According to the Global Risks Report 2025 of the World Economic Forum (2025), extreme weather events have emerged as one of the most significant threats confronting economies, organizations, and cities in the coming decade. Furthermore, the State of the Climate in Latin America and the Caribbean 2024 report indicates that recent years have brought substantial financial and operational consequences across multiple countries due to a combination of hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and severe flooding. The effects of these events are hardly confined to a single geography; rather, they tend to propagate throughout value chain, generating disruptions in logistics, supply inventories, infrastructure, and markets. Consequently, cascading effects of considerable magnitude arise exponentially and amplify total losses (World Meteorological Organization, 2025). Nevertheless, few organizations have systematically incorporated climate and operational risk management into their strategic planning processes and formal governance frameworks. This limitation reflects a significant gap between the materialization of climate-related impacts and the implementation of measures aimed at forecasting and/or mitigating such risks (Weinhofer & Busch, 2013). In alignment with the foregoing, the present study aims to propose a stochastic model for corporate application to enable the measurement and quantification of acute physical climate risks in organizations across multiple sectors. Specifically, the research integrates the identification of physical climate risks relevant to operational continuity and financial resilience with an assessment of existing quantitative methodologies. This information is subsequently processed in the development of a model that incorporates hazard, exposure, and vulnerability factors in conjunction with financial performance indicators.Publicación Resiliencia climática para el sistema de transporte masivo del Valle de Aburrá – caso de estudio – líneas H y M del Metro de Medellín - Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) López Muñetón, Marly Andrea; Posada Londoño, Paola Andrea; Cadavid Restrepo, Carlos FernandoThe growing challenges of mobility at the national level—particularly regarding efficiency, sustainability, and safety—require urgent responses to ensure quality of life for urban populations. Climate change has added an additional layer of complexity, demanding that transportation systems not only be efficient but also resilient. This thesis proposes a methodological framework for managing climate resilience in the operation of mass transit systems, with a focus on the Aburrá Valley in Colombia. Using the H and M lines of Medellín’s aerial cable system as a case study, this research identifies the key economic, social, and environmental factors that influence climate vulnerability in the area. The methodology outlines the stages necessary to assess risks, implement treatment and control strategies, and estimate the avoided costs resulting from proactive climate risk management. The study contributes to the development of tools that support climate adaptation in urban transport, strengthening continuity and sustainability in the face of extreme weather events.
