This paper contributes to this literature by providing empirical evidence on the relation be- tween Latin American countries and China by creating a typology of countries based on different key aspects such as trade, commodity dependence, debt, environment, and institutionalism in four years over time (2005, 2010, 2015, and 2018). The dependence of countries on financing from China is taken into account, given the limited access to international markets as well as how aspects of government corruption and stability impact such dynamics. The contrast between countries and indicators shows that the relation between China and Latin America involves different aspects beyond bilateral trade.Ítem Estudio de prefactibilidad para la creación de empresa de ropa deportiva, comercializada en Estados Unidos y producida en China(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Fernández Somoza, Daniela; Gómez Salazar, Elkin ArcesioThis prefeasibility study evaluates the viability of establishing a sportswear company by leveraging the growth of the U.S. market and the production advantages in China. In a context where the global sports fashion industry is rapidly expanding, the study highlights the increasing demand for high-quality and innovative design products, especially in the women's segment. The research employs a quantitative approach and follows the UNIDO methodology to conduct sectoral, market, technical, organizational, legal, risk, and financial analyses. The literature indicates that the United States offers a robust market with sustained demand, while China provides competitive production costs, advanced infrastructure, and an efficient supply chain. Additionally, the cultural and commercial synergies between the two countries, which facilitate the production and marketing of the products, are considered. The relevance of exploring global opportunities, the academic importance of integrating multidisciplinary knowledge, and the practical applicability of guiding future ventures in the sports fashion industry motivated master’s in project management student, Daniela Fernández Somoza, to develop this study. The specific objectives include analyzing the sector, studying the market, developing a technical and financial plan, and assessing the project's risks.Ítem Geopolitics In The Triple Border Of Kashmir: Conflicts Between China, Pakistan, And India(Universidad EAFIT, 2021-07-30) Solórzano Tello, Octavio Alonso; Portador García, Teresa de Jesús; Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP/México); Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (México)The article addresses, from a historical and geopolitical perspective, the past and current conflicts between China, Pakistan, and India in the triple border of Kashmir; calling attention to its particularity as a geostrategic area. It analyzes the military confrontations and disagreements between China and India; developing an interpretative historical framework that provides elements to understand the relevance of the conflicts in the region. It examines in detail the dispute between India and Pakistan, as part of the British legacy, where ethnic differences are highlighted as a key factor to understand the depth of the problem. It analyzes how the conflicts in Kashmir can be an element that leads the mechanism of the BRICS and the New Silk Road to a possible failure. The increase in conflicts would further involve Russia, the United States, Japan, Australia, Israel, among others.Ítem Intermediate cities: a Mexico-China comparison(Universidad EAFIT, 10-12-19) Neme, Omar; Valderrama, Ana Lilia; Briseño, José Israel; Instituto Politécnico NacionalÍtem Internationalization and firm performance in Chindia countries: a meta-analytic review(Universidad EAFIT, 2016-09-08) Schulze, Linda; Douesnel, Aurélien; Grégoire, OliviaÍtem Meritocracy: China's form of democracy(Universidad EAFIT, 2021-12-17) Jiménez Arcila, Juliana; Universidad EAFITThis article illustrates China’s meritocracy in light of political, social and cultural differences accounting both for Western and Eastern standards thought to define political systems and governmental regimes. It also shows the factors that make meritocracy a potential “democracy” with Chinese characteristics, explaining the elements of meritocracy throughout history together with the roots of the system in the country. In the process, the article defines both meritocracy and democracy and presents certain factors that may suggest that meritocracy can -for now- be acknowledged as a democracy even when it does not fully agree with Western standards. Throughout academia it is understood that there is no single form of democracy and that each country adapts the system to its own characteristics; making it possible that Chinese meritocracy -with the cultural shifts made- can be better comprehended and accepted as one of these primary forms of democracy.Ítem The Network-Max-P-Regions model(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2017-05-04) She, B.; Duque, J.C.; Ye, X.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Economía y Finanzas; Research in Spatial Economics (RISE)This paper introduces a new p-regions model called the Network-Max-P-Regions (NMPR) model. The NMPR is a regionalization model that aims to aggregate n areas into the maximum number of regions (max-p) that satisfy a threshold constraint and to minimize the heterogeneity while taking into account the influence of a street network. The exact formulation of the NMPR is presented, and a heuristic solution is proposed to effectively compute the near-optimized partitions in several simulation datasets and a case study in Wuhan, China. © 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.Ítem Pre-colonial commercial networks in Southeast Asia(Universidad EAFIT, 2014-07-11) Uribe Jaramillo, María Teresa; El Colegio de MéxicoÍtem Senkaku or Diaoyu Islands: the geopolitical interests of two states in tension(Universidad EAFIT, 2013-01-15) Cardona Ruiz, Daniel Elifonso; Universidad EAFITÍtem Soft Power and New Chinese Diplomacy in the 21st Century with Countries of the Global South: The Latin American Case(Universidad EAFIT, 2019-07-02) Portador García, Dra. Departamento de Economía y Finanzas; Research in Spatial Economics (RISE)This paper introduces an exploratory space-time analysis tool for determining the two components of a spatial redistribution process: (i) the shock, which is the moment that triggers a spatial redistribution process; for example, a new policy, a war, an earthquake, etc.; and (ii) the duration of the regime fade, which is the time between the shock and the moment in which a new regime emerges as a better representation of the spatial distribution of the attribute. Two examples are provided: the first uses China's provincial per capitaGDP between 1978 and 2008, and the second uses state level housing price and unemployment rate data for the US between 2002 and 2012. © 2015 The Author(s). Production volumes have increased at an accelerated rhythm within the last 20 years. The pressure for costs’ reduction and the desire of the consumers to acquire every time more clothing has led to the enterprises to engage in stained pro-duction processes. Exploitation of the employees and environmental pollution are involved in their practices. This essay aims to expose labor conditions that this industrial sector offers in the Asian continent, mainly in China and India. It concludes that workers’ abuse is intrinsically present in the productive stage of the fashion supply chain.Ítem Trials and Tribulations at Chiyoda: A short overview of Japan’s current situation in the International arena(Universidad EAFIT, 2019-07-02) Jaramillo Jaramillo, Santiago; Universidad EAFITÍtem Unicorns aren't a fairytale, China is their Valley(Universidad EAFIT, 2019-02-28) Marrugo-Salas, Lina; Pérez-Morón, James Manuel; Tordecilla-Acevedo, Verónica; Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar
