The acquisition was meant to boost eBay’s revenues, by making it more convenient for buyers and sellers to communicate on the auction platform. Shared benefits were seen to increase the number of users for Skype and enhance the features available for eBay users within its platform. Unfortunately for eBay, their customers did not find any use for Skype’s technology, which was initially intended to connect sellers and buyers quicker and make communication easier. After years of trying, the acquisition led to a write-down of the value of Skype in eBay’s books and finally (and luckily for eBay) led to a sale to Microsoft. Microsoft acquired Skype and created its division within the company that reported directly to Microsoft’s CEO. The company has adopted a passive stance to materialize the synergies while being conservative of Skype strategy, brand, and user experience. Different independent sources categorize this deal as a success. Our analysis highlights the approach Microsoft took for the governance of the collaboration and how it was adapted to the sources of potential joint value and the major capabilities of Skype business model and competitive position.Ítem 40 años de reformas al Estado en Colombia : una mirada al diseño de las políticas de reforma al Estado colombiano(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) García García, Juan Mauricio; Leyva Botero, SantiagoÍtem 50 años de gerencia tecnocrática de los ingenieros de la Escuela de Minas de Medellín en las empresas de servicios públicos en Medellín 1920-1970(Universidad EAFIT, 2014) González Salazar, Natalia; López Díez, Juan CarlosÍtem A call for research on soft-skills in international entrepreneurs : a systematic literature review(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Zuluaga Quintero, Estefanía; Román Calderón, Juan PabloÍtem A case study on scheduling university timetables using a three-phase matheuristic(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Rodríguez Garzón, Camilo Andrés; Rivera, Juan CarlosÍtem A Class of Conservative Lagrangian-Eulerian Methods on Triangular Grids for Hyperbolic Problems : Design, Analysis and Applications(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Agudelo Quiceno, Jorge Eliécer; Pérez Sepúlveda, John Alexander; Cano Sánchez, José AlbeiroIn this thesis, we construct, analyze and implement a class of fully-discrete and semi-discrete schemes on triangular grids intended to numerically solve initial value problems involving multidimensional hyperbolic conservation and balance laws, both scalar and systems. The construction of this novel class of schemes is based on the no-flow surface/curve concept and introduces an effective class of numerical fluxes that do not require constructing or evaluating the Jacobian matrix of the respective flux functions. The implementation of the new fully-discrete and semi-discrete Lagrangian-Eulerian schemes, , in the solution of nontrivial scalar and systems problems, is performed using a weak CFL-type stability condition that is independent of the eigenvalues (exact and approximate values) of the relevant Jacobian of the numerical flux functions, and without the need for high-resolution reconstruction procedures.Ítem A comparative study of the hydrodynamic performance of planing boats through experimental and statistical approaches(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Giraldo Pérez, Erick Santiago; Osorio Gómez, GilbertoÍtem A comparison of wage dynamics in two Latin American countries: different policies, different outcomes(Universidad EAFIT, 2017) Carvajal Osorio, Luis Carlos; Canavire Bacarreza, Gustavo JavierThis article explores the variations in the wage distribution in two Latin American countries, Bolivia and Colombia, which have had different economic policies in recent years -- Using data from household surveys, a decomposition of the wage distribution in each country using Functional Principal Component Analysis is conducted -- The results suggest that Bolivia, which has taken left-wing economic policies, has experienced a general increase in wages, especially benefiting the least skilled workers and the informal sector -- On the other hand, the wage distribution in Colombia, whose economic policy has been focused on free-market principles, has become more concentrated around the median wage, mainly due to changes in the formal sector wagesÍtem A Dynamic Approach to Modeling Count Data Based on Intensity Functions of Non-Homogeneous Poisson Processes and Functional Data Techniques(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Chavarría Serna, Juan Esteban; Ortiz Arias, Santiago; Velasco, HenryÍtem A Fixed Grid method for hyperelastic models in large strain analysis using the level set method(Universidad EAFIT, 2014) Ramírez Benítez, William Alberto; García Ruíz, Manuel JulioA Fixed Grid Finite Element Method (FGFEM) in addition to a Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic model is introduced. This method uses the mixed finite element formulation to treat the elements, but classifying these in a fixed cartesian grid that is superimposed over the model geometry -- In order to do this, the boundary tracking is achieved by solving the level set equation -- A numerical extrapolation of the displacement field from the solid domain to the entire fixed grid domain is done -- The system of equations are solved by the use of an incremental Newton-Raphson scheme -- Finally, some numerical examples are implemented and good convergence results are obtained for the displacement field, showing that FGFEM for the hyperelastic model is suitable for mechanical problems undergoing large strains and large displacementsÍtem A framework for Rapid Product Development based on digital techniques : an industrial case study of ceramic-based product(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Trujillo Ángel, Luis Alfonso; Rodríguez Arroyave, Carlos ArturoÍtem A Fuzzy ELECTRE method with k-means clustering to qualitative characterize provision factors(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Pérez Muñoz, Natalia; García Suaza, Carlos Daniel; Peña Palacio, Juan AlejandroÍtem A high-performance hybrid agent-based model for simulating urban vector-borne disease transmission(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Londoño Montoya, Luisa Fernanda; Escudero Marín, Paula Alejandra; Escudero Marín, Paula AlejandraÍtem A logistic process immaturity model proposal(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Márquez Gutiérrez, Mateo; Carmona González, Guillermo León; Castro Zuluaga, Carlos Alberto; Carmona González, Guillermo León; Castro Zuluaga, Carlos AlbertoÍtem A los pinches chamacos : laboratorio de lectura literaria para adolescentes que no les gusta leer(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Bernal Silva, Joel David; Cardona Zuluaga, Alba PatriciaÍtem A Machine Learning driven Energy Management System for tropical household prosumer nodes(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Giraldo Pérez, Juan Pablo; Mejía Gutiérrez, RicardoÍtem A Multivariate Outlier Detection Methodology Based on S-Orthogonal DOBIN Projections(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Cano Campiño, Andrés Mauricio; Ortiz Arias, SantiagoÍtem A new segmentation approach using dynamic variables on individuals(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Prieto Escobar, Nicolás; Laniado Rodas, Henry; Monroy Osorio, Juan Carlos
