A.S.; Fundación Ave FénixThe municipality of Corinto, Cauca, faces significant challenges in the management of its solid waste, with approximately thirty-one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two inhabitants and a considerable monthly production of urban waste. This waste is deposited in an open dump, which causes environmental damage to the soil, air, and water. Although in the rural area there is some use of organic waste, the lack of environmental awareness and the lack of adequate education contribute to the contamination problem. This degree work focuses on conducting a pre-feasibility analysis for the implementation of a solid waste plant in Corinto, Cauca, with the objective of developing sustainable practices that contribute to the proper management of waste and to the strengthening of environmental conservation in the region. A mixed research methodology will be used, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to evaluate the feasibility of the project. The methodology is adapted to the preinvestment phase and considers technical, regulatory, environmental, and economic aspects of solid waste management. It began with an environmental analysis, followed by a technical study that provided information on project requirements. Legal aspects were also evaluated, as well as possible environmental impacts, proposing measures to mitigate them. Finally, a financial analysis was carried out to evaluate the profitability of the project, using indicators such as the Net Present Value and the Internal Rate of Return. This work seeks to offer an integral solution for solid waste management in Corinto, Cauca, that promotes environmental sustainability and contributes to the integral development of the territory. The mismanagement that is given to solid waste and the current economic model of consuming and disposing of it have caused a negative environmental impact and an intense consumption of natural resources that has caused a great increase in this waste in the world. In Colombia, since 2003, the legislation for the correct management of solid waste began to be implemented, however, there is still no conclusive result that has allowed an effective solution to this problem. Since 2007 in Medellín and its metropolitan area legislation was developed on the correct management of solid waste that includes a Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (PMIRS). Despite the existing legislation, the solid waste recovery rate in Medellín is barely 17%, compared to European cities like Copenhagen where the waste recovery rate is around 80%, which shows an important opportunity of business in this sector. Of the 2,000 tons of urban solid waste (MSW) that Medellín produces per day, 1,100 are generated by families in homes and 900 by industries and SMEs. The objective of this research is to design a service that advises and implements the integral management of solid waste in the urbanizations of Medellín. For this research, 27 semi-structured interviews were carried out, with 7 different profiles of people who were related to the objective of the research, where it was identified that the factors that most motivate urbanizations to implement this service are: Education in waste management solid, saving money by avoiding fines and penalties and an environmental benefit since having good solid waste management, there will be less waste in landfills.Ítem Diseño y fabricación de un recipiente para la separación de residuos en el hogar, elaborado a partir de un material reciclado(2009-10-13) Gaviria Barreneche, Camila; Márquez Vélez, Melissa; Serna Arboleda, Leidy DianaPublicación Estudio comparativo de requisitos legales para la formulación de planes de manejo integral de residuos sólidos en propiedades horizontales de los municipios del área metropolitana del valle de Aburrá (AMVA)(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Murillo Palacios, Sully Melissa; Hernández Pardo, Yeiny Yuliett; Henao Arango, María CeciliaHorizontal properties located within the municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley (AMVA) are mandated to design and implement processes underpinning environmental management, specifically within the domain of solid waste governance, through the formulation and execution of Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plans (PMIRS). Accordingly, the unification of operational guidelines that regulate both the generation and the appropriate management of solid waste across the region becomes imperative. This study employs a qualitative, documentary-based methodology aimed at examining the prevailing legal framework, as well as the conceptual foundations and benefits associated with the implementation of PMIRS. Furthermore, it reviews the assessment and sanctioning methodologies currently in force. Legal provisions are identified according to their scope of application, their relevance to the horizontal property regime within the AMVA is analyzed, and a comparative matrix of existing environmental regulations is developed. The findings suggest the need for coordinated improvement strategies to coherently orient the processes implemented in each municipality. Publicación Propuesta de implementación del programa de Producción más limpia para una empresa reacondicionadora de envases industriales(Universidad EAFIT, 2015) Mejía Fernández, Carlos Andrés; Kuan Duque, Yuan ConstantinoPublicación Revisión del estado del arte, de algunos sistemas de gestión integral de residuos sólidos en Colombia y en el mundo, para generar recomendaciones de implementación de buenas prácticas, en el municipio de Sopetrán departamento de Antioquia(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Quiceno Flórez, Adrián Esteban; López Barrantes, Silvio AndrésThe main purpose of this study is to carry out a review of the state of the art of some integrated solid waste management systems in Colombia and worldwide, in order to identify better practices from the economic, environmental and social aspects, to generate suggestions for the adoption of a waste management model in the Township of Sopetrán, Department of Antioquia. Regarding the methodological framework, this study is longitudinal research, which means an analysis of the development of solid waste management in the world and in Colombia; also, this is exploratory research to build recommendations or methodological proposals that will enable the future development of practices or models based on well-established and existing practices. This research is also descriptive because it allows us to analyze the elements and facts which have influenced globally and locally to carry out a good solid waste management, through a detailed analysis of the most outstanding projects and thus determine the most appropriate to implement in the Township of Sopetrán. Documentary research was used as the main instrument, based on primary input, reviewing the studies conducted by other researchers and cities about solid waste management, which provided us different points of view and implementations to determine the best system or alternatives to be adopted in the Township of Sopetrán. While several programs have been implemented in the Township of Sopetrán, contamination is still a problem due to the lack of adequate solid waste management. In accordance and based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the project "Feira do Lixo" of the Green Change Program of Curitiba/Brazil can be replicated, being an innovative model of how environmental management and food safety may be combined to enhance the people's quality of life. The proposal suggested to the Township of Sopetrán is an alternative that might be useful specially to help with the issue of adequate solid waste management, which will promote the town's economy and the sustainable agriculture.Publicación Technical and economic feasibility of ceramic waste as a coarse concrete aggregate(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Pérez Trujillo, Laura; Gil González, María Camila; Acosta Maya, Diego Andrés; Builes Toro, SantiagoThe production of solid waste continues to increment over the world. In Colombia waste generation grew 13% in only 6 years. This has led to a sanitary landfill crisis in various municipalities, like Medellín, where its main landfill La Pradera has only 7 years of lifespan and no current backup plan. This has created a massive necessity for alternative ways to waste reutilization and development into a circular economy. One of the industries present in the Valle de Aburrá is GAMMA, a ceramic insulator producer, for which approximately 10% of the monthly production is waste. Ceramic waste can be very harmful to the environment causing high concentration of Magnesium or Iron in the soil, also its degradation can take thousands of years. The infrastructure sector is one of the main factors in the economy, where concrete is a raw material with a great potential for residue reutilization. Eco-efficient concretes made from ceramic waste have been studied and shown to be compliant regarding compressive resistance demanded by standards (BS EN 12390-6:2001) [1]. In this study, ceramic electrical insulators are used as a coarse aggregate in concrete manufacturing for different substitution percentages of coarse aggregate (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%). Our results confirm the performance potential and the economic viability of the material for the proposed scenarios when compared to conventional concrete. The 25% of coarse aggregate replacement was the only mixture compliant with Colombian standards having an average compressive resistance of 28.05 MPa after 28-day of setting. For both the modified and conventional concrete, the workability results were 7cm within the required range of 2,5 and 7,5cm for structural concrete.
