And in our case, that of economists who have witnessed a country and a time whose rates of increase in GDP per capita have gone in about two or three decades, from relatively normal to others rather low average levels, the attraction of this issue has become especially intense. Overcame so intense that, in my case, to the consciousness of the immense difficulties they would face if addressed, and knowing that the chance of saying something really new was nil, or almost.Ítem Collaborative virtual environments for teaching physics(SPRINGER, 2007-01-01) Giraldo, F.; Rojas, Á.M.J.; Esteban, P.; Trefftz, H.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesEafit University created a Telepresence application for distance education. It supports bidirectional audio and video and a shared virtual environment that allows the instructor and students to manipulate virtual objects in a collaborative manner, thereby reinforcing the learning process. In this paper we report the experience of creating new contents and deploying the tool in a Physics course at Universidad del Quindío. The tool was improved an extended in order to include new functionality and make it easier for development teams to create new content. Teaching for Understanding was used as pedagogical framework for course creation and also as a guide to develop the interviews that were used to capture user's perceptions and to asses the improvements in the learning process. The results showed that the use of the tool had a positive impact on the students' understanding of the topics at hand. © 2007 Springer.Ítem Conociendo los aspectos del entorno educacional del estudiante del 1er, 2do, 3er y 4to grado de primaria que tienen una mayor influencia en su formación lectora, promovida a través de la estrategia del plan lector, a propósito del caso de un colegio particular en el Callao, durante el periodo escolar 2009(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Angulo Zevallos, Amalia Ruth Carmela; Vargas Sáenz, Mario EnriqueThe Reading Program, as a teaching strategy in Peru, promotes an environment where the school principal, teachers, and parents are involved in developing critical thinking and reading comprehension strategies in different contexts. This was created as a result of the low academic indicators that students received in the categories of math and reading comprehension of the world evaluation Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA 2001). In the school, Good Shepherd, students from 1stto 4th grade put this program into practice, which consisted of 20-minute daily readings. The goal would be to develop reading comprehension and critical thinking strategies with support from the school and family members who were all determined to achieve it. While monitoring this program, in a private school environment, it was evident that there was an improvement in knowledge and the outcomes that were suggested to overcome the deficiencies at home. These key points were identified: • The fact that parents and teachers were working together and shared responsibility. • The increase in reading hours at home and school increased the students’ vocabulary. • Students’ improvement in creating questions and responding in a more defined manner. It is important to mention, how this was all achieved: • By identifying roles and developing strategies that created more interaction. • The strategies improved the child’s development in reading comprehension in an effective way. • Establishing a wholesome environment in the classroom, library and extracurricular activities in the school. To achieve these outcomes, it is necessary to have a structural process, set formal alerts, and create supporting activities and indicators that allow a time efficient and effective response to any situation.Ítem Democracy and development: the case of the Republic of Korea(Universidad EAFIT, 2013-01-15) Lee Bravo, Heilen Isabel; Ciro Jaramillo, Jhon Henry de Jesús; Universidad EAFITÍtem Factores que impiden el uso adecuado de los servicios de agua y saneamiento en las comunidades campesinas del ámbito de acción de los proyectos ejecutados por el Fondo Social Las Bambas : estudio de caso de las comunidades Minascucho y Escohorno, región Apurímac, durante el 2015(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Tairo Quispe, Katherin Patricia; Ojeda Ludeña, Jermani; Vargas Sáenz, Mario EnriqueThis research is a description and explanation of causes those do not allow a good use of water and sanitation services in two Quechua rural communities (Minascucho in Cotabambas province and Escohorno in Grau province) in Apurimac region. Both development projects had done by Las Bambas Social Found Association (FOSBAM) using the economic budget of the Scrow Social Found of Las Bambas (it was given by Xtrata Copper Mining Company in 2004). Both projects have similarities in how they were developed and their results. The execution of them was in 2014 and 2015 and the responsible entity decided to combine two components, social and infrastructure, but the second one was the predominant instead the first one. There had done a qualitative study of case in both communities, getting information of people who received the project, not only in the community, but also in the district where has been implemented the service. This was to know details about factors that caused why people are not using adequately and why they cannot manage by themselves the water and sanitation services. There were used different variables to get appropriate data related to problems that the project wanted to solve. For example, these variables allowed to get data about the project focus, health problems of the people around the area, how they use water and sanitation system, cultural factors related to new services, people habit in water consumption and sanitation, user’s involvement and other entities before, during and after the project execution. This research in social management not only describes which factors are determiners about adequately use of water and sanitation services, but also give a proposal of social marketing in order to contribute to change people habits and attitudes in rural communities in Apurimac, and for this purpose different entities from public, private sector and civil society should work together.Ítem El financiamiento de la educación superior en Colombia: Retos y tensiones(Universidad EAFIT, 2010-06-14) Jaramillo, AlbertoThe text addresses the problem of financing higher education in Colombia, with emphasis on the status of state universities, on the assumption that this type of education, but has high social benefits for the development of any country, it is a private good, because it is not a standard training process, analogous to primary and secondary education (which is the same for all students), but meets the interests and needs of each person, that predispose participate in the financing of the program launched. In this sense, the costs of higher education in each individual may be shared by those who benefit from it: the student, his family, society and state.Ítem The idea of justice at the service of development in Amartya Sen(Universidad EAFIT, 2010-12-03) Eslava Gómez, Adolfo; Universidad EAFITÍtem Impulsando la competitividad territorial a través de la aceleración de emprendimientos con impacto rural : análisis de la contribución del programa En-Campo de Fundación Bancolombia en el Suroeste antioqueño(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Castrillón Giraldo, Laura; Betancur Torres, Angie Carolina; Salazar Llinás, Luis FelipeThis research examines the contribution and scope of the En-Campo program by the Bancolombia Foundation in the territorial competitiveness of Southwestern Antioquia. Within the context of Shared Value, local development, and particularly territorial competitiveness, the research focuses on how this program contributes to the strengthening of businesses and its influence on the development of better economic and social conditions for their communities through the generation of Shared Value. The main objective is to determine how the businesses participating in the En-Campo program have contributed to improving territorial competitiveness through their direct impact on the communities related to their business. To achieve this, a qualitative-descriptive approach is adopted, utilizing semi-structured interviews to gather the businesses' perceptions and secondary data analysis. The findings show that the businesses participating in the En-Campo program have positively contributed to enhancing territorial competitiveness by strengthening and implementing strategies that improve productivity, diversification of activities, and living conditions of rural communities across social, environmental, economic, and institutional dimensions. In conclusion, the study highlights the diversity of actions implemented by businesses to improve the sector's conditions and their communities, emphasizing the relevance of the En-Campo program in generating Shared Value and territorial competitiveness in Southwestern Antioquia.Ítem The influence of bureaucracy in the Korean developmental state(Universidad EAFIT, 10-12-19) Guinand Rodríguez, Laura; Arenas Correa, María Camila; Universidad EAFITÍtem Innovation and Growth: A Survey of the Literature and a Case Study for Latin America(Universidad EAFIT, 02/04/2007) García Callejas, Danny; Universidad de AntioquiaÍtem Japan’s foreign policy: from imperial power to regional leader?(Universidad EAFIT, 10-12-19) Gómez, Juan Sebastián; Universidad EAFITÍtem Las figuras de planificación y su impacto en el cumplimiento del objetivo central del Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial (POT) del Distrito Especial de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de Medellín(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Gutiérrez Valderrama, Sebastián; Niño londoño, Alejandro; Betancur Merino, Luis FernandoCurrently, the District of Medellín is experiencing a notable decrease in urban development. This situation is evidenced by the migration from the biggest construction companies to other municipalities in the rest of the Aburrá Valley. This problem has a significant impact on the local economy, considering that the construction sector is one of the most important factors in its dynamization. The lack of new real estate projects in the city of Medellín has as a consequence an affectation that generates substantial unemployment in the sector, thus damaging not only the real estate sector itself but also the entire commercial and financial dynamics that goes in parallel with this important engine of the economy as already pointed out. In Colombia, the State seeks to promote urban development through tools such as “POT,” partial plans, master plans and many other figures that seek to generate urban development alternatives so that the different municipalities provide the builders facilities to intervene in their territory. By virtue of Agreement 048 of 2014 (Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial - POT of Medellín), for example, the District has intended that the city potentiate its growth through not only these figures but others that have sought to weave an amalgam of tools of different kinds in order to achieve this desired goal of organizing and properly planning this important city. However, during the last 10 years, a problem has become evident that since its genesis, with the agreement 62 of 1999 (the first POT of Medellín) was already seen coming. The purpose of this research is to analyze how planification tools impact the economy, growth and, in turn, the private law environment in local urban development. It is important to emphasize that, given the intention to restructure the POT in the 2024-2028 mayoral term, this project seeks to address an analysis as a whole with relevant proposals. This effort not only represents a significant objective for the undergraduate law students and those studying the emphasis in Urban Law at EAFIT University, but also a valuable contribution to the institutions and the city in general.Ítem Lineamientos de gobernanza por el agua en el Sistema de Páramos y Bosques Altoandinos del Noroccidente Medio Antioqueño en la región de Belmira(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Carranza Melesio, Fernanda Berenice; Mejía Dugand, SantiagoThe purpose of this thesis, entitled "Guidelines for water governance in the Paramo and High Andean Forest System of Northwestern Middle Antioquia in the Belmira region", is to design a route for the construction of water governance processes, which responds to the urgency of protecting the paramo ecosystems, on which not only the water supply of many populations depends, but also other forms of life that are part of the natural systems.