Ítem Análisis comparativo de políticas de diseño en Europa: Clasificación y visualización de estrategias(Universidad de Caldas, 2017-01-01) González C.G.; López M.L.; Hernández M.C.This analysis is part of the doctoral thesis project "The Design System in the Mediterranean Arc Euroregion: priorities for the characterization of a strategic model". Its purpose is to make a comparison between different design policies in Europe. This study started with a bibliographical review on the implementation of policies for strategic design in different countries and regions of Europe, as well as the analysis of competitiveness corporate ladder, competitiveness in design, innovation performance, etc. Because of these analyses, five countries and one region were selected: United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Estonia and Flanders. Information coding was conducted following the grounded theory research. Segments of analysis in the literature review, which were not preconceived prior to the initiation of this investigation, were identified and grouped into categories. Subsequently, matrix analyses and relationship networks or concept maps were used to visually demonstrate and compare the strategies that make up the design policies in each country/region. In addition, a relationship between competitiveness corporate ladder, growth of competitiveness and performance in innovation with the maps of the strategies could be established. The countries in the top 15 of the different rankings are those that have a higher chromatic brand because they have a higher number of strategies that promote design as a strategy. This comparative analysis can be used in different types of design policies of any territory in order to carry out an initial detection of existing strategies and to know the complexity of a specific design policy.Ítem Antecedentes de las intenciones de abandono en cooperativas Colombianas(FUNDACAO GETULIO VARGAS, 2014-01-01) Román-Calderón, J.P.; Battistelli, A.; Vargas-Saenz, M.This paper presents a study on the intentions to quit of employees working in Colombian cooperatives. These enterprises were created to include woman affected by political violence into the labor market. According to some scholars, cooperative enterprises driven by a fundamental social mission face retention and recruitment problems. 332 workers participated in the survey. Structural Equation Modeling was used for data analyses. The findings suggest that within this type of enterprise, leader-member exchange has a negative indirect effect on turnover intentions. Consistent with previous research, this relationship is mediated by perceived organizational support. Moreover, the relationship between leader- member exchange and turnover intentions is also mediated by job-embeddedness. The limitations of the study as well as practical and theoretical implications are presented at the end of the paper. © RAE.Ítem Antecedents of turnover intentions in Colombian cooperatives(FUNDACAO GETULIO VARGAS, 2014-11-01) Pablo Roman-Calderon, Juan; Battistelli, Adalgisa; Vargas-Saenz, MarioThis paper presents a study on the intentions to quit of employees working in Colombian cooperatives. Departamento de Administración; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)Currently many companies base their marketing strategy around a family of products. Thus, they regularly add new variations to products in order to meet changing market needs, or to attract new customers. Although the basic functionality remains unchanged across products, new features, aesthetic appearance and technologies are incorporated in each new product. This if it is not checked, can generate the "complexity of the product," which leads to a loss of productivity or quality. Thus, the effective management of product variations in design and manufacturing is challenging. The key is minimizing the non-value added variations through models within a range of options without limiting customers. This article discusses the factors that contribute to the "complexity of the product" and this is done through the product line commonality index (PCI) [1], which measures the level of common parts in a product family. A case study of bicycle frame displays its implementation and functionality. The index shows the possibility that the products in a family share parts effectively (modularity) and reduces the total number of parts (multifunctionality). © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.Ítem An Approach to the Concepts of Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship(Editorial Universidad Del Rosario, 2020-07-01) Saavedra Garcia, Maria Luisa; Camarena Adame, Maria Elena; Vargas Saenz, Mario EnriqueThe entrepreneur and social entrepreneurship as research topics in Latin America are still in an initial stage, and there is no consensus about its conceptualization. For this reason, this work aims to analyze the concepts of entrepreneur and social entrepreneurship, in order to serve as a reference for further studies and provide greater understanding of this phenomenon. The method used was a documentary research, carrying out a literature review of research papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The main findings allow identifying the main variables contained in both concepts, which are useful for future research.Ítem El artista callejero en Plaza Botero(2004-07-01) Macias, J.Ítem Atributos que empresarios en Antioquia valoran en funcionarios de nivel directivo(Editorial Universidad del Norte, 2018-08-01) Macias, J.El tema central de este artículo es la determinación de los atributos que los empresarios antioqueños valoran en un funcionario de nivel directivo. Departamento de Administración; Innovación, Empresarismo y Sostenibilidad (GUIES)Many Afro-descendants residing in Medellin seek to have an impact on their territories to achieve and guarantee minimum economic conditions for a better communities’ quality of life and the preservation of their cultural identity. Using a propositional and qualitative approach, this chapter analyzes the process of inception and development of these black entrepreneurships, from the study of three specific cases. Entrepreneurship processes carried out by the Afro-descendant population of the District 13 in Medellin have been surrounded by an institutional context that these entrepreneurs have taken advantage of to develop their entrepreneurial activities. The entrepreneurs who participated in the study move continuously between the formal and the informal economy. While they look for opportunities to generate income through informal ways (subsistence strategies such as food preparation, cleaning, and masonry), they also use formal ways (participation in institutional programs of business entrepreneurship promotion). © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.