Publicación Actitudes del millennial medellinense presentes en la decisión de compra de un servicio de alojamiento en Estados Unidos(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) González Romero, María Alejandra; Rojas De Francisco, Laura IsabelIn order to set effective sales strategies aimed to be at the forefront of the needs and desires of Medellin’s Millennials, in relation to their tourism activities, the present research is intended to establish a set of knowledge based on the identification of beliefs, emotions and behaviors that may appear during the process of deciding which lodging service to buy into the United States. To do so, concepts related to tourism, Millennials, and the attitudes that influence their purchase decision are pointed out within this research, trying to identify the factors they take into account when buying this kind of services, such as the use of technology and the quick and easy access to information. To achieve it, a qualitative research is carried out by means of deep interviews, composed of a protocol focused on topics such as travel companions, main travel destination into the United States, usage of Internet, before, during and after the trip, travel insurances activation, sustainability promotion, social and ecological commitment into the accommodation places, housing with pets, relevant features to choose the accommodation, types of accommodation preferences into the United States and technological tools to make reservations for housing. The results show motivators such as showing tourism as a life purpose, preferences to travel to the United States and services expected. With these findings, it is created a material with which advice for travel agencies and accommodation’s suppliers can be offered.Ítem Colombian millennials at the workplace(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2019-01-08) Roman-Calderon J.P.; Gonzales-Miranda D.R.; García G.A.; Gallo O.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a study on the antecedents of turnover intentions (TOI) of millennial Colombian employees. A theoretical model in which positive work-family interaction, professional respect (PR) and meaning predicted TOI is simultaneously tested in Millennials and Xers. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used a multigroup structural equation approach to analyze the data provided by 2,157 Millennials and 279 Xers. Participants work in 11 companies from five Colombian cities. City, age, sex, tenure and wage are included as control variables to respond to some limitations of previous research and isolate the effects of age cohorts. Findings: The results show differences in terms of some of the variables under study. Further, the effects of positive work-family interaction and PR on TOI were different from one age cohort to the other. The influence of meaning on the outcome variable was equal in Millennials and Xers but resulted positive. Research limitations/implications: The authors studied an under-researched population, used rigorous analytical procedures to simultaneously test the hypotheses across generations, analyzed data from a large sample size and control for confounding variables identified by researchers inquiring generational differences at the workplace. By these means, the study contributes to literature on millennial employees and age diversity. Originality/value: By studying an under-reseach population and using suitable analytical techniques, the study contributes to literature on millennial employees and age diversity. © 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.Ítem Colombian millennials at the workplace(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2019-01-08) Roman-Calderon J.P.; Gonzales-Miranda D.R.; García G.A.; Gallo O.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a study on the antecedents of turnover intentions (TOI) of millennial Colombian employees. This study argues that cultural differences are not perceived as constrains in millennial global virtual teams (GVTs). Additionally, using the theory of cooperation and competition and the motivated information processing perspective, the purpose of this paper is to uncover the process by which millennials working in GVTs address various challenges to ensure effective functioning and accomplishment of desired team outcomes. Design/methodology/approach: This paper analyzes a data set of 503 project journals from the global enterprise experience, a virtual team competition. It uses qualitative content analysis tools and secondary data sources. Findings: The authors find that for millennials, cross-cultural issues are not the predominant challenge when working in GVTs, unlike the prevailing understanding in the IB literature. This is because contrary to expectations, cross-cultural problems are often not experienced, while other team phenomena become more relevant, such as interpersonal and task-based issues. In addition, the paper describes how members of GVTs apply distinct challenge reconstruction and solution generation cognitive schemes to deal with both, expected and unexpected challenges. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature on virtual teams by identifying how millennials and post-millennials deal with the challenges embedded in the GVT interaction context by simplifying the unfamiliarity associated with the broader context rather than addressing each issue in isolation. Finally, the paper elaborates on factors that highlight the positive outcomes of multicultural teams while making cultural differences less salient in contemporary GVT contexts. © 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited.
