their job placement, and with the impact they must generate for the development of their town of origin. Based on what has been described, this thesis aims to determine the factors that allow or prevent the Beca 18 program from generating adequate follow-up, monitoring and impact of the scholarship recipients during their studies and after them, by analyzing the relationship between the needs of the students and the services offered by the university, and highlighting the level of responsibility and commitment of the scholarship recipients, through respect for their customs and traditions. It also focuses on reviewing the work carried out by State agencies, through the PRONABEC program to articulate this between the private and public sectors. Likewise, it involves the participation and perception of Civil Society and Academia. Bringing together, in this way, the main social actors who must participate in the territorial development of a country. The research is carried out in the context of the proposal proposed by Sen (1996), indicating that capacity is important within social and political analysis, since for the individual to be able to live as he would like, it is strengthened by a policy. public, which is capable of transforming social environments. Likewise, as stated by Nussbaum (2012), when indicating that quality of life is subject to satisfying basic needs, and, furthermore, to the opportunity and capacity depending on the community. Asking the question: what is each person capable of doing and being? Since it indicates that this approach is related to respect for people's powers of self-definition and the importance of developing internal capabilities through education. The present study is qualitative and to carry it out it has used tools such as documentary review, the application of interviews and questionnaires. From the Social Management approach, this study allowed us to make decisions aligned with the search for development, well-being, good living and quality of life of the scholarship recipients who have accessed this opportunity and that allows them a true social transformation of themselves and of their town of origin. Likewise, it provides valuable information on the return on the State's investment in the applied source and in the formation of Human Capital in the rural locations from which the majority of the scholarship recipients come. As a general conclusion, it is highlighted that spaces of trust must be generated between the actors involved, given the level of articulation, through the participation and involvement that must be carried out between them. There must be support from parents and/or guardians, in addition to representatives of the scholarship recipient's home towns. And, it is very important, the degree of commitment and responsibility that the scholarship recipient must have, towards himself, on a personal and professional level, but without forgetting the contribution he must generate with his community. As a general recommendation, it is indicated that the program should start from respect and intercultural treatment, including the idiosyncrasies and customs in its various decentralized offices, to strengthen the link between scholarship recipients and the educational institution and thus generate interaction with other entities. It is considered that the contribution made by this research promoted improvements in monitoring, follow-up and contribution to development in the town of the scholarship recipients.

This thesis addresses the current state and challenges of grassroots Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Medellín, focusing on the urgent need to strengthen their capacities to ensure their economic and operational sustainability and their role as agents of social change. The work is based on the premise that organized collective action is essential to counteract growing individualism and social inequality, and that CSOs are key actors in building more just and democratic societies. The research asks, with urgency and empathy, what capacities these organizations need to strengthen to not only survive but also lead processes of change. What factors weaken them? Why, despite their commitment, do they continue to be neglected? At a time when international cooperation is declining and challenges are multiplying, this work seeks answers that dignify their work and recognize their role as essential actors in the social fabric.

The objective of this study is to determine, measure, and communicate the social and environmental impact of the Commercial Use of Amazonian Mushrooms Program in the indigenous community of Concordia, Guainía. This information primarily aims to strengthen transparency and trust among the stakeholders involved in the program, including funders, by providing them with a high-value informational resource for their organizations. The study will clearly reflect the impact generated in the intervened community, particularly in social and environmental aspects. On the other hand, this study will be of utmost importance to the indigenous community of Concordia, as it will provide them with a tool for decision-making, attracting new investors, and consolidating a positive image by demonstrating efficiency and responsibility in the use of acquired resources. It is expected that this document will serve as a starting point for the indigenous community of Concordia to project its future while also identifying opportunities and areas for improvement. To gather the data, the Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology will be applied to the Commercial Use of Amazonian Mushrooms Program in the indigenous community of Concordia, Guainía. It is worth highlighting that this program is in an advanced stage of implementation within the Concordia community, with plans to expand its reach with the implementation of the prototype cultivation system in other parts of the Inírida municipality. For the construction of this study, information will be taken directly from the population of the Indigenous Community of Concordia to reveal the impacts achieved during this period, thus lending dynamism and reliability to the final results. This will also expose the differential dynamics that concern work in territories with ethnic populations. It is vitally important to begin opening critical dialogues to transform the inequality gaps within communities. This will require initiatives that stem from the territory and its people, from local experiences that deserve to be replicated, as well as from experiences that were unsuccessful and should not be repeated or, if necessary, transformed. This is achieved by documenting and generating reliable information available to the general public.