Ítem Business Ecosystems and Social Innovation: Evidence from Colombia and Mexico(Emerald, 2019-05-30) Macias, J.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Administración; Innovación, Empresarismo y Sostenibilidad (GUIES)Ítem Ciudades Intermedias: Desafios para la Internacionalizacion(2007-01-01) ACEVEDO, MANUEL ESTEBANÍtem Concordancia de las políticas de diseño con el marco de medición de la innovación del Manual de Oslo(UNIV DIEGO PORTALES, 2018-01-01) Gómez-González C.; López M.L.; Hernández Monsalve M.C.The purpose of this analysis is to establish a correspondence of design policies with the innovation measurement framework of the Oslo Manual (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, 2005). Its importance lies in the fact that, although among academics and professionals design has been recognized as an engine of economic development at both micro and macro levels, it is not recognized by policymakers; which implies that innovation policies are an established academic field while design policies remain as an emerging one. This study includes the analysis of six design policies from European countries or regions, which led to the identification of different strategies that are influenced by infrastructure and institutional framework, design promotion, education systems, etc. Those strategies were categorized into twelve groups using methodologies of qualitative content analysis. Afterwards, a SWOT analysis developed for each of the twelve categories allowed to established a relation between them and the stakeholders of the Oslo Manual’s framework, in addition to the possibility to compare its implementation in each of the six-analyzed countries or regions. This graphical correlation showed that the existing links between the stakeholders of the system are the same links that exist between categories; therefore, the strategies of the different categories reinforce the links and ties between the different stakeholders of a system of Innovation from a country/region. This methodology can be adapted to analyze the design policy of any region. Replicate the results of this research would enable to standardize Latin American design policies in a global context by allowing them to be compared with systems from leading countries. © 2018 Universidad Diego Portales. Departamento de Administración; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play an important role on the promotion and development of creative industries (e.g. product design companies). These roles, however, are not clearly defined. Previous studies by the authors, conducted in Colombia, encountered several critical internal factors as well as environmental relationships proper of the ecosystem of business that affect performance in creative industries. HEIs can promote specific activities to become agents that enhance the development of these creative industries, thus contributing to overcome environmental and critical internal factors. This paper presents a model that can serve as a starting point within HEIs to establish policies towards this goal. For such purpose, the present research extended the aforementioned studies to Argentina and the United States, countries recognized worldwide for the development of "creative industries" or "creative economy". Fieldwork was performed in nine cities: two in Colombia, two in Argentina and five in the United States. Data was collected via interviews and focus group studies conducted at universities and creative industries, as well as with experts, government representatives and support organisations. A PESTEL analysis was used to identify weaknesses that could become opportunities for action within HEIs. The results allow for the establishment of nine key roles of the HEIs (i.e. education, moderator of the ecosystem, research, foster discussion, investment, on-going support, dynamism, joker, and simulation/real environment) that can be related to these institutions' substantive functions (i.e. teaching, research, extension, and support and integration), which contribute to enhance the development of creative industries, their growth and long-term sustainability. © 2015, The Design Society. Departamento de Administración; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)This work-in-progress research paper presents a study on employability skills. Employability or soft skills refer to personality traits, attitudes and behavior that are complementary to professional knowledge. These skills are part of a series of competencies that are intertwined with the engineer's technical work [1]. A high percentage of job success depends on employability skills [2]. A gap exists between the attributes of engineering graduates and company requirements [3]. Experiential learning can develop a myriad of skills required by the workplace. Universidad EAFIT, located in Medellin (Colombia), has developed an experiential learning program called KRATOS. KRATOS was sent an invitation to participate in an international competition that implied designing and building a solar/electric powered vehicle. Think creatively is a competency that is important for engineering practice across areas, disciplines and countries [1]. Although student competitions that include design activities may enhance a passion for engineering, they can also have negative emotional consequences [4] (i.e. job tension). Using the structural equation modeling technique, the authors of this study analyzed the responses of 334 undergraduate students. The results of the study indicate that job tension significantly decreased over time, whereas no significant change was detected in terms of creativity. © 2018 IEEE.
