Disaster Risk Management In Business Education Entrepreneurial Formation For Corporate Sustainability
(Fondo Editorial Universidad EAFIT, 2016-07-19) Herrera-Cano, Carolina
The purpose of this paper is to show the importance of business education in Disaster Risk Management (DRM). This paper aims to evaluate the awareness level of the Master in Business Administration's (MBA) students regarding the importance disaster risk management (DRM) plays. This paper develops a literature review concerning the concept of disasters, Disaster Risk Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, and the role of MBA programs. Furthermore, a survey at Universidad EAFIT (Medellin, Colombia) was designed and implemented as primary source information with the purpose of showing the DRM awareness level of MBA's students. Finally, a case study connecting DRM with entrepreneurship formation is described. This paper identified a limited formal education in DRM Latin American MBA programs, and specifically at Universidad EAFIT. Additionally, a lack of awareness in MBA's students about the importance of DRM was identified. In this sense, the paper proposes a DRM education model that uses a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and entrepreneurial formation in business education. This study aims to show the importance of the inclusion of disaster risk reduction and management knowledge as part of the courses in: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship content in Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programs.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Salazar Duque, Juan Victor; Morales Isaza, Sergio Andrés; Saavedra Caballero, Fabiola
This research aims to create, from a multiple linear regression model, an empirical contribution to determine how the characteristics and skills of managers, in addition to the financial variables traditionally used, relate to and impact the profitability and sustainability of micro, small and medium-sized companies in the Colombian context. To achieve this objective, we used the financial and managerial information of 2016 of 35 Colombian MiPymes companies from different economic sectors; 25 financial ratios were calculated through the financial statements, 10 management skills were measured through surveys and 10 characterization variables were defined related to each company and its manager to be used as independent variables in a multiple linear regression model using the EBITDA margin as a dependent variable in order to represent the profitability and sustainability of these companies. It was found that some characteristic variables of the managers and senior managers of the companies, such as their self-confidence, their affinity to face new challenges, their role, among others, significantly affect the behavior of the EBITDA Margin, demonstrating that there is a relationship between the way these managers make decisions and the performance of the company.

Proceso de ASC - INVESTIGACION-CREACION: APROPIACION SOCIAL DEL CONOCIMIENTO A TRAVES DEL DISEÑO DE UN MODELO DE HUERTA URBANA EN MEDELLIN
(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Mejía-Gil, María Claudia; Higuita-Olaya, Daniel; Universidad EAFIT
Malnutrition and food insecurity are two complex problems that Colombia, like the rest of the world, is trying to solve. Urban gardens have been an option that some countries and cities have used to mitigate this crisis, as this strategy allows households to have chemical-free food permanently, to satisfy their own consumption. Around the world, this initiative has been widely used for communities and cities to overcome poverty and food crises. It is for these reasons that the SMART and INSIGHT Seedbed, both from the Marketing and Innovation area of the EAFIT University School of Administration, as well as the Culturama seedbed, from the Faculty of Design of the Pontifical Bolivarian University, propose this research project. that seeks to contribute to the social appropriation of knowledge in sustainability through the design of an urban garden model in Medellín that is sustainable and replicable to other environments. The social appropriation of knowledge in sustainability will permeate not only the people of the communities chosen to create the gardens, but also the students of the seedbeds participating in the project.

    Stained Supply Chains
(Universidad EAFIT, 2021-12-17) Vásquez Martínez, Laura Isabel; Universidad EAFIT
Nowadays the fashion industry has impressive proportions. Production volumes have increased at an accelerated rhythm within the last 20 years. The pressure for costs’ reduction and the desire of the consumers to acquire every time more clothing has led to the enterprises to engage in stained pro-duction processes. Exploitation of the employees and environmental pollution are involved in their practices. This essay aims to expose labor conditions that this industrial sector offers in the Asian continent, mainly in China and India. It concludes that workers’ abuse is intrinsically present in the productive stage of the fashion supply chain.
