Efecto de la apertura comercial para el empleo y la producción textilera en Colombia
(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Bedoya Mejía, David; Villa Herrera, Nicolás; Goda, Thomas
The following work is the result of a research study where the main objective is to establish the effect trade opening on employment and production in the Colombian textile sector. We find that the opening up of the economy produced huge changes in the sector's exports and imports since 1992, which had important impacts on employment and production in this sector. Using a fixed effects econometric model, we identify that the value added of the textile sector was negatively affected by tradeopening. Hence, we conclude that trade liberalization was not beneficial for the Colombian textile industry.

Estrategia para la circularización de la economía circular del sector textil en el municipio de El Santuario
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Bedoya Tamayo, Paula Andrea; Mejía Dugand, Santiago
This research proposes a strategy for circularizing the economy within the textile sector of El Santuario, Antioquia. The primary objective is to enhance the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of the region. A diagnostic assessment of current textile waste management revealed a predominant linear model, which has led to negative impacts such as a reduced landfill lifespan and increased operational costs for businesses. A qualitative methodology, employing descriptive and exploratory approaches, guided the research through three phases: key stakeholder mapping, waste stream characterization, and an analysis of organizational culture. These insights facilitated the design of a strategy specifically tailored to the local context, articulating technical, cultural, and institutional actions. The proposed strategy encompasses integrated waste management, the reuse of by-products, the formalization of recyclers, the creation of inter-institutional alliances, and the promotion of an organizational culture based on sustainability principles. Furthermore, an implementation timeline, monitoring indicators, and funding sources were defined.

La satisfacción laboral y su efecto en el desempeño en una empresa mediana del sector textil en Bogotá
(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Ceferino Cardona, Rafael Eduardo; Atehortua Monroy, Juan Carlos; Betancur Hurtado, Carlos Mario
Market demands and globalization test medium and small enterprises in Colombia and force them to change their internal processes, applying strategies that allow them to improve their competitiveness, the objective of this work was to analyze the degree of job satisfaction of the workers of a company in the textile sector of Bogotá, the results of which will be the basis for structuring a motivational plan that contributes to the improvement of performance. A descriptive qualitative methodology was used, the instrument used was semi-structured interviews conducted with employees in different areas of the company. For the analysis of the results, the ECRO model (conceptual, referential and operational scheme) was used, which allowed to establish a qualification for each of the aspects that affect job satisfaction and to identify the most relevant, in order to define actions leading to improvements in human resource management through a more effective motivation plan. Across this investigation it was possible to conclude that the labor satisfaction, the motivation and the performance are closely related and are complementary, therefore, the organizations must work according to the improvement of the labor conditions, with the intention of impelling the performance and consequently the productivity.

Modelo de predicción de venta en una compañía textil con técnicas de Machine Learning
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Lezcano Echeverri, Jhon Wilder; Puerta Puerta, Henry Daniel
This study explores the implementation of sales forecasting models in a Colombian textile company, combining traditional techniques with Machine Learning-based approaches. Daily sales data from 187 stores between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed. The methodology followed five stages: (1) exploratory analysis, (2) feature engineering, (3) model implementation, (4) model optimization and fine-tunning, and (5) comparative validation. The models implemented were: Prophet, XGBoost, Random Forest, and regularized Linear Regression. Prophet achieved the best overall performance for units sold (R² = 0.7121), standing out for its ability to capture complex seasonal patterns and adapt to store-level variability. XGBoost demonstrated high accuracy in non-linear scenarios, Random Forest showed robustness to noise, and Linear Regression provided greater interpretability. Feature engineering resulted in 83 variables, including temporal components, trends, volatility, and special effects. A cross-sectional analysis revealed common patterns such as peak underestimation, higher error in smaller stores and weekends, and lower accuracy in predicting monetary values compared to units. The findings confirm that sales forecasting using Machine Learning offers substantial improvements over traditional methods, enhancing operational efficiency, inventory optimization, and financial planning. Prophet is recommended as the primary model, along with the establishment of monthly recalibration cycles to maintain accuracy.
