Departamento de Ciencias; Geología Ambiental y TectónicaThe museum's potential as a geographic epicenter and of social development, allowed the application of educational strategies through: physical interventions, training and implementation of informative resources in the existing geological collections; with the purpose of carrying out a dialogue of knowledge that will broaden the understanding of the territory by residents and visitors. These strategies were based on a review of the geological information of Antioquia Eastern focused on the genesis and evolution of the main geoforms. In carrying out the present work it is recommended the integration of mechanisms that facilitate the application of the National Guidelines of Social Appropriation of Geological Sciences in places like the Museum of El Penol, considering that they play a role as mediators of geological knowledge in rural Colombia.Ítem Aspectos geomorfológicos de la avenida torrencial del 31 de Enero de 1994 en la cuenca del rÍo Fraile y sus fenómenos asociados(Universidad EAFIT, 2004-01-01) Hermelin, Michel; Hermelin, Michel; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ciencias; Geología Ambiental y TectónicaMore than 75% of Colombia's 42 million people live in urban areas located in the mountains and are exposed to numerous natural hazards: floods, flash floods, landslides, earthquakes and volcanism. The Armero disaster of 1985 triggered the creation of the National System for Disaster Prevention and Relief. National, regional and local committees started to operate across the country, accompanied by education commissions that produced diverse audiovisual materials to help educate people living in these areas. The experiences of working with local committees gained during the last two decades are presented here. Case histories are from cities such as Pereira, Manizales and Medellín, where the local committees are run by people with little or no formal education but who understand that they must participate as a group to prevent or mitigate the effects of natural disasters. The co-operation between technical experts and trained residents represents an outstanding example of good communication and co-operation for urban populations living in dangerous areas. Although many problems have yet to be resolved, these case histories show that this type of organization seems to be more effective than direct intervention from national government agencies. The models of community participation and communication developed and refined here may have application to similar social environments in other countries. © 2008 Geological Society of London.Ítem Construcciones en zonas geológicamente inestables: Colapso de una vivienda en la Vía Medellín - Santa Elena(Fondo Editorial Universidad EAFIT, 2008-01-01) Sierra, Gloria Maria; Sierra, Gloria Maria; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ciencias; Geología Ambiental y TectónicaNew detrital zircon-fission track (ZFT) and magnetic fabric data are presented to constrain the time of deposition, provenance and deformation of the of Lower and Upper members of the Amagá Formation in the Amagá Basin. The Amagá Basin is located in the northern Andes, between the Western and Central Cordilleras of Colombia. The Amagá Formation was deposited in a transpressive geodynamic context and is allegedly synchronous with tectonic events such as the Andean orogeny and the Panama-Choco Block collision with the northwestern South American Plate. Detrital ZFT data confirm an Oligocene age for the Lower Member and a middle-Miocene age for the Upper Member of the Amagá Formation. In addition to constraining the depositional age, the ZFT data presented in this study also reflect Paleocene-Eocene, late to early Oligocene and late to middle Miocene cooling in sediment source areas mainly located in the Central and Western Cordilleras of Colombia. These ages can be associated with regional exhumation events in the central and northern Andes of South America. Collisional stages of the Panama-Choco Block against northwestern South America, subduction of the Farallon-Nazca Plate and strike-slip reactivation periods of the Cauca-Romeral fault system, caused NW-SE compression and NE-SW simple shear in the Amagá Basin. This deformational regime, identified by magnetic fabric data, induces syn- and post-depositional deformation over the Amagá Formation. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.Ítem Edad y proveniencia de las rocas volcano sedimentarias de la Formación Combia en el suroccidente antioqueño-Colombia(Geological Engineering Curriculum Program, Geosciences and Environment College of Mines Faculty, National University of Colombia - Medellin Headquarters, 2006-11-01) Sierra, Gloria Maria; Sierra, Gloria Maria; Universidad EAFIT.
