Ítem Propuesta interpretativa de la sonata para piano y violín N.3 Op. 108 de Johannes Brahms, primer movimiento(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Arango Caro, Isabel Cristina; Gil Araque, Fernando AntonioPerforming Johannes Brahms’ piano and violin sonatas is a musical and intellectual challenge for any musician. The excellence of Brahms’ work, the technical mastery of the instrument and the expertise on the romantic style language - just to mention a few - are crucial factors when it comes to making interpretive decisions. Concerns frequently arise regarding the interpreter's creative "freedom" over the musical work, and in this sonata’s case, some arose during its preparation. Because of this, the author raises the following questions: Which boundaries define the work of both the author and the interpreter? Is the interpreter merely a textual replicator of the composer's ideas or can he or she imprint their creative skills on the musical text? What can the interpreter do to achieve a respectful version of the original writing and at the same time rich in personal nuances? Considering these concerns, this article presents an interpretive proposal based on a personal version, describing, comparing and justifying some peculiarities in the execution of Brahms’ sonata in relation to bowing, fingering and dynamics. In addition to this, it seeks to reflect on various elements of violin technique such as bow handling, production of vibrato, phrases and musical intentions of Brahms’ repertoire. Also, this article shows how these technical elements on the violin are both related and differentiated between a personal version and its Urtext edition.
