Departamento de Humanidades; El Método Analítico y sus Aplicaciones en las Ciencias Sociales y Humanas (EAFIT – Ude A)Objective: To examine the psychometric properties of the spanish version of the Mini-MAC in a Colombian cancer sample. Methods: one hundred and twentysix cancer patients completed the adapted Mini-MAC, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Detection of Emotional Distress Scale (DED). Descriptive, correlational and internal consistency statistics were obtained. An Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and a Path Analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were performed. Results: A 4-factor solution was derived: Helplessness/Hopelessness (HH), Anxious Preoccupation (AP), Cognitive Avoidance (CA) and Fighting Spirit (FS). PCA values indicated a factor solution explaining 58.9% of the variance. Significant correlations were found between HH and AP, and HH and FS. CA significantly correlated with AP and FS. Significant correlations between Mini-MAC, HADS and DED were found. Cronbach´s Alpha was superior to.6 in all cases. SEM analysis indicated that HH and AP have a positive effect on anxiety and a negative one on the emotional state, explaining 49% of the variance. CA had a negative effect on the emotional state. Altogether, HH, AP y CA explained 39% of the variance on emotional state. Conclusion: The Colombian version of the Mini-MAC is valid and reliable. It constitutes an adequate tool for assessment of coping in cancer. © 2015, Fundacion para el Avance de la Psicologia. Amongst those strategies, the educational institutions were shut down and citizens were confined in their homes. At the same time, they were informed with information about the virus, how it spread, etc... That situation generated anxiety in the general population and specifically in teachers and administrative colleagues in kindergartens. This exploratory study, which is non experimental and transversal-quantitative, measured the anxiety levels of colleagues of a Kindergarten in Medellín, Colombia in July 2020, when they were still confined, working from home. The study found that 52% of the colleagues of that Kindergarten had minimal anxiety, 29% a moderate level and 18% mild anxiety.Publicación Ansiedad en los equipos de proyectos de una multilatina del sector financiero : estrategias de detección, prevención y moderación(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Arango Duque, María Isabel; Lopez Gallego, Francisco DaríoIn the midst of a changing context from the financial, technological and social fronts, a pool of projects is required to transform organizations in an agile and timely manner, requiring leaders to properly manage the emotions of the people who are in their teams, to contribute to personal-professional balance and quality of life. This research work defined what are the most frequent causes that generate behaviors associated with anxiety in the members of the project teams of a multilatina of the financial sector, this through a mixed study (qualitative and quantitative), with a descriptive and cross-sectional, approach which mixed the information obtained from interviews with project leaders with a characterization of the team members. The main results were: anxiety is higher in projects than in a day-to-day area; leaders are afraid to talk about anxiety, however, there is a lot of interest in learning. The unanimous and quintessential conclusion is that by reducing anxiety in work teams, performance will be maximized. A total of 9 participants are divided into three groups according to the conditions of the presence or absence of a particular odor, Group 1 is exposed to the same odor at two times, Group 2 is exposed to a different odor at each time, and Group 3 is not exposed to any particular odor (control). The STAI instrument is used to measure anxiety-state levels in a pretest-posttest model and performance is assessed with a linguistic task. The findings are similar to those of the study by Herz et al. (2004), where Group 1 presents an increase in anxiety at Moment 2 compared to Moment 1 and the time spent together with the correct answers is lower compared to the other groups; however, the behavior of Group 2 is similar to Group 1, so it is pertinent to carry out a similar study in the future with a larger sample to obtain representative results and more information on this phenomenon.Publicación El miedo escénico en la interpretación musical en clarinetistas de Medellín(Universidad EAFIT, 2013) Pinzón Salamanca, Albeiro Alexander; Vinasco Guzmán, Javier AsdrúbalPublicación Estudio de prefactibilidad para el desarrollo de un centro de bienestar con enfoque en experiencias sensoriales para la salud integral mediante la metodología ONUDI(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Estrada Osorno, Carolina; Restrepo Retrepo, Laura Isabel; Guerrero Latorre, Jorge ArleyThis tesis presents a prefeasibility study for the creation of a wellness center focused on sensory experiences, aimed at strengthening overall health and preventing or reducing disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress. The research applies the UNIDO methodology, which systematically evaluates the technical, financial, legal, environmental, and market aspects of the project. The proposal is based on Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy (MBAT), an approach that integrates mindfulness techniques meditation, yoga, conscious breathing with artistic and sensory activities, such as clay modeling, mandalas, chromotherapy, and aromatherapy. The goal is to activate all five senses to promote emotional self regulation and balance between body and mind. The concept arises in response to the global increase in mental health problems, intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. In Colombia, more than 60% of the population has experienced some issue in this area, with limited access to early care. This highlights the need for preventive and complementary approaches to traditional treatments. The study includes sector and environmental analysis, market research, technical design, regulatory review, financial evaluation, and risk analysis. A mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) is adopted, using surveys and tools such as PESTEL and Porter’s Five Forces. The results of the sector analysis show low direct competition and limited threat from new entrants, although with high bargaining power on the part of clients. The PESTEL analysis reveals a favorable political and legal framework, sustained growth in the wellness sector, increasing social awareness of mental health, technological opportunities, and a marked trend toward environmental sustainability. Market research in Medellín, focused on middle and high-income segments, confirms interest and willingness to pay for comprehensive wellness services. The technical study defines location, space distribution, supplies, and staff profiles; the administrative component proposes an efficient organizational structure; and the legal analysis establishes the licensing, tax, and environmental requirements necessary for operation. From a financial standpoint, the