Ítem Advanced fuzzy-logic-based context-driven control for HVAC management systems in buildings(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020-01-01) Morales Escobar L.; Aguilar J.; Garces-Jimenez A.; Gutierrez De Mesa J.A.; Gomez-Pulido J.M.; Morales Escobar L.; Aguilar J.; Garces-Jimenez A.; Gutierrez De Mesa J.A.; Gomez-Pulido J.M.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesControl in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) systems of buildings is not trivial, and its design is considered challenging due to the complexity in the analysis of the dynamics of its nonlinear characteristics for the identification of its mathematical model. HVAC systems are complex since they consist of several elements, such as heat pumps, chillers, valves, heating/cooling coils, boilers, air-handling units, fans, liquid/air distribution systems, and thermal storage systems. This article proposes the application of LAMDA (learning algorithm for multivariable data analysis) for advanced control in HVAC systems for buildings. LAMDA addresses the control problem using a fuzzy classification approach without requiring a mathematical model of the plant/system. The method determines the degree of adequacy of a system for every class and subsequently determines its similarity degree, and it is used to identify the functional state or class of the system. Then, based on a novel inference method that has been added to LAMDA, a control action is computed that brings the system to a zero-error state. The LAMDA controller performance is analyzed via evaluation on a regulation problem of an HVAC system of a building, and it is compared with other similar approaches. According to the results, our method performs impressively in these systems, thereby leading to a trustable model for the implementation of improved building management systems. The LAMDA control performs very well for disturbances by proposing control actions that are not abrupt, and it outperforms the compared approaches. © 2013 IEEE.Ítem The Aesthetic Pleasure in Design Scale for Spanish Speaking Countries: A Method for the Cross-Cultural Implementation and Adaptation of Psychometric Scales(SPRINGER, 2019-01-01) Garrido-Possauner L.M.; Maya J.One of the main issues in the field of product aesthetics is the lack of consistency in the instruments and terms being used to assess it. Several scales have been used but with restricted validity and reliability; notwithstanding, the APID (Aesthetic Pleasure In Design) scale developed in English, as part of the UMA (Unified Model of Aesthetics) project, lacks these limitations. Our research, being in a Spanish speaking country, required the scale to be in Spanish to be comprised and applied to domestic respondents. The adaptation of psychometric instruments with conceptual and linguistic challenging constructs, often is difficult, as the items used to assess the construct do not always have a direct translation. Also, it is possible for the adapted version to require different items that were not considered in the original instrument in order to preserve the content’s equivalence according to the target culture. A qualitative-quantitative mixed approach is proposed in order to overcome these issues. The resulting instrument has been statistically tested, proving to be both valid and reliable for the measurement of aesthetic pleasure in design. The final scale consists of five items: bonito, hermoso, agradable, llamativo and me gusta. This paper aims to improve the understanding of how aesthetic pleasure is perceived and therefore expressed by the local respondents gaining insight into how this construct is mentally represented and categorized by the respondents. It also aims to illustrate how psychometric scales based on respondents’ vocabulary have a great potential as usability assessment instruments. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Ítem Análisis de la responsabilidad civil en caso de una falla funcional en un vehículo operado con inteligencia artificial que resulte en daños a terceros(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Tamayo Restrepo, Alejandro; Gil Berrio, Manuela; Villa García, Luis FelipeThis study will examine the implication of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with autonomous vehicles and its legal scopes, focusing on civil liability for functional failures. In addition, it will investigate whether the Colombian regulatory framework is prepared to address potential accidents caused by AI. For this purpose, two main areas will be explored: (i) the functioning of AI and (ii) the legal framework of tort liability in Colombia. Subsequently, the characteristics of AI and its dependence on human instructions will be analyzed to, finally, examine the theory of civil liability proposed by different authors and compare them with the legal perspective of foreign legal systems. This research seeks to understand and address the legal challenges of AI in autonomous vehicles, with the aim of contributing to the development of a fair and equitable legal framework in Colombia.