Ítem Adaptación y creación de música colombiana de Bambuco, Pasillo y Joropo para el aprendizaje y formación del Trombón(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) González Castrillón, Jhon Wilson; Alunno, MarcoThis article propose a way of teaching trombone based on both Colombian culture through folkloric rhythms such as bambuco, pasillo and joropo, and the more traditional American, French and German schools where examples and arguments are given to support this musical and instrumental pedagogy. This should allow a more dynamic development and learning of the instrument through the adaptation and creation of Colombian music and melodic exercises of great interest for both students and teachers.Ítem Adaptive learning objects in the context of eco-connectivist communities using learning analytics(Elsevier BV, 2019-11-01) Diego, Mosquera; Carlos, Guevara; Jose, Aguilar; Diego, Mosquera; Carlos, Guevara; Jose, Aguilar; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesEco-connectivist communities are groups of individuals with similar characteristics, which emerge in a connectivist learning process within a knowledge ecology. ARMAGAeco-c is a reflexive and autonomic middleware for the management and optimization of eco-connectivist knowledge ecologies using description, prediction and prescription models. Adaptive Learning Objects are autonomic components that seek to personalize Learning Objects according to certain contextual information, such as learning styles of the learner's, technological restrictions, among other aspects. MALO is a system that allows the management of Adaptive Learning Objects. One of the main challenges of the connectivist learning process is the adaptation of the educational context to the student needs. One of them is the learning objects. For this reason, this work has two objectives, specifying a data analytics task to determine the learning style of a student in an eco-connectivist community and, adapting instances of Adaptive Learning Objects using the learning styles of the students in the communities. We use graph theory to identify the referential member of each eco-connectivist community, and a learning paradigm detection algorithm to identify the set of activities, strategies, and tools that Adaptive Learning Objects instances should have, according to the learning style of the referential member. To test our approach, a case study is presented, which demonstrates the validity of our approach.Ítem AFOR-TSM: A Tool for Forecast with Time Series Models(Inst of Industrial Engineers; Cdr edition, 2012-01-01) Castro Zuluaga; Builes; Rosana; Bravo; Maria Cristina; Universidad EAFIT. Additionally, it reveals the existing distance between the companies of the construction sector and the institutions of higher education and centers of education for work in Santa Marta. This document is based on the application of surveys to the main and largest construction companies in the city, which have between 51-200 employees. As a complement, information obtained from secondary sources such as: SNIES, SIET, OLE, etc. is used. The changes in the positions, understood as updates or new required profiles, are closely related to the technological, organizational and environmental trends, as well as to the qualification that the human talent receives from the competencies provided by the IES and ETDH. It is evident in this exercise that despite the city's economic orientation towards services and tourism, the construction sector has gained strength, especially due to the conditions it presents. However, the low number of training programs offered in the territory associated with the activities and positions required limits the innovative and competitive development that can be achieved.Ítem Análisis de la movilidad social en Colombia durante las últimas dos décadas(Universidad EAFIT, 2022) Mejía Molina, Cristian Alexander; García Montoya, Juan Camilo; Goda, ThomasThis research is based on the realization of a social mobility index through intergenerational education, understood as that which associates the educational level of a current generation with its immediately preceding generation. This is justified by the reality that Colombia is currently experiencing in terms of inequality and poverty, being the second most unequal country in Latin America, as measured by the Gini coefficient. Through the following work, the behavior of such social mobility in the different regions of the country was analyzed, in addition to a differentiation by education quantiles, which allowed identifying characteristics of each population group. In general, it is found that social mobility in Colombia is low, however, it has improved in the last decade, and the need for a longitudinal survey is also mentioned, which would allow to better capture this phenomenon, since the current methodologies have many limitations.Ítem Análisis regional de los efectos de la educación y la experiencia en los salarios de Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Rúa Ramírez, Mateo; Rivera Duque, Esteban; Medina Gaspar, Daniel SantiagoÍtem Assessment of students' interactions in multinational collaborative design projects(Tempus Publications, 2015-01-01) Esparragoza, I.E.; Farak, S.L.; Ocampo, J.R.; Segovia, J.N.; Viganò, R.; Duque-Rivera, J.; Rodriguez, C.A.; Esparragoza, I.E.; Farak, S.L.; Ocampo, J.R.; Segovia, J.N.; Viganò, R.; Duque-Rivera, J.; Rodriguez, C.A.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Producción; Grupo en Tecnologías para la ProducciónExposing students to international experiences is becoming a common practice to prepare students with global capabilities. One pedagogical activity used to promote global competencies is the participation of students in multinational design projects. This is a problem-based learning approach in an international setting, where students get immersed in the solution of anengineering design task while they work in teams and collaborate with international partners. The main goal of these projects is to foster international collaboration and to offer an opportunity to the students to develop professional skills through international teamwork effort in the solution of a design problem. However, a real challenge of this practice has been to create an effective interaction among the students participating in this type of projects and to maintain the flow of information, and student engagement in the project and in their learning. The main objective of this work is to investigate the sociotechnical interaction of engineering students working in a multinational collaborative project and the role of information technology tools and the nature of the interaction in this experience. For this purpose an assessment tool was developed and used to determine the interaction among the students (frequency, quantity and quality), the value of social interaction in the flow of the interaction, and the impact of the interaction in the development of the project. The main findings of this instrument are presented in this work. © 2015 TEMPUS Publications.