GÓMEZ; Departamento de Humanidades; Estudios de Filosofía, Hermenéutica y NarrativasThe following paper deals with the relationship between elocution and understanding. The purpose is to present four arguments against the usual dissociation of understanding and rhetorical elocution: First, there are not philosophical reasons for to dissociate the natural way of speck and the rhetorical one. Second, because the discourse is always intentional a rhetorical dimension is inseparable from the meaning of the expressions. Third, the referential function of the rhetorical discourse depends of several functions associates with the rhetorical discourse. Fourth, the elocution can be understood as a reason for the choice of arguments, and not necessarily as an instrument for the persuasion.Ítem Écfrasis literaria en De sobremesa de José Asunción Silva(Universidad EAFIT, 2014) Quintero Tobón, Carlos AndrésEste texto tiene como propósito profundizar, a partir de la figura retórica de la écfrasis, en la relación que se presenta entre la pintura y la literatura en la novela De sobremesa de José Asunción Silva -- Para tal fin, se utilizarán algunos de los conceptos trabajados por Michael Riffaterre en su texto “La ilusión de écfrasis” -- Con base en ello, se revisará la manera en que se configuran algunos personajes de la novela a partir de obras de arte, ya sean estas reales o imaginarias, referidas en su mayoría a los prerrafaelitas ingleses; y, adicionalmente, en cómo se desarrollan en la novela otros elementos que van más allá de los cuadros, como las influencias que marcaron a ese movimiento artístico de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, la manera en que estos artistas concibieron la relación entre la poesía y la pintura, y su técnica pictóricaÍtem Endoxa, Hypólepsis Parádoxos and Martyría in Aristotle’s Theory of Slavery(Universidad EAFIT, 2020-06-24) Cárdenas, Luz Gloria; Universidad del CaucaThis paper initially discusses Aristotle’s theory of slavery in his Book I of Politics in an attempt to demonstrate the use of two procedures: a dialectic process, based on his discussion with Plato, and a rhetorical process, using metaphors and testimonies to set up an epistemological framework for his theory. Subsequently, this work focuses on an issue to be elucidated: the difference between endoxa, thesis (hypólepsis parádoxos), and testimony (martyría). In his description of the dialectical method in Topics, Aristotle explicitly states the meaning of “endoxa” and “thesis”. Furthermore, he discusses the term “testimony” in Books I and II of Rhetoric. Consequently, these two types of procedures, the types of proof, and the conclusions in his Book I of Politics will be identified based on the characteristics described in Topics and Rhetoric.Ítem María de Jorge Isaacs: el simbolismo de un discurso evocador(Universidad EAFIT, 2016) Arias Peña, Ricardo AndrésEste artículo busca explorar e interpretar la manera en que se presenta y se transforma el discurso evocador en la novela María, de Jorge Isaacs, escrita en el siglo XIX -- La interpretación y análisis se soporta sobre las categorías y registros que ofrece Katya Mandoki, en su texto Prosaica: introducción a lo estético de lo cotidiano, desde la perspectiva del intercambio estético en el cruce de la retórica y la dramática -- Se concluye que las formas expresivas del orden simbólico y el lenguaje semiótico en el discurso evocador, se transforman de acuerdo a las circunstancias y hechos que rodearon la particular vida del autor de la obra en menciónÍtem Modernización de las campañas electorales a nivel subnacional caso sur del Valle de Aburrá(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Escobar Torres, Jairo Alberto; Restrepo Echavarría, Néstor JuliánÍtem Multidimensionality and the Validity of Deliberation(Universidad EAFIT, 2020-06-24) Gómez, Julder; Universidad EAFITMany deliberation problems are multidimensional: the arguments for and against the proposed solutions appeal to values that belong to different dimensions. Thus, for instance, the arguments in favor of the proposal to negotiate to solve the problem of a domestic armed conflict may draw upon peace, whereas the arguments against it may invoke justice. This enables spokespeople to accept the premises of an argument without committing themselves to agreeing to its conclusion and justifying such an argument by emphasizing the premises of the opposing argument. “Yes, a negotiation would reduce the number of deaths caused by political violence, but it would also lead to impunity; therefore, we should not negotiate.” If this situation were indomitable, the deliberation arguments could never be valid; they could never be such to the extent that the acceptance of the premises would force whoever accepts them to agree to the conclusions. In this paper, some of the answers to this problem are considered: the answers of Kock (2009), Govier (2010), and Olmos (2016) as well as the response of Macagno and Walton (2018). Furthermore, several issues found in these answers are pointed out, and in an attempt to provide a solution, a distinction is made between the cases wherein it is possible and those wherein it is impossible to overcome the problem of deliberation multidimensionality.