Estrategias de retención de personal para las generaciones Millennials y Centennials en Latinoamérica : una revisión sistemática de la literatura
(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Villamizar Rivera, Darlyn Fernanda; Padilla Solano, Yineth Daniela Alexandra; González-Miranda, Diego René
The analyzed generations, Millennials and Centennials, are of great interest to organizations and professionals who execute processes aimed at human talent management. The attraction, retention and adaptation of these new generations in a work environment represents a factor of change, development and evolution for both the workforce and the organizations themselves. This research was developed based on a systematic review of the literature in Latin America, related to staff retention strategies in the Millennial and Centennial generations, through a characterization of the generational profiles, as well as the different retention strategies related and applicable based on multiple sources of information published in the last 10 years. With this exercise, a generational profile was built in which 11 categories were identified that define the main characteristics of the two generations under study, and staff retention strategies were also identified, which were divided into 14 categories, applicable to the Millennial and Centennial generations in a work context.

Expectativas y preferencias laborales de un grupo de centennials de la ciudad de Medellín en proceso de inserción laboral
(Universidad EAFIT, 2024) Gutiérrez Monsalve, Nora Elena; Orjuela Gómez, Jonny Javier
The objective of this work is to characterize the job expectations and preferences of a group of young people from the centennial generation in the process of job placement in the city of Medellín. Research that accounts for the meanings