Ítem Análisis de la tendencia de la solución de una interacción con un Chatbot de atención al cliente, basado en análisis de sentimiento y otras variables(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Flórez Salazar, Luz Stella; Montoya Múnera, Edwin NelsonA chatbot is a program created with artificial intelligence. In the context of customer service, can establish conversations with customers and they are trained to resolve their queries, problems and complaints. A chatbot’s skill to identify when a customer is not meeting their request represents a challenge for companies that currently use this technology. One of the strategies to avoid quitting the conversation for this reason, is to escalate or transfer the conversation to a human agent. Therefore, it is essential to detect when it is time to carry out this escalation. This project evaluates different Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, rule-based labeling algorithms, classical supervised machine learning models and a simple neural network for classification, applied to interactions between a customer service chatbot and a user, in order to find a mechanism for automatic labeling of the data and to build a model that can be used to make the decision on whether the customer should continue interacting with the chatbot or if he should be transferred to a conversation with a human agent. The labeling mechanism could also be used to classify historical data, to later train a model. Different models and techniques are evaluated and those with the best performance in detecting the conversations that should escalate to a human agent are presented.Ítem Aproximación del uso de redes neuronales en mantenimiento(Universidad EAFIT, 2013) Orozco Álvarez, David; Mora Gutiérrez, Luis AlbertoÍtem Coevolución y cocreación : una mirada ecológica de la inteligencia híbrida en la fase de preproducción de los medios audiovisuales(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Castro Hurtado, José Javier; Amaya Torrenegra, Roque Andrés; Serna Agudelo , Juan Guillermo; Villa Montoya, María IsabelThis article examines the emerging relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) in the preproduction phase of the audiovisual media industry. In this endeavor, adopting an interdisciplinary perspective grounded in media ecology theory and actor–network theory (ANT), two contrasting scenarios of this interaction are explored. On the one hand, mutualism, where humans and artificial species collaborate to improve the efficiency and quality of the creative process, is presented through the analysis of ScriptBook and Cinelytic, two of the most important used AI tools in the film industry. In addition, the dystopian threat is raised, where AI could replace human scriptwriters in the audiovisual media ecosystem, as illustrated by the strike of the Hollywood producers’ and screenwriters’ unions in 2023. These scenarios raise questions about the future of the industry and the coevolution between humans and AI through the concept of mutation. Emphasis is placed on the need to adapt to these transformations, recognizing the fundamental role of researchers and society in monitoring the relationship between humans and AI to understand its potential for co-creation and coevolution. Finally, the importance of agile adaptation to a constantly changing media ecosystem is underscored as an essential task to fully leverage the potential of hybrid intelligence and ensure the survival of the human species in this new technological paradigm.Ítem Combining interactive and automatic reasoning in first order theories of functional programs(SPRINGER, 2012-01-01) Bove, A.; Dybjer, P.; Sicard-Ramírez, A.; Bove, A.; Dybjer, P.; Sicard-Ramírez, A.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ciencias; Lógica y ComputaciónWe propose a new approach to the computer-assisted verification of functional programs. We work in first order theories of functional programs which are obtained by extending Aczel's first order theory of combinatory formal arithmetic with positive inductive and coinductive predicates. Rather than building a special purpose system we implement our theories in Agda, a proof assistant for dependent type theory which can be used as a generic theorem prover. Agda provides support for interactive reasoning by encoding first order theories using the formulae-as-types principle. Further support is provided by off-the-shelf automatic theorem provers for first order logic which can be called by a program which translates Agda representations of first order formulae into the TPTP language understood by the provers. We show some examples where we combine interactive and automatic reasoning, covering both proof by induction and coinduction. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.Ítem Comparación entre el método tradicional y algunos basados en inteligencia artificial para el estudio del riesgo crediticio en instituciones financieras colombianas(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Arango Correa, Diana Marcela; Colmenares Colmenares, Laura Juliana; Rave Contreras, Isabel Cristina; Martínez Negrete, Milton AlfonsoArtificial intelligence models are an open problem for application in various fields of science and search of variable relationships especially when the distribution of events doesn’t depend on a linear function; through this work we want to compare the traditional method most used for credit behavior monitoring with advanced models of artificial intelligence -- The guides that exist in Colombia for management of credit risk are given by the Financial Superintendence of Colombia, international standards such as Basel II, Basel III and Solvency are based on the logistic regression and the discriminant analysis, models used by financial institutions in Colombia to measure credit