Ítem On Understanding in rhetorical elocution(Universidad EAFIT, 2009-05-25) Gómez, Julder; Universidad EAFITÍtem Programa de intervención para el fortalecimiento de la capacidad argumentativa del equipo de Key Account Managers del Grupo Logístico TCC. Empoderamiento para hacer tangible el valor(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Escobar Guerrero, Billy Harbey; Restrepo Escobar, Laura Isabel; Romero Ochoa, Edgar Sebastián; Londoño Restrepo, NataliaThis program links the theory of argumentation with behavioral studies by focusing on the deliberative system of the individuals who are the focus of the intervention, with the aim of providing them with knowledge and learning techniques to strengthen their persuasive abilities and train them in argumentative skills. The target population is a group of thirteen Key Account Managers (KAM) of Grupo Logístico TCC, a leading company in the logistics sector in Colombia. The KAM team is responsible for making the value proposition tangible at each stage of the company's relationship chain, which is why argumentative quality is a fundamental competence to perform its role. To this end, two fundamental lines were addressed: the first rhetoric, focused on the training of techniques to increase the quality of the arguments that allow them to be reliable and credible (ethos), manage emotions (pathos) and refine the use of persuasive arguments based on reason (logos). The second is logical-dialectical to increase their argumentative skills in the construction of solid arguments. It was implemented under a multimodal model or mode, within the EAST intervention methodological framework and a pre-experimental research design with pretest and posttest in a single group. The same qualitative instrument was used, in the pre-test and post-test: a survey with 8 vignettes, with client objections, requiring each agent to write down responses. The main finding lies in the significant improvements found comparing the pre-test and posttest since, in the former, the heterogeneity of the arguments was considerably high, in relation to the organization's value proposition. In the latter, greater homogeneity and alignment is perceived in the discourse between the intervened agents. It is concluded that the multimodal intervention, based on the use of images, video, texts, experiences, workshops, and other narrative resources, represents an effective tool for strengthening argumentative skills. According to the scarce evidence found in the literature, which incorporates this line of argument within the topic of behavioral studies, it could be stated that the present experiment represents a novelty in the field of the discipline.Ítem Reflective Judgment, Common Sense, and Exemplariness. A Study on the Paradigm of Judgment and its Reception by Alessandro Ferrara and Hannah Arendt(Universidad EAFIT, 2020-06-24) Castro-Hernández, Juan Carlos; Universidad Nacional de ColombiaThe paradigm of judgment is a rationality model that intends to stand as a positive alternative in view of the current challenges posed by the linguistic change of philosophy in contemporary thinking. In the face of the difficult task of defending universalist principles in the current culture, this model aims to take a positive stance on issues such as the normative validity that may affect the relationships between human action and deliberation. To fulfill its goal, the paradigm of judgment endorses a form of normativity with no principles (exemplary validity), which is rooted in Kant’s reflective judgment and the sensus communis (common sense) of the humanistic rhetoric tradition. The objective of this paper is to present this model of rationality under the Kantian philosophy, and through an exploration of the historico-philosophical background (Gadamer) and a detour along the humanistic rhetoric tradition (Aristotle and Vico), it seeks to put aside the esthetic emphasis in Kant’s groundwork. Finally, the scope and relevance of this paradigm in the reappropriation by two of its interpreters in contemporary philosophy, Alessandro Ferrara and Hannah Arendt, are assessed.Ítem Relación interartística en los Cuadernos de Don Rigoberto de Mario Vargas Llosa(Universidad EAFIT, 2012) León Restrepo, Ana MaríaA partir de la lectura de la novela del escritor peruano Mario Vargas Llosa Los Cuadernos de Don Rigoberto, el presente artículo pretende hacer una breve descripción de la relación entre arte y literatura, en específico la intertextualidad pintura y producción verbal, presente en dicha obra -- Este artículo se divide en tres apartados: la contextualización de la novela, sus antecedentes y principales motivos de análisis literario, hasta el desarrollo de la relación mencionada en el párrafo anterior que configura una reflexión sobre el lugar de la contemplación en el juego ecfrásico instaurado a través de la lectura de la novela, para finalizar con un apartado de conclusiones finalesÍtem Rhetoric, Materiality and Practice of Historical Knowledge in Colombia during the Second Half of the 19th Century(Universidad EAFIT, 2014-11-26) Cardona Z, Patricia; Universidad EAFITÍtem Talk is better: Deliberative Experiments to Microterritorial Conflict Resolution(Universidad EAFIT, 2020-10) Eslava, Adolfo; Montoya, Juan David; Murcia, David; Valencia, Sergio Andrés; Universidad EAFIT; Proantioquia; Universidad EAFIT; Universidad EAFITThe following analysis develops a wider research program that focuses on making a contribution to solve social conflicts through argumentation. Therefore, it presents a political sciences theory background that emphasises on applied rhetoric and deliberation in scenarios characterized by both high levels adversity and social capital.
