This research manages to evidence gender inequality when performing unpaid domestic care tasks and its impact on the Colombian labor market, in addition to proving that this situation not only limits female labor participation, but also has an impact on its efficiency and performance. Based on the National Time Use Survey 2017-2018 and implementing a linear probability model, it is found that performing this type of unpaid tasks has a negative impact on the probability of obtaining a job. In addition, it confirms the double workday fulfilled by those women who manage to get employed and who additionally work longer hours having a high proportion of time use for care economy work.

Cámaras IP: monitoreo virtual de proyectos de construcción
(Universidad EAFIT, 2014) Acevedo Pino, Camilo Enrique; Botero Botero, Luis Fernando

Can IPR Affect MNE’s Entry Modes? The Chilean Case
(Universidad EAFIT, 2017-10-30) Canavire-Bacarreza, Gustavo; Castro Peñarrieta, Luis; gcanavir@eafit.edu.co
This paper analyzes the effect of stronger Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on the entry modes chosen by MNEs in the Chilean market. MNEs can choose between exporting, introducing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and licensing to a domestic firm in Chile. We use plant-level data for the 2001–2007 and exploite the exogenous reform of IPR in Chile in 2005 to examine the effect of the change in IPR on the overall foreign presence in Chile, controlling for the activities of industries where high levels of technology transfer and imitation are important factors. The main results show that stronger IPR change the mode of entry chosen by MNEs. In this case, FDI is replaced by licensing. This is explained by Chile’s high absorptive capacity during this period. Moreover, we test whether this effect differs across high-tech and low-tech industries and conclude that the displacement of FDI is less severe in high-tech industries.

Can Licensing Induce Productivity? Exploring the IPR Effect
(Universidad EAFIT, 2017-10-30) Castro Peñarrieta, Luis; Canavire-Bacarreza, Gustavo; gcanavir@eafit.edu.co
Licensing is one of the main channels for technology transfer from foreignowned multinational enterprises (MNEs) to domestic plants. This transfer occurs within industries and across industries, which results in technology spillovers that can affect both intra- and inter-industry productivity. We propose a theoretical model that predicts that this effect can be enhanced by the implementation of stronger intelectual property rights (IPR). Using Chilean plant-level data for the 2001–2007 period and exogenous variation from a reform in 2005, we test our theoretical predictions and find positive inter-industry effects, which result in higher productivity for domestic plants. However, there are negative spillovers when licensing is implemented within the same industry. We also test for the effect of stronger IPR and find that stronger IPR reduces intra-sector spillovers but increases inter-industry spillovers. Moreover, the IPR effect is stronger on firms that are, on average, smaller and have low productivity. Our results are robust not only to a series of definitions of IPR, licensing and productivity but also to a set of different specifications.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) González Pérez, Eliana Marcela; Betancur Hurtado, Carlos Mario
Organizations are constantly looking to improve productivity and efficiency levels within their processes, but in order to achieve this goal, it is key to keep high motivation among employees. One of the new strategies implemented by managers today who seek to improve quality of life and, at the same time, achieve optimal results with their employees, is Emotional Compensation. Theoretically, it means achieving employee happiness and satisfaction through benefits that can be intrinsic and extrinsic. As a result, organizations achieve more committed and more conscientious individuals. That is, it is also possible to align the personal, professional and family objectives of the employees with those of the organization. The purpose of this research is to identify the effect of Emotional Compensation on work motivation at the Private Committee for Childhood Assistance Corporation (Corporación Comité Privado de Asistencia a la Niñez) - PAN, from the employees’ perception of the organization, in order to submit a proposal for Emotional Compensation that allows the organization to reduce absenteeism, staff turnover and foster employees awareness and care for PAN.
This study analyzes the financial and technical feasibility for the Fábrica de Licores y Alcoholes de Antioquia (FLA) to transition from a shared technological infrastructure with the Government of Antioquia to an independent technological infrastructure. Through an exhaustive financial analysis and technical evaluation of both scenarios, it was identified that maintaining the shared infrastructure (Scenario 1) is financially more viable, with lower operational costs and greater short-term profitability. However, the independent infrastructure (Scenario 2) offers significant technical advantages that can improve efficiency, productivity, and organizational well-being, aligning the Fábrica de Licores y Alcoholes de Antioquia (FLA) with the demands of Industry 4.0. This study concludes that a strategic transition toward technological independence could enhance the competitiveness of the FLA as a state-owned industrial and commercial company.
