(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Builes Taborda, María Isabel; Montaño Largo, Paola Andrea; Guerrero Latorre, Jorge Harley
The municipality of Corinto, Cauca, faces significant challenges in the management of its solid waste, with approximately thirty-one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two inhabitants and a considerable monthly production of urban waste. This waste is deposited in an open dump, which causes environmental damage to the soil, air, and water. Although in the rural area there is some use of organic waste, the lack of environmental awareness and the lack of adequate education contribute to the contamination problem. This degree work focuses on conducting a pre-feasibility analysis for the implementation of a solid waste plant in Corinto, Cauca, with the objective of developing sustainable practices that contribute to the proper management of waste and to the strengthening of environmental conservation in the region. A mixed research methodology will be used, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to evaluate the feasibility of the project. The methodology is adapted to the preinvestment phase and considers technical, regulatory, environmental, and economic aspects of solid waste management. It began with an environmental analysis, followed by a technical study that provided information on project requirements. Legal aspects were also evaluated, as well as possible environmental impacts, proposing measures to mitigate them. Finally, a financial analysis was carried out to evaluate the profitability of the project, using indicators such as the Net Present Value and the Internal Rate of Return. This work seeks to offer an integral solution for solid waste management in Corinto, Cauca, that promotes environmental sustainability and contributes to the integral development of the territory.

Changes in the global environmental situation have prompted companies to develop a strong interest in sustainability and circular economy issues. In particular, in the company Bavaria there is an interest in seeking opportunities for the use and re-incorporation of many of its packaging materials, whether they are trying to use them in their own products or through the use and exploitation in alternative products. Specifically, in the present project the PET material of the amber bottles will be analyzed, material that is currently used for the production of a part of the volume of Pony Malta, and whose volume has a significant market share, which is why the material acquire importance in circular economy projects. For this reason, there is a need to establish and evaluate different alternatives that the company can execute, in order to give options for reuse and exploitation in order to fulfill its sustainability and responsibility commitment towards the environment. To achieve this, a qualitative analysis was carried out supported by semi-structured interviews with six experts, where it is intended to know de the experience of each of them issues related not only to the legal context of use of plastic material in the massive consumption sector and how this impacts operations of PET bottles market, but also alternatives for use of PET bottles post-consumption where it is relevant to identify the best proposal for this material, as well as identifying key allies to identify the strategy proposed for Bavaria succeed. The final result showed that de all alternatives only one of them seemed to be the optimal, since it is the only one that would guarantee a significant use of the post-consumption material of PET bottles, and, although it is not the only alternative, according to the interviewees it is the most viable and sustainable. However, in order to execute, Bavaria must work on several aspects: first, together with the government, they must define whether PET bottles are considered single-use plastics, since this would have repercussions on the country's laws; secondly, it must work hand in hand with other actors in the PET bottle cycle chain, to work on consumer education issues in order to increase the volume of waste that people separation at home; and thirdly, it must define the physical and economic means with which the project will be developed, moreover the key allies with which it must work during the process.

Sustainable fashion is a portion of the fashion industry worldwide which is growing stronger and which the big brands in this sector have promoted in recent years. Due to global trends in carbon dioxide reduction and good environmental practices, in Colombia this type of fashion is already part of the environmental discussion agenda. In the Colombian fashion industry there are still no clear numbers on the environmental impact of clothing manufacturing, but it is known that many of the international brands that people currently consume have a high impact due to the number of clothes they manufacture, the water that contaminates the textile processes and in addition to the bad human resources practices. In Colombia there are already brands that have built sustainability processes for the production of clothing and already have a group of consumers who care about responsible consumption, however, it is also important to know which are the consumption habits of the people who look for companies that care about environmental and social sustainability, what are the motivations they have for buying this type of clothes and the needs they cover when making the decision, knowing that is important for marketing and for brand building to have an overview of what this consumer behavior is like.

(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Bedoya Velez, María Elisa; Corrales Saldarriaga, Juan David; Gómez Salazar, Elkin Arcesio
The present feasibility study aims to determine the viability of developing an ecotourism project in the San Pedro village, La Marquesita farm, located in the municipality of Anserma, Caldas. To this end, an exhaustive analysis of the tourism sector in the region was conducted, identifying trends, opportunities, and threats that could influence the project’s development. Additionally, the potential market was evaluated, understanding the needs and preferences of the target audience and analyzing the existing competition. A detailed technical feasibility study was carried out, considering the required infrastructure, available natural resources, accessibility, and the carrying capacity of the environment. Legal and regulatory frameworks were also identified, and the necessary administrative processes and procedures for efficient project management were established. Furthermore, the project’s environmental impact was assessed, designing mitigation, control, correction, conservation, and compensation measures to ensure the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity in the area. The financial viability was calculated by estimating investment costs, expected revenues, and projected cash flows, as well as identifying available funding sources. Finally, potential risks associated with the development and operation of the ecotourism project were identified and mitigation strategies were implemented. This study provides a solid foundation for informed and strategic decision-making in the management of ecotourism projects in the region.

The need to appeal to alternative energy sources and the energy transition process that is taking place in Colombia finds photovoltaic systems as a source of electricity generation that is friendly to the environment and without a carbon footprint. However, the waste it generates includes contaminants such as Lead, Cadmium, Tin, and Silicon that, if adequate collection, transfer, and disposal processes are not found, could become a problem for the environment and for human beings. According to Holger (2022), globally more than 30 thousand tons of waste from solar panels are generated per year and it is estimated that by 2035 that amount will reach one million tons per year. Therefore, this documentary research is carried out with the objective of analyzing the socio-environmental impact generated by technological waste from the use of solar energy, studying the Colombian regulatory framework, the way in which other societies have faced the problem and proposed alternative solutions. in the scientific literature. For this purpose, a qualitative, descriptive, documentary and non-experimental investigation is carried out that revealed the potentially harmful components present in photovoltaic panels, the Colombian regulatory framework and the position of the State regarding the energy transition.