Ítem La autoevaluación en la Universidad EAFIT: Fundamentos y modelos(Universidad EAFIT, 2004-12-01) Jaramillo, AlbertoThis article presents the self evaluation model followed by EAFIT University, for the process of institutional accreditation and as a permanent model for the redefinition of the strategic institutional objectives and the formulation of development plans. EAFIT University accepts self evaluation as the frequent balance and revision of its research, teaching, and social projection activities within the strategic frame, and defined by the institutional vision and mission, and through the confrontation with the current state of the social environment and the impact achieved in this last one.Ítem Las ciencias sociales y las humanidades en los estudios sobre el cambio climático : un análisis de las conferencias presentadas en American Geophysical Union (2010-2018)(Universidad Eafit, 2020) Acosta Ramírez, Stefania; Mercado Percia, Heiner JoseÍtem Cognitive Skills, Schooling Attainment, and Schooling Resources: What Drives Economic Growth?(2009-11-15) Breton, Theodore R.This paper presents evidence that students’ test scores at ages 9 to 15 are not a good proxy for a nation’s stock of human capital. Across countries test scores rise with increases in human capital up to $40,000/adult (2000$), but then decline as human capital increases up to $125,000/adult. Schooling attainment is a better proxy for the human capital stock than test scores, but it is not very useful for statistical analysis because it is not a precise measure. The nation’s stock of human capital, calculated from cumulative investment in schooling, is the schooling measure most correlated with national income.Ítem Colegio Dental de Bogotá(Bogotá : Imprenta y Litografía de J. Casís, 1914) Colegio Dental de BogotáÍtem Collaborative tools for global design project management: Case study of an academic experience(AMER SOC ENGINEERING EDUCATION, 2010-01-01) Esparragoza I.; Mejia R.; Rodriguez C.The management of information and the capture of design ideas are very critical during the product development and product lifecycle management. They could be very challenging tasks when time, efficiency and quality are important and the concurrent design team is physically distributed in different locations. However, the existing technology for communication, the increase of tools over the Internet and the cloud computing model have made possible and accelerated the means of sharing information synchronous and asynchronously in a very effective way. This has facilitated the work of teams that in many cases are geographically dispersed around the world. Therefore, there is a need to start preparing the future engineers in the use of collaborative tools for global design project management not only to schedule and coordinate all the required tasks for the project but also to capture all the information, ideas and concepts generated during the design process which contains valuable data that supports design decisions. This paper presents the use of several tools for communication and project management used in academic collaborative global design projects. In these projects, students are required to work with international partners from different universities in coordinating activities and documenting the conceptual design for a given problem. The paper reports the experience using the tools and discusses opportunities and pitfalls in the use of them as they were identified by the authors. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2010.Ítem Conditions for the promotion and development of creative industries within higher education institutions(The Design Society, 2015-01-01) Hernandez, M.C.; Podesta, M.P.; Bedoya, B.E.Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play an important role on the promotion and development of creative industries (e.g. product design companies). These roles, however, are not clearly defined. Previous studies by the authors, conducted in Colombia, encountered several critical internal factors as well as environmental relationships proper of the ecosystem of business that affect performance in creative industries. HEIs can promote specific activities to become agents that enhance the development of these creative industries, thus contributing to overcome environmental and critical internal factors. This paper presents a model that can serve as a starting point within HEIs to establish policies towards this goal. For such purpose, the present research extended the aforementioned studies to Argentina and the United States, countries recognized worldwide for the development of "creative industries" or "creative economy". Fieldwork was performed in nine cities: two in Colombia, two in Argentina and five in the United States. Data was collected via interviews and focus group studies conducted at universities and creative industries, as well as with experts, government representatives and support organisations. A PESTEL analysis was used to identify weaknesses that could become opportunities for action within HEIs. The results allow for the establishment of nine key roles of the HEIs (i.e. education, moderator of the ecosystem, research, foster discussion, investment, on-going support, dynamism, joker, and simulation/real environment) that can be related to these institutions' substantive functions (i.e. teaching, research, extension, and support and integration), which contribute to enhance the development of creative industries, their growth and long-term sustainability. © 2015, The Design Society. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesThe Automatic Process Control course is part of the Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Production Engineering programs, offered by EAFIT University (Medellin, Colombia). This course has had a number of reforms in recent years, from two academic spaces to one that contains all the content and features them from theoretical and practical components. With this transformation, was generated the need to reduce the time commitment to each of the thematic, causing learning issues in students. For this reason, we have proposed a new reform in the course through the implementation of a content management model based on competences and supported by the integration of repositories and LMS platforms. This model seeks to train students in the skills defined by the courses and because of this, it is important that the learning process provide mechanisms to validate the skill level of each student, taking into account the outcome of the validation should correspond directly to the skills acquired in the training process. To support this model, there are technological tools as platforms for learning management and learning object repositories that support the online teaching and learning processes, and support the use of standards, generating interoperability, reusability, adaptability and scalability content. © 2014 IEEE.
