Design/methodology/approach Elements of systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis were used to analyze theories, contexts, characteristics, methodologies and opportunities for future research based on 90 articles published in 50 journals over 27 years. Findings The findings suggest that this is a contemporary yet expanding research field explored from a variety of theoretical, methodological and empirical standpoints, which hinders broad conclusions and warrants further research. More specifically, this paper identifies three broad research streams that link international expansion and corporate reputation and suggests avenues for future studies: cross-national institutions, strategic decisions and corporate reputation; international marketing, consumers and brand credibility; and corporate image, international trade and investment flows. Originality/value Reputation and internationalization are constructs with multiple applications and interpretations. The way companies build, maintain and extend their reputation and legitimacy, and the drivers, motives and difficulties faced by them when expanding operations internationally have been widely studied separately. This manuscript reviews the nascent and promising linkage between these two elements that have recently drawn the attention of business practitioners and scholars alike.Ítem Assessing the needs of international markets against an emerging market company's capabilities: A tool for internationalization(Wiley-Liss Inc., 2019-01-01) Piedrahita C.E.; De Villa, Maria AndreaSenior managers in emerging markets often strive to ensure that their companies develop sufficient capabilities to confront the needs they encounter in international markets. However, extant research and practice remain unclear as to how senior managers in emerging market companies can approach assessing the needs of their international markets against their own company's capabilities, to aim for a balance between both. This article offers an innovative approach for assessing the needs of international markets against an emerging market company's capabilities. Based on the assessments of 100 senior managers leading emerging market companies, we explain how this approach can provide two key insights. First, evidence of a balance between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities, that indicates the company's competitive position is focused; or evidence of an imbalance between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities, that indicates the company's competitive position is either vulnerable or overqualified. Second, an understanding of where the gaps between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities are, that enables improving the company's competitive position by closing these gaps. Drawing on this approach, we offer an open access tool that allows senior managers in emerging markets to identify and improve their own company's competitive position for internationalization. Using this tool, senior managers can lead their emerging market companies toward a focused competitive position in international markets, providing better chances of successfully capturing potential benefits. The objective of this paper is to analyze from the resource-based theory how a born global firm engages in international market. This empirical investigation has been carried out as an explorative single-case study, a high-tech firm, Digital Partner, based in Medellin, Antioquia. The main findings of the research show that organizational capabilities based on intellectual capital are crucial for the development of a born global. Thus, capabilities such as entrepreneurship, global vision, internationally market knowledge, learning management, IT capabilities, technological innovation, collaborative work, networks and customer orientation are recurrent and they correspond to other similar research results. Contributions of the study are both academic (for the advance of the research in born global field) and practical (for the design of governmental policies to foster born global firms). © Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Facultad de Economía y Negocios.Ítem Boundary games: How teams of OR practitioners explore the boundaries of intervention(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2016-03-16) Velez-Castiblanco, J.; Brocklesby, J.; Midgley, G.An operational research (OR) practitioner designing an intervention needs to engage in a practical process for choosing methods and implementing them. When a team of OR practitioners does this, and/or clients and stakeholders are involved, the social dynamics of designing the approach can be complex. So far, hardly any theory has been provided to support our understanding of these social dynamics. To this end, our paper offers a theory of `boundary games'. It is proposed that decision making on the configuration of the OR approach is shaped by communications concerning boundary judgements. These communications involve the OR practitioners in the team (and other participants, when relevant) `setting', `following', `enhancing', `wandering outside', `challenging' and `probing' boundaries concerning the nature of the context and the methods to be used. Empirical vignettes are provided of a project where three OR practitioners with different forms of methodological expertise collaborated on an intervention to support a Regional Council in New Zealand. In deciding how to approach a problem structuring workshop where the Regional Council employees would be participants, the OR team had to negotiate their methodological boundaries in some detail. The paper demonstrates that the theory of boundary games helps to analyse and describe the shifts in thinking that take place in this kind of team decision making. A number of implications for OR practitioners are discussed, including how this theory can contribute to reflective practice and improve awareness of what is happening during