This master's thesis proposes a method to improve logistical efficiency in industrial companies by reducing operational travel distances and increasing productivity in order picking processes. The proposed solution applies an ABC/XYZ classification based on historical data extracted from the ERP system of the case study company, considering both the economic value and the frequency of movement of items. This analysis was automated using a Python-based template executed in Google Colab, enabling the calculation of key metrics such as average picking time, number of order lines, and the distribution of items according to operational modality (storage or cross docking). The core of the proposal lies in a technical redistribution of the warehouse layout to position critical items in high-accessibility zones, thereby minimizing the distance traveled per order. Various operational improvement scenarios were simulated to forecast gains in daily capacity without increasing staff. The results show a 13.7% reduction in average travel distance per order and over 50% cost savings in operations under a 30% efficiency improvement scenario. The model is replicable, traceable, and highly compatible with warehouse management systems (WMS), providing tangible benefits for optimizing logistics processes in distribution centers.

Diseño a flexocompresión de columnas empleando envolventes de respuesta sísmica vectoriales - Implicaciones normativas y económicas
(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Monroy Yepes, Alejandro; Jaramillo Fernández, Juan Diego; Risk and Design Consulting S.A.S
This paper presents comparative results of the structural design of reinforced concrete columns using 3 different methodologies for the calculation of the maximum expected seismic demands. The first one, corresponds to the design using the combination of the maximum values of axial load and bending moments obtained from a response spectrum modal elastic analysis; in the second one structural design is made for all the actions obtained from linear chronological elastic analyses; and the last one corresponding to the structural design using the envelope of vectorial seismic responses proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian (2000). Each of the methodologies used is developed following the requirements defined in the Colombian Seismic Resistant Construction Regulation (NSR-10). As a result of the present article, the economic advantages (reductions up to 50% in reinforcement steel) obtained by using the method proposed by Menun and Der Kiureghian, which additionally, represents in a better way the maximum expected seismic vector response of the columns, are highlighted.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Flórez-Durango, José David; Giraldo Galindo, Michael Daniel
The study addresses the design of an energy labeling system for motorcycles in Colombia, aimed at promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, which represents a significant contribution to the country's energy consumption and emissions. Based on international experiences and a review of programs implemented in countries such as Brazil, Vietnam and Thailand, key strategies were identified, including fuel consumption regulation, tax incentives, and the promotion of clean technologies. This labeling system not only seeks to inform consumers about the energy efficiency of vehicles, but also to encourage manufacturers to adopt stricter standards and sustainable technologies, thus contributing to compliance with national decarbonization goals and international environmental commitments. Furthermore, the study highlights the impact of energy labeling policies in fostering responsible purchasing decisions and developing a more sustainable motorcycle market in Colombia.

The increasing need to use alternative aggregates to replace natural stone aggregates in the production of asphalt mixtures has led the road construction industry to evaluate the behavior of new materials, including expanded clays. This research evaluates the physical and mechanical behavior in the laboratory of a cold asphalt mixture (CMA) made with expanded clay, in which the natural aggregates were completely replaced by Arlita, expanded clay, and the bulk density, void percentage, permeability, abrasion loss, indirect traction, resilient modulus, elastic modulus and permanent deformation were measured. A comparative method was used to analyze the experimental results with the general specifications for road construction of the National Institute of Roads of the Republic of Colombia (INVIAS); the document also presents the benefits and limitations of the asphalt mixture.

In recent years, SMEs have faced an accelerated digital transformation due to the benefits it brings to corporate resilience. However, this has not been easy, as it must be accompanied by a strategic process that involves cultural, organizational and technological changes at the corporate level. This article presents a digital transformation adoption model for SMEs made up of three components: organizational readiness, technological adoption, and cultural change; the model is based on the enterprise architecture discipline - TOGAF framework, and the COPRAS method. To achieve this, a literature review was carried out that allowed characterizing the digital transformation adoption processes for SMEs; this was complemented with a survey that allowed understanding the challenges, capabilities, opportunities and obstacles that SMEs face during this process. Once the model was defined, its possible adoption was validated among the participants of the initial survey. The results showed that, according to the components of the model, companies prioritize as initial capabilities: organizational impact, technological adoption, information security, comfort in using technology, technological talent and support from management that prioritize the metrics: ROI, cost reduction, information technology infrastructure, availability, leadership management and adaptation to change. Finally, it can be concluded in general that SMEs are willing to adopt and adapt a digital transformation process supported by TOGAF and COPRAS, since by being able to measure capabilities early, the model allows them to accelerate the digital transformation process in a more comprehensive and disciplined way.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Ramos García, Miguel Fernando; Correa Botero, Daniel
In application development, the performance efficiency of web services is essential due to its direct impact on loading speed, scalability and end-user experience. Previous research has explored web service communication technologies such as REST and GraphQL, without reaching a consensus on which one handles large data transfers more efficiently. The challenge is to determine which of these two web services communication technologies, REST or GraphQL provide faster response times for large data volume requests. To this end, it is proposed to compare both technologies under controlled conditions to identify which one offers better performance. The results of this study aim to provide clear guidance to those designing and developing applications, allowing them to choose the web services communication technology that best suits their needs and improves their users' experience.