study calculates initial investment, capital structure, revenue projections, and operating costs, resulting in positive profitability indicators. The risk analysis identifies threats in operational, legal, commercial, and financial areas, proposing mitigation strategies to ensure sustainability. In summary, the study demonstrates that conducting a full feasibility assessment is viable, as all evaluated aspects show positive outcomes and the project has strong potential for market differentiation. Its innovative therapeutic approach, backed by scientific evidence, positions it as an effective and sustainable alternative to promote mental health and overall well-being in the Colombian context.Publicación Gamers : un estudio exploratorio sobre el estrés y los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Rizo Acosta, José Henrique; Cuartas Arias, Jorge MauricioDifferent studies have suggested marked problems of anxiety and depression in the population that frequently use video games, or are part of the "Gamer" culture. population that frequently uses video games, or that are part of the "Gamer" culture. The objective of this study is to identify if there is a relationship between the use of video games, anxiety and depression. anxiety and depression. This research used an online self-report methodology on 60 subjects from a community of gamers, in which scales of stress, anxiety, depression and personality traits were evaluated, depression and personality traits were assessed. The results show that a part of the gaming community suffers from a high level of stress, anxiety, depression and personality traits. Gamers suffer from mild to high levels of stress, anxiety and depression. The level of stress results showed that most of the time this group of people spend most of their time stressed. stressed. This research was able to conclude that there is a relationship between the level of stress with symptoms of anxiety and depression with people who belong to the Gamer community. So it would be crucial an intervention to this group of people to give them the knowledge about stress management and how to confront the symptoms of anxiety and depression.Publicación La ansiedad estado–rasgo y su incidencia en el desempeño musical(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Rico Sierra, Alejandra; N/AThis is a quantitative research which pretended stablish the correlation between state- trait anxiety and musical performance -- For this goal, in first time, it used the STAI test (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) by Spielberg, C.D was applied; Gorsuch, R.L & Lushene, R.E, which measures anxiety (trait-state) -- Likewise, it was necessary create an instrument to measure musical performance which was based on five categories: tuning, technique, interpretation, posture and general performance -- Both measurements were carried out in a group of fourteen (14) non-professional students from a music academy in the city of Medellin who performed at a year-end concert -- Despite being a small sample, the results were not conclusive, it could be observed that there is no significant correlation between state-trait anxiety with technique, tuning, posture and general performance -- Nonetheless, it was found that there is a significant correlation between state anxiety (r= -0,654) and trait anxiety (r= -0,730) with interpretation -- These results serve to carry out future studies in which it will be necessary to work with a larger sample and differentiate the musical performance according to the type of instrument usedPublicación La vergüenza como moduladora del comportamiento en la novela Infancia de J. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Bioingeniería GIB (CES – EAFIT)Depression, anxiety and anger trait have been shown to be factors related to poor prognosis in patients with cardiovascular disease. A sample of 168 patients with ischemic heart disease that have had a cardiac event in the last month (age: Mean = 64 years, SD = 11; 66.7 % men) was evaluated to verify the existence of negative affect as a common factor among the previous emotions in these patients. Patients answered the Spielberger depression, anxiety and anger trait questionnaires. Exploratory factorial analyses were carried out to confirm the factorial structure of the scales. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the existence of negative affect as a higher order factor (X2 = 3.42, p >.05; CFI >.95, TLI >.95, SRMS <.05). These results suggest that it is important to consider dimensional models for the treatment of emotions in this population. © 2018, Universidad Catolica de Colombia. Departamento de Humanidades; Estudios en PsicologíaBackground Personality traits and mental health problems have been previously reported in unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) patients; however, few studies have clarified the relations between these variables and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study was designed to characterize the personality traits, HRQoL and mental health of patients with UIA and to evaluate whether personality has an influence on HRQoL and whether this is mediated by the patients’ emotional symptoms. Methods Sixty-three patients with UIAs (mean age 62.6 years, 83.9% women) answered questionnaires for depression, anxiety, HRQoL and personality traits between June 2016 and May 2019. Results Eight percent of the sample had depression, and 27.4% had anxiety. Participants showed high levels of responsibility, kindness and neuroticism and low levels of extraversion and openness. HRQoL scores were normal compared with the Colombian population. Structural equation analysis showed that patients’ HRQoL was negatively affected by anxiety levels and that the latter are associated with the patient’s personality, where neuroticism is directly associated with symptomatology and inversely associated with extraversion. Conclusions The results of this study showed the importance of personality and emotional symptoms in the HRQoL of UIA patients. These results are important for developing strategies for psychological counseling in patients with UIAs. © 2020 Lemos et al. Departamento de Humanidades; Estudios en PsicologíaObjective: To examine the relationship between the components of emotional dependency (ED) with anxious, depressive, and impulsive symptomatology. Method: 98 university students (68% women, age M = 20.2 years, ED = 2.19) responded to the ED Questionnaire (EDQ) (Lemos & Londono, 2006), the Beck Depression Inventory II (Beck, Steer, & Brown, 2011), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (Beck & Steer, 2011), and the short version of the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale BIS-15S (Spinella, 2007). Results: The structural model indicated that a fear of being alone is associated with separation anxiety, which in turn gives rise to plan modification (PM), search for emotional expression (SEE) and attention-seeking (AS). We found that PM was associated with depression, SEE with anxiety, and that impulsivity could lead to AS. Conclusion: These results identify potential therapeutic targets in people with ED.