behavior, thus we carried out an investigation to explore the utility of new models -- This paper addresses one of the traditional methods used in financial institutions, that is, logistic regression, and compares it with alternative methods such as neural networks and random forests -- From the literature review and using a database provided by a banking entity, the dependent variables and the response variable are selected, the logistic regression models, random forests and neural networks are calibrated in the Microsoft Azure Machine Learning application and they are compared to each other with indicators of precision and accuracy such as ROC (from receiver operating characteristic) curve and confusion matrix, obtaining for the models of artificial intelligence, results as good as the traditional one; so they can be used by the financial sector as alternate and / or complementary methods in the analysis of credit riskÍtem Comparison on the estimation of the biomass of a batch bioreactor through fuzzy systems, neural networks and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(2011-01-01) Muñoz, A.A.G.; Quintero, O.L.; Muñoz, A.A.G.; Quintero, O.L.; Universidad EAFIT. This plataforms attract users attention by costumization of content, wich is constructed from the knowledge extracted in the data mining process thanks to the personal data that every user yields with the use of the service. The purpose of personalization is the augmentation of time spent online thus, the amount of personal data given. This data is the fundamental asset to digital economy. Due to the wide knowledge derived from data mining and the profound social incertion that social media has, users get trapped onto a asimetric power relationship with the companies that provide this service wich directly impacts rights such as privacy. Even though privacy has international and national regulations, its guideline is not appropiate to face the current challenges.Ítem Construction of a repertoire of analog form-finding techniques as a basis for computational morphological exploration in design and architecture(SPRINGER, 2018-01-01) Patiño E.; Maya J.The article describes the process of constructing a repertoire of analog form-finding techniques, which can be used in evolutionary computation to (i) compare the techniques among them and select the most suitable for a project, (ii) to explore forms or shapes in an analog and/or manual way, (iii) as a basis for the development of algorithms in specialized software, (iv) or to understand the physical processes and mathematical procedures of the techniques. To our knowledge no one has built a repertoire of this nature, since all the techniques are in sources of diverse disciplines. Methodologically, the construction process was based on a systematic review of the literature, allowing us to identify 33 techniques where the principles of bio-inspiration and self-organization are evident, characteristics both of form-finding strategies. As a result, we present the repertoire structure, composed of five groups of techniques sharing similar physical processes: inflate, group, de-construct, stress, solidify and fold. Subsequently, the repertoire’s conceptual, mathematical, and graphical analysis categories are presented. Finally, conclusions of potential applications and research trends of the subject are presented. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.Ítem El derecho al control humano en la inteligencia artificial : una propuesta de regulación del control humano como un nuevo derecho en el ordenamiento jurídico colombiano(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Sánchez Vásquez, Carolina; Díaz Diez, Cristian AndrésArtificial intelligence is one of the greatest technological developments of the 21st century and it has the ability to have a positive, but also negative, impact on human life. In this way, the use of artificial intelligence systems can result in the violation of fundamental rights such as equality, privacy, correct process and freedom of expression. In this scenario, the Law needs to respond to the new challenges that arise and offer avant-garde legal responses. One of them is the recognition of human control as a new right to guarantee oversight in the design and development of these systems in order to avoid affecting other existing rights.Ítem Derecho de autor: obras generadas y asistidas por inteligencia artificial(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Gómez Escorcia, Angélica Paola; Correa Jiménez, María del Mar; Roldán Gaviria, Ricardo León de la CruzThis research paper focuses on the debate on the ownership of works generated and assisted by artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on literary, musical and image works. This controversy arises because artificial intelligence has reached a significant level of development and autonomy, enabling the creation of artistic and literary content based on instructions provided by users. However, this new reality poses legal challenges and questions the scope of copyright law. For this reason, the main purpose of this research is to determine whether such creations are protected by copyright. It also seeks to establish who should be recognized as the owner of these rights. For this purpose, different international jurisprudential positions that have established that works assisted by artificial intelligence are susceptible of being protected by copyright were examined.