communications with OR colleagues, clients and participants. Thirty-one semi-structured interviews took place among smaller-sized, service-oriented internationalising firms located in three countries within the southern hemisphere: two emerging economies (Chile and Colombia) and one developed economy (New Zealand). The findings indicate that some management teams were able to develop threshold capabilities enabling them to operate outside their domestic market. In contrast, certain management teams appeared to possess dynamic capabilities, facilitating their evolving business models and sustainability. Particular capabilities allowed the respective firms, regardless of their national origin, to exhibit varying performance-enhancing internationalisation strategies. The study contributes to theory and practice in the domain of entrepreneurial marketing, offering new insights questioning whether certain capabilities are enough to sustain particular management teams’ internationalisation behaviour. © 2020 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.Ítem Las causas de la curiosidad(Publicaciones SEMANA, 2020-02-02) Gonzalez-Perez, Maria AlejandraÍtem Las causas de la curiosidad(2020-02-02) Gonzalez-Perez, Maria AlejandraNuestra demanda insaciable por información mueve parte importante de la economía global, y al mismo tiempo impulsa el conocimiento y da alientos a nuestro aprendizaje.Ítem Climate Change And The 2030 Corporate Agenda For Sustainable Development(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2017-01-01) Gonzalez-Perez, Maria AlejandraPurpose - This chapter aims to provide an overview of the Paris Climate Agreement, and to explore the meaning of this universal agreement for business. Design/methodology/approach - This introductory chapter relies on secondary sources, and brings together evidence- based, conceptual and theoretical contributions from a diverse set of geographical locations, and disciplinary backgrounds. Findings - It was found that although there is skepticism about achieving the ambitious set targets in the Paris Climate Agreement, the explicit political will from governments and business alike could be the engine for achieving the goals. Originality/value - This chapter questions if the COP21 is the beginning of the end to the era of oil.Ítem Colombian millennials at the workplace(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2019-01-08) Roman-Calderon J.P.; Gonzales-Miranda D.R.; García G.A.; Gallo O.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a study on the antecedents of turnover intentions (TOI) of millennial Colombian employees. A theoretical model in which positive work-family interaction, professional respect (PR) and meaning predicted TOI is simultaneously tested in Millennials and Xers. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used a multigroup structural equation approach to analyze the data provided by 2,157 Millennials and 279 Xers. Participants work in 11 companies from five Colombian cities. City, age, sex, tenure and wage are included as control variables to respond to some limitations of previous research and isolate the effects of age cohorts. Findings: The results show differences in terms of some of the variables under study. Further, the effects of positive work-family interaction and PR on TOI were different from one age cohort to the other. The influence of meaning on the outcome variable was equal in Millennials and Xers but resulted positive. Research limitations/implications: The authors studied an under-researched population, used rigorous analytical procedures to simultaneously test the hypotheses across generations, analyzed data from a large sample size and control for confounding variables identified by researchers inquiring generational differences at the workplace. By these means, the study contributes to literature on millennial employees and age diversity. Originality/value: By studying an under-reseach population and using suitable analytical techniques, the study contributes to literature on millennial employees and age diversity. © 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.Ítem Conceptual knowledge modeling as support in knowledge engineering(Universidad de Tarapaca, 2012-01-01) Henao-Calad, M.; Rodríguez-Lora, V.This article introduces a proposal for knowledge models use to support knowledge engineering processes. The proposed knowledge model allows the presentation on a structured way of a domain's declarative knowledge, through the knowledge representation technique of concept maps. Knowledge Engineering has been related with the development of systems based on knowledge where knowledge and reasoning are the main players. As a discipline, leads the task of building smart systems offering tools and methods that support the implementation of such system, involving: knowledge gathering, getting to know the domain, solution analysis and design, and knowledge validation. All of this integrates the knowledge engineering processes: acquisition, representation and knowledge manipulation/validation. In this article shows how a knowledge model based on concept maps supports the achievement of each of these processes, allowing domain concepts to be easily identifiable and organized on a hierarchical way, achieving the generation of a global domain vision and a homologation of its concepts. Additionally, the case of a knowledge model is presented, created as part of the project "Petroleum Geology of Colombia" being implemented on the Geology department of EAFIT University, and sponsored by ANH of Colombia, where the knowledge of geologist and engineers experts on Colombian petroliferous basins is presented.Ítem Construcción de un concepto de conocimiento gerencial como aporte a la estrategia corporativa(2013-07-01) Rivas, Luz MariaEn este artículo se hace un breve recorrido por el campo de la estrategia, en busca del lugar que se le ha dado al conocimiento desde esta perspectiva.