Ítem Las narrativas del Pensamiento Económico y su presencia en el diseño e implementación de la Planeación Económica en Colombia 1960-2018(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Palacio Orozco, Benhur Alejandro; Ramírez Gómez, Mauricio AndrésÍtem “Los niños y los jóvenes se acercan a la música” : una alternativa de desarrollo y bienestar social para el Municipio de Envigado, en riesgo de desaparecer(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Gómez Ospina, Cristian Leandro; Patiño Zapata, Diana Marcela; Hoyos Salazar, Federico EduardoThis project analyzes whether the mechanism of "Prioritization of the Participatory Budget", as the main financing source of the program "Red de Escuelas de Música de Envigado,” is a generator of social welfare and development for the program´s groups of interest. It is based on the hypothesis that the mechanism does not contribute to the quality of the services provided through the program, nor to the generation of social welfare towards its primary interest groups, nor to its professional team. The analysis carried out is based on exploratory interviews, data obtained from the Administrative Department of Envigado and the “Red de Escuelas de Música of Envigado.” In addition, some quantitative and qualitative research instruments are used, such as semi-structured interviews and surveys, which are applied to the program´s professional team, its students, its families and to other actors of the public and social sectors with interference in the program. The results reflect that the Prioritization of the Participatory Budget is a mechanism that does generate well-being and development for its stakeholders, however, its structure makes the program processes unstable and tend to disappear over time, therefore, the viability of the program depends to a large extent on the community´s will or of the zonal committee’s execution routes. The foregoing, added to the inexistence of an administrative act that provides legal support to the program " Red de Escuelas de Música def Envigado´s " means that the welfare and social development processes are interrupted.Ítem PARTICIP-A(c)CIÓN : experiencias y laboratorios para la promoción de la participación e innovación social(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Londoño Rivera, Ana María; Fadul Barbosa, Alejandra Elvira; Vélez Zapata, SaraBased on the theoretical background, the imagination of social managers about the concept of social innovation and social participation is deficient in the interventions with communities. Through the analysis of social innovation and participation concepts, applied to social companies, this project proposed a practical methodology to boot social innovation and participation. It aims to use dialogue and workshop exercises, to promote information exchange, collective construction of ideas, and community empowerment in decision-making.Ítem Pegantes sociales para el desarrollo local : elementos para la construcción de los territorios de Antioquia(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Quintero Gómez, Alveiro Enrique; Montoya Corrales, Carlos AlbertoConvinced that it is impossible to be a true Agent of Development without theory, and that local and regional development constitutes a reality that now lacks a unified theoretical corpus, the possibility of offering a guide that encourages reflection and practice of the development of a territory such as Antioquia, would seek to find possible foundations in the contributions given by classical and neoclassical theories, as well alternative development theories. Hence the importance given to the review of its main proposals and approaches, which have made it possible to identify analytical categories, concepts, and key propositions, which feed reflection on local and regional development, and to identify the called Social Glue that support the case of the Department of Antioquia as a potentially successful reality in terms of regional development. That review would allow to highlight the prominence acquired by the new theoretical approaches, which are characterized by a new unit of reference on development, territories, its integral conception, the consultation of various dimensions of development: social, environmental, institutional and human, while it became involved with outstanding problems associated with the lack of development: unsatisfied needs, inequalities, high levels of unemployment, poverty and hunger, aspects that allowed adopting the concept of endogenous development as an analytical reference to address the problem territorial development. Based on the use of its own analytical categories, concepts, propositions and proposals for the treatment of local and regional realities, the research accommodates in the endogenous territorial development, conceptual and theoretical support for the development proposal based on Social Glue. The context for introducing progress in Colombia’s case was the revision of the 1991 Political Constitution, which provides significant institutional development and has become a determining factor in political, economic, and social transformation processes that revitalize the territories. Likewise, we were able to make a balance of the country in the last 30 years. These advances were to materialize in strategic planning efforts in the region, which provides us with three outstanding experiences: PLANEA, the Subregional Strategic Plans and the Special Districts, in which the five triggers for development in the territory are evidenced, described in the final part of the text, and from which the fundamental elements -Social Glue- of the development of Antioquia and its subregions would be extracted. The Social Glue was approached from the conceptual definition, their understanding and relevance, the level of empowerment and internalization in the planning experiences and the way in which they support the advances of transformation of the territories of Antioquia. With this we hope to contribute to the reflections on territorial development, offering lines of action the different development actors, public and private, can channel their efforts and allow the unveiling of new contents that strengthen the planning processes and the design of public policies in favor of a comprehensive development of the department.
