This study analyzed the effects of exchange rates and financial aspects on the import of raw materials in Colombia's agricultural sector, using data from 2007 to 2023. The TRM was taken as the dependent variable, with Cereals, Fertilizers, and Inorganic Chemicals as independent variables. The analysis included descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and ANOVA. The results indicated that the Cereals variable was significant with a p-value of 0.023 in relation to the TRM, suggesting that an increase in cereal imports is associated with a decrease in the exchange rate. Additionally, it was concluded that TRM fluctuations do not fully explain the import of raw materials, suggesting that other external variables should also be considered.Ítem Fondeo alternativo para el financiamiento de grandes productores agroindustriales en Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Santamaría Vásquez, Isabella; Álvarez Giraldo, Laura Victoria; Mejía Kambourova, DavidÍtem Fondo rotatorio para financiar a pequeños productores agrícolas del departamento del Cauca(Universidad EAFIT, 2017) Ortíz Marín, Vianey del Carmen; Ortega Plaza, Felipe; Trespalacios Carrasquilla, AlfredoLa población rural colombiana y en especial la del departamento del Cauca, obtiene su sustento a través del desarrollo de actividades enmarcadas en el ámbito de la agricultura, afrontando problemas de conflicto armado, altos niveles de pobreza, concentración de tierras, precarias condiciones de vida, problemas de seguridad alimentaria, y poca cobertura de entidades financieras y/o gubernamentales que brinden apoyo económico y técnico para alcanzar y desarrollar las actividades económicas de una forma más adecuada -- Por este motivo, y de la mano con el postconflicto que se avecina en nuestro país, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estructurar un fondo rotatorio para una empresa sin ánimo de lucro, constituida desde hace ya 23 años y establecida en 32 municipios del departamento, la Corporación para la Investigación el Desarrollo Agropecuario y Medioambiental CINDAP -- La conexión con esta entidad permite cristalizar esta iniciativa, que estructura el fondo rotatorio y que contempla temas legales, administrativos y financieros encaminados al funcionamiento y control de la misma -- Se desarrolló bajo los lineamientos de la Etnografía como Metodología utilizada a nivel global, con el fin de que permitiese una cercanía importante con la población objetivo, encontrando así, la urgencia de tender la mano al sector agrícola del departamento del Cauca, pues la pobreza, la poca cobertura financiera y Estatal, y además el conflicto armado, han conllevado a instaurar unas precarias condiciones de vida en este sectorÍtem Fuzzy Model for Risk Characterization in Avocado Crops for Index Insurance Configuration(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Jiménez Benjumea, Juan Pablo; López Giraldo, Laura Isabel; Peña Palacio, Juan AlejandroClimate change has caused strong variations in agro-climatic parameters such as precipitation, temperature, and relative humidity, accelerating the phytosanitary conditions associated with agricultural crops, mainly in insect pests, since these generate an alteration in their life cycle and an increase in their population. This causes significant economic damage to important crops such as the Hass avo- cado, which has had a growing development and demand in national and inter- national markets, which has generated significant income for small and medium- sized farmers and exporters of this fruit in the country. To mitigate the impacts of climate change on agricultural production, it is possible to implement digital agriculture technologies. These technologies allow estimating the incidence of climate variations on crops through the monitoring of agro-climatic and phyto- sanitary variables that affect fruit growth. Therefore, a variable dispersion model with fuzzy characterization is proposed that seeks to establish a correlation be- tween rainfall and the aggregate distribution of losses in the Hass avocado crop. In order to analyze and validate the proposed model, the random variables related to phytosanitary risk were taken and characterized. Subsequently, the frequency and severity random variables were modeled as linguistic random variables using fuzzy logic concepts. The results indicate that rainfall is the key variable to cor- relate in the search for an index insurance model based on agricultural risk, as well as in the characterization of qualitative and quantitative risks, promoting the improvement of financial and environmental sustainability by reducing agricul- tural losses through better crop management.Ítem Granja porcina autosostenible en el sector Poza Honda, parroquia Patricia Pilar, cantón Buena Fe, provincia Los Ríos, en el país de Ecuador(Universidad Zamorano, 2023) Silva Riofrio, Luis Alfredo; Castillo Zambrano, RogelIn Ecuador there is a comparative advantage in meat production, and factors such as the wide availability of inputs and the natural environment that led to agro industrial production. The availability of soil, climate, surface and water allows the entire pork industry to be developed while respecting the environment and animal welfare. Therefore, in the following work, the prefeasibility of the construction of a self sustainable farm dedicated to the production of pigs in the Poza Honda sector, Patricia Pilar parish, Buena Fe canton, Los Ríos province, in the country of Ecuador will be evaluated. Determining the aspects and requirements necessary to carry out the aforementioned activities, and for these various studies are carried out, such as market studies, where the current situation in terms of demand and supply of the product to be supplied is specific, and the existing competitive situation of the product. Technical studies, taking into account operational and functional aspects, requirements on and off campus, materials and supplies for the construction of the barn, based on the requirements of the animals, production processes and various factors. It is necessary for the normal functioning of pig production, as well as a final economic study in which all economic and financial parameters are analyzed.Ítem Impacto en el estado de resultados de una compañía porcícola en Colombia ante el uso de coberturas cambiarias para la adquisición de maíz(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Roldán Delfino, Santiago; Urrego Gómez, José; Cardona Llano, Juan FelipeIn Colombia, companies in the agricultural sector rely on imported materials. This forces companies to conduct transactions in foreign currencies, primarily in US dollars. This situation exposes companies to foreign exchange risk, which, along with the volatility of the Colombian peso and its dependence on the dynamism of the global economy, makes it interesting to consider the possibility of using financial instruments such as derivatives to minimize or mitigate the inherent risk in this activity. The volatility in the exchange rate generates uncertainty and high variation in the cash flows of companies in the agricultural sector due to the difficulty of making an accurate projection of cash flow, as there is a significant challenge in projecting the value that the currency will have at the time of importation. Thus, the purpose of this document is to evaluate the impact that the use of hedging through derivatives to manage exchange rate risk for the acquisition of corn would have on the income statement of a pork company in Colombia.Ítem Implicaciones de aplicar estrategias de sostenibilidad en empresas medianas del sector agroindustrial(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Quiceno Cadavid, María Alejandra; Meneses Avella, Andrés Julián; Mesa White, JuanitaThe adoption of sustainable practices at the corporate level is a fundamental pillar for the development and long-term success of productive activities. In agriculture and agroindustry, these practices gain significant relevance, as these activities play an important role in the food supply chain, provide employment to more than one billion people, and generate more than $1.3 billion in food annually, according to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Globally, the urgency to address the climate crisis and consumer demands, driven by growing environmental awareness and challenges, constantly pushes the sector to maintain a state of continuous improvement and adopt sustainable approaches in its practices. Considering this, this document aims, through a case study, to diagnose the reality of medium- sized agricultural/agroindustrial companies in Colombia. Using qualitative interviews and content analysis, we will explore how the implementation of sustainable practices is reflected in the company's environmental, social, economic, or corporate governance development. Additionally, we will identify the benefits these strategies bring to operational efficiency, the quality of life of their employees, the well-being of local communities, and the environment. Specifically in Colombia, acquiring knowledge and experience to implement and manage sustainability programs is prioritized. Due to their characteristics, medium-sized agroindustrial companies have the resources and the purpose of expanding into new markets but lack the implementation of these systems or do not have their strategies properly documented to measure and communicate them. In conclusion, this study proposes, through a diagnosis and improvement plan based on a business case study, to identify the intersection between corporate responsibility, environmental management, and innovation in the agricultural and agroindustrial sector. The goal is to deeply understand the challenges and benefits linked to the transition towards sustainability and contribute to strategic decision-making in this sector, under the premise that sustainability is not an option but a necessity and the key to generating value and business survival.Ítem Mercado de la leche : análisis económico y jurídico del sector agropecuario más importante de Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Botero Rodríguez, David Santiago; Molina Guerra, Martín; Vélez Villegas, Juan EstebanÍtem Piloto Centro de Transferencia Tecnológica para el sector del Agro(Universidad EAFIT, 2016) Álvarez Sánchez, Camilo; Bedoya Bayer, Andrés Felipe; Vargas Sáenz, Mario EnriqueÍtem Plan exportador Grupo Ferpo(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Rivero Acosta, Adriana Milena; Zuñiga Raigosa, Jaime AlberoÍtem Pre-factibilidad para la creación de un fondo de transformación agro de 5.000 hectáreas de pequeños y medianos productores en el municipio de Jericó a cultivos sostenibles(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Pulgarín Monsalve , Sebastián; Tobar Guinand, José MauricioThis study was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the feasibility of establishing a fund for agricultural transformation in the Municipality of Jericó, Department of Antioquia, with an extension of 5,000 hectares destined for sustainable crops. The main objective is to benefit both small and medium-sized local producers, as well as to boost the economy of the municipality as a whole. The project arises as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy of Jericó, leveraging resources that could come from the company Anglo Gold Ashanti as a counterpart to the eventual copper exploitation in its Quebradona Copper Mining project, located in this region. The initiative seeks not only to diversify and modernize agricultural practices in the area but also to improve the quality of life of local producers and promote sustainable economic development. It is expected that through the implementation of this fund, the adoption of more efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural techniques, as well as access to training and technology to optimize production, will be promoted.
