Ítem Alternativas de financiación para un cultivo de limón Tahití de mediana escala en Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Ramírez Uribe, María Paula; Orozco Echevery, César AugustoThe objective of this research was to determine the financing alternative that offered an adequate balance between the expected profitability and the risk that a medium sized producer is willing to assume in a Tahiti lemon crop to be stablished in Santander, Colombia. Based on the research carried out on the financing alternatives available to producers, it was concluded that for the case under study, only those credits designed to alleviate the impact that high costs have on project flows and that, therefore, generate liquidity. In summary, for this business model the best alternative was debt financing, ideally in times of low interest rates, since low debt costs are needed for the project to generate value; however, it was important to first evaluate the alternatives, since only one of them generated value.Ítem Análisis estructural e institucional del sector agropecuario colombiano: propuestas de políticas públicas con base en la experiencia suramericana(Universidad EAFIT, 2014) Vélez Tamayo, Juan Felipe; Piedrahíta Seifert, Támara; Perfetti del Corral, Juan JoséThis research seeks to study Colombia’s agricultural main challenges in the 21st century and suggests some possible public policy strategies to solve them -- Based on the research made by the economist Prabhu L. This study analyzed the effects of exchange rates and financial aspects on the import of raw materials in Colombia's agricultural sector, using data from 2007 to 2023. The TRM was taken as the dependent variable, with Cereals, Fertilizers, and Inorganic Chemicals as independent variables. The analysis included descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and ANOVA. The results indicated that the Cereals variable was significant with a p-value of 0.023 in relation to the TRM, suggesting that an increase in cereal imports is associated with a decrease in the exchange rate. Additionally, it was concluded that TRM fluctuations do not fully explain the import of raw materials, suggesting that other external variables should also be considered.Ítem Galería industrial ó aplicación de los productos de la naturaleza a las artes y oficios ; su orígen, sus progresos y perfeccion 1825, representados en una serie de ciento y cincuenta estampas, dibujos y grabadas con gusto por artistas inteligentes ; con un texto explicativo ; para el uso de la infancia y de la juventud / por la Sra. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Mecatrónica y Diseño de MáquinasPurpose The purpose of this paper is to review and examine the recent investment trends of firms operating in the food, feed and biofuel production and processing sectors in Latin America. The inter-related nature of these three sub-sectors and the great expansion they have gone through in the last decade showcases a series of socioeconomic and environmental policy challenges thus making it relevant to identify their different business models through a typology. Design/methodology/approach The paper first presents an unprecedented literature review based on field observations and media coverage of agri-business strategies of the food, feed and biofuel production in the region. It then moves to an in-depth analysis of investment operations that serve to classify such firms into a business model typology considering degree of internationalization and integration. The typology is a useful mechanism to enhance public policy analysis and uncover market or government incentives behind business decisions. Findings By focusing on investment strategies, the paper illustrates how both market and government incentives shape and affect the performance and consolidation of different players in the food, feed and biofuel sub-sectors in Latin America. The resulting effects have strong economic as well as social and environmental implications because such economic activities have an impact on global food and energy security. Research limitations/implications Limitations include a reliance on largely qualitative evidence and research methods due to unavailability of consistent numerical data in these specific agri-business sub-sectors. Originality/value This paper is unique in its focus on business models in a particularly relevant set of agri-business sub-sectors in Latin America and its implications to promote investment and innovation in value chain development while considering regional-specific challenges.Ítem Investment strategies in the Latin American agri-business sub-sectors of agricultural commodities, biofuels and meat chains(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2018-01-01) S. However, the economic and social conditions of this sector in most emerging economies are not the appropriate ones, leading to the questioning of the public policies aimed to agriculture. In this paper, the approach to improve these situations is based on a greater financial leverage for producers, focusing exclusively on the Colombian case. The goal is to provide a new basis for agrarian policies in this specific area. The document contains a review of: the current regulations dedicated to the financial leverage of agriculture, the economic and social data of the sector, and an illustration of the actors’ (users and public policy makers) perspective through an indagatory instrument; so they are contrasted with the objective of obtaining new public guidelines related to financial support in agriculture. Based on this comparison, the proposal built here consists in a long-term public policy, focusing on nine scopes, where standout: financial education, government and banking accompaniment and agricultural insurance.Ítem Modelo de negocio para establecimiento comercial de frutas y verduras en la ciudad de Armenia, Quindío(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Galvis Gómez, Juan José; Giraldo Hernández, Gina MaríaÍtem El papel de la mujer rural en la productividad agrícola de pequeños predios de Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Ruiz Gallego, Lina María; Bedoya Zapata, Elizabeth; Muñoz Mora, Juan CarlosÍtem Perfil del comercializador no registrado de plátano en el municipio de Montenegro, Quindío, para el periodo 2010-2011(Universidad EAFIT, 2011) Maya Echeverri, Miguel Ángel; Calle Correa, Fabio Antonio; Ramos Beltrán, NataliaBeginning of the Christian coffee presented in the triangle of coffee, it became necessary to seek new alternatives that were profitable in a short time and generate a steady cash flow to property owners, it becomes important and growing banana inside the premises in Montenegro, generating large hectares of this crop in principles shook hands with the farmer. Departamento de Ingeniería; Ciencias del MarThe Andean drainage basins of Colombian deltas exhibit a very delicate variety of ecosystems and environments along its prolonged trajectory, which has made it particularly vulnerable to the onslaught of modernity and human activity. While the increasing intensity of natural disasters in tropical areas is often blamed on global warming, the causes might not be as intractable. Soil erosion and deforestation, both caused by unrestrained human activity, can affect deltas more profoundly. Many anthropogenic influences, including deforestation, an agriculture and pasture increase by 75%, poor soil conservation and mining practices, may have accounted for the overall increasing trends of sediment transport from rivers to Colombian deltas. According to our recent study of human activities in terms of deforestation, 32% of the observed variance in sediment transport from the Magdalena River to its delta could be explained by deforestation. Thus, the amount of sediment transported by the Magdalena to its delta plain, approximately 50 Mt annually, is probably due to deforestation. Also, the Patia River in the Pacific coast has witnessed an increase in sediment transport by 45% during the last decade, an increase mainly accounted for by deforestation. Drawing from Colombia's experience with man-made ecological modifications, this paper offers a preliminary discussion on the implications of human pressure on fluvial ecosystems and their deltas, with the hope that this information will better equip citizens and policymakers across the developing world.
