Secondly, it contributes to the macroeconomic dynamism that occurs in nations in terms of growth, employment, income, innovation and competitiveness. Focusing on Theories of Corporate Entrepreneurship and Resources and Capabilities, the aim of this paper is to relate the entrepreneurial orientation as intention to corporate entrepreneurship as action, considering their differences and complementarities. The database used for empirical confrontation comes from the survey of 137 SME in the Colombian manufacturing sector. Multivariate analysis models and structural equations were estimated, and quantitative evidence of direct and positive relationships with both phenomena indirectly mediated by the capability to assess and manage projects will be presented. This capability has been little explored in previous studies and not proven in relation to the phenomenon analyzed. The results of the factor analysis suggest that this capability can be considered as a theoretical construct, adding theoretical developments with respect to previous studies which have included and analyzed other capabilities.Ítem Entrepreneurial orientation, assessment and management of projects and impact in corporate entrepreneurship: Intention to action(Institute of Applied Business Economics, 2017-01-01) Montoya, R.A.C.; Martins, I.; Ceballos, H.V.; Universidad EAFIT. The main aim of this study is to explore the impact of the use of networks on the development of entrepreneurial orientation and company growth. Considering the possibility to control possible biases and following suggestions made in previous studies, we have used objective measures of performance in this study. To analyze the data, we applied models of structural equations. The results indicate a positive impact in terms of the use of networks in the development of entrepreneurial orientation and they confirm the positive and significant effect of entrepreneurial orientation on business growth. Finally, they point out the direct and indirect effect of the use of networks on the growth of smes. © 2015, Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Departamento de Administración; Información y GestiónÍtem Network Usage, Entrepreneurial Orientation and Their Effectiveness on SMEs Growth(Sage Publications India Pvt. Ltd, 2016-03-01) Martins, I.Research findings suggest that networks provide small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) opportunities to achieve sustainable competitive advantages and thus compete successfully in the marketplace. In this study, the research question explores the effectiveness of the network usage on the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) development and the moderate role of the EO in the network-SME growth relationship. The empirical part of the study comprises a survey of 121 manufacturing SMEs in Spain. Structural equation modelling confirmed the importance of both organisational networks and EO on SMEs growth and pointed out the positive effect of network usage on EO development.Ítem Orientación Emprendedora y Emprendimiento Corporativo: Diferencias y complementariedad en un modelo intención-acción(IMEF, 2020-08-31) Martins, I.; Cardona, R.; Velasquez, H.Ítem Orientación Emprendedora y Emprendimiento Corporativo: Diferencias y complementariedad en un modelo intención-acción(IMEF, 2020-08-31) Martins, I.; Cardona, R.; Velasquez, H.; Universidad EAFIT. The essay also proposes a contingency model to explore the moderating effects of environmental hostility on the relationship between EO and profitability. The study was conducted using a sample of 121 manufacturing SMEs in Spain. Results confirm the positive influence of EO on a firm's profitability. More importantly, the impact of EO on SME profitability is higher when there is a fit between EO and the external environment.Ítem Self-confidence and fear of failure among university students and their relationship with entrepreneurial orientation: Evidence from Colombia(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LIMITED, 2018-01-01) Martins, I.; Monsalve, J.P.P.; Martinez, A.V.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the impact of features of personality such as self-confidence and fear of failure on the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) of university students enrolled on entrepreneurial education courses. Design/methodology/approach: Variables related to risk-taking, innovativeness, proactiveness, as well as those related to self-confidence and fear of failure, are taken into account. Using linear regression, the authors investigate how self-confidence and fear of failure affect the EO of university students. Findings: As pointed out by results, both self-confidence and fear of failure are determinants of the EO of university students. Self-confidence has a positive and consistent effect on the three dimensions of EO, whereas fear of failure has a negative effect on EO. Research limitations/implications: It is not possible to assure that, in the medium and long term, individuals more prone to taking risks, innovating and proactivity will in fact become entrepreneurs. Also, even though it does not affect the relevance of the findings, it must be highlighted that this study has been carried out with a specific sample of students and results may vary in different contexts. Originality/value: This study offers a new insight relating individual’s self-perceptions and their impact on EO. Equally important, the findings of this paper offer relevant information for the design of academic programs aimed at strengthening students’ personal aspects to promote self-confidence and tolerance to fear of failure as predictors of the EO in this collective. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.Ítem Testing mediating effects of individual entrepreneurial orientation on the relation between close environmental factors and entrepreneurial intention(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2020-01-01) Martins, I.; Perez, J.P.Purpose: Drawing on the literature on entrepreneurial intention (EI), this paper develops and tests a model that aims to explain student EI by considering the valuation of entrepreneurship and the venture failure stigmatization in the closer environment of the respondent and the role of individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) through direct and indirect effects. Design/methodology/approach: The paper uses a survey method for data collection. As such, this study was conducted by considering a sample of 1,155 undergraduate students from different majors. Structural equation modeling is used to validate the theoretical model. Findings: The findings suggest that a positive closer valuation of entrepreneurship facilitates students' EI. In turn, a closer stigma of entrepreneurial failure hinders students' EI. More importantly, IEO has a significant mediating role in both of these relationships. The findings offer important theoretical and practical implications for the field of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial behavior. Originality/value: The paper offers a new insight relating environmental cognitive elements and their impact on EI, besides how IEO represents a determinant role shaping these relations. The proposed model is original and makes a connection between two widely validated constructs and evidences the relationship that may exist between the orientation and the real intention of setting up a business. Moreover, IEO has rarely been addressed for verifying interaction effects. This paper is one of the very first studies that applies the IEO (individual-level of entrepreneurial orientation) as a mediating variable. © 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited.Ítem What Latin America says about entrepreneurship?
