(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Ríos Giraldo, Ricardo Mauricio; Montoya Hernández, Ángela María; Vanegas Chinchilla, Nórida Constanza; Universidad EAFIT
Value chain analysis for any type of company usually provides relevant information for identifying key activities that add value to its customers and strategy, from production to sales management, identifying the needs for improving operational capacity, by identifying inefficiencies and waste in each of the processes, since this could compromise the generation of value planned or expected by the customer. Hence, this contributes significantly to identifying opportunities to reduce operating costs. On the other hand, it also strengthens the relationship with suppliers and customers and other interested parties. In fact, defining each of these elements also allows management to evaluate how value is generated through sustainable and socially responsible management in each organizational interaction, checking the ecological, economic, aesthetic value of the region's landscape and cultural value within the radius of its business. The following study presents the results of the evaluation applied to the current state of maturity in the key elements of the value chain of the Hass avocado exploitation process in the Municipality of Santa Fe de Antioquia, for each of its primary stages; Cultivation and production, harvest, packaging, classification, transportation, distribution, marketing, sale and consumption and use of the fruit, aimed at the production of derived products. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies are used that, combined with the Michel Porter model, identify competitive advantages and areas of opportunity for the improvement of the fundamental purpose of hundreds of families in the municipality, who with the support of the Municipal Administration, saw in the production of the Hass avocado a form of livelihood and family entrepreneurship.

Estudio de prefactibilidad de una planta pulverizadora de leche en Tocancipá, Cundinamarca, Colombia
(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Arenas Gómez , Laura; Salazar Gómez, Francisco Javier
This study was conducted to determine the pre-feasibility of spraying cow's milk in a processing plant located in the Sabana de Bogotá, in the municipality of Tocancipá, Cundinamarca, Colombia; to be marketed to the (ICBF) Colombian Institute of Family Welfare for the formulation of Bienestarina, food for children, adolescents and seniors. The interest in this project is due to several reasons, among which is the need of cow's milk producers in the Sabana de Bogotá to transform the raw material and generate more profits by diversifying the business from production to transformation; the other reason is the need to contribute to the development of the country's economy and above all to the development of early childhood and its nutrition to improve its physical and intellectual development, understanding that they are the future of this society and the importance of nutrition in their first years of life and how this will impact their adulthood. Knowing the traceability of raw milk produced on farms, it is possible to determine the quality of the product not only by its compositional qualities but by being sustainable productions, friendly to the environment and always prioritizing the well-being of the animals used for this practice and their operators. Thus, a powdered milk product is offered with all the qualities to complement the other ingredients of Bienestarina and provide children, adolescents and older adults with optimal and complete nutrition for their nutritional needs depending on the stage they are in. To determine the factors that must be taken into account when developing the project, several studies were made such as: environment, sector, market, technical, administrative, organizational, legal and financial. It is important to educate the population, the people around us, children, about the importance of nutrition, about animal products and dairy derivatives and their importance in human nutrition.

Estudio de prefactibilidad para la producción y comercialización de terneros con genética mejorada mediante inseminación artificial
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Franco Ramírez, Santiago; Gómez Salazar, Elkin Arcesio
The proposed study focuses on evaluating the feasibility of implementing artificial insemination on a beef cattle farm located in Colombia. The main objective is to determine whether this technology can significantly increase the farm's profitability. To conduct this analysis, a structured pre-feasibility approach will be implemented to assess the project's market, technical, economic, legal, sectoral, organizational, and environmental viability. The research will include a detailed analysis of the factors to consider for artificial insemination in a cattle herd for its successful implementation on a farm in Colombia. The costs associated with implementing this technology will also be evaluated, including semen acquisition, personnel hiring, and the necessary equipment. A key aspect of the study will be defining the costs and benefits of artificial insemination and how external factors that may influence the project's viability, such as government policies, input prices, and beef demand, will be considered. A detailed implementation plan will also be developed, including a schedule of activities, a budget, and an analysis of potential risks. The results of this study will allow for an informed decision on the appropriateness of adopting artificial insemination as a strategy to improve the productivity and profitability of the livestock farm.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Mejía Castillo, José Leonardo; Álvares Mesa, Catalina
This study focuses on the necessity for transformation within the Colombian agricultural ecosystem, encompassing financing, production, and commercialization. Within this context, digital social innovation emerges as a catalyst for addressing the deeply rooted challenges in the sector. The convergence of social innovation, seeking creative and efficient solutions to social problems, with digital technologies, enabling broad-scale connection and collaboration, presents a promising opportunity to enhance the resilience of agriculture against climate and inequality challenges. Aligned with this vision, the research advocates for a holistic approach to the agricultural issues in Colombia. Beyond fragmented solutions, it proposes a systematic and sustainable approach recognizing the transformative potential of digital social innovation. This approach not only aims to address immediate issues but also to foster productivity and competitiveness in the sector equitably and sustainably, thereby generating a positive impact on society as a whole. In its analysis, the thesis underscores the fundamental role played by digital technologies in creating an enabling environment for social innovation within Colombian agriculture. The connectivity and collaboration facilitated by these tools allow for the development of adaptive and context-specific solutions designed to address the specific needs of farmers and rural communities. Unveiling Genetic Diversity : Construction and Analysis of the Moniliophthora roreri Pangenome”
(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Gallego-Rendón, Isabella; Riaño-Pachón, Diego Mauricio
The cacao pathogen Moniliophthora roreri poses a significant threat to global cacao production. This is due to its distinct dispersal ability, its propensity to infect a wide range of cacao cultivars, its adaptability to different ecological niches, and its high pathogenicity. To develop effective control strategies, a deeper understanding of its genetic diversity and functional capabilities is critical. The objective of this study was to perform a pangenomic analysis of 22 M. roreri genomes to gain insights into its genetic composition and potential functional properties.

Valoración de opciones para el mercado agropecuario colombiano, el modelo de Heston-Nandi como alternativa
(Universidad EAFIT, 2007) Causil García, Catalina; Cárcamo Cárcamo, Ulises
There are random factors in the process leading to commodities’ price formation. Such factors are manifest in the behavior of volatility. Volatility is a source of uncertainty for any market. Options on commodities are a valuable instrument to diminish risk associated with volatility. The Heston-Nandi model seems to be helpful in the valuation of derivatives on agricultural commodities. In this project the model’s properties are explored and an algorithm to estimate the associated parameters is developed. For a completely useful development of this model the actual trading of the derivatives is needed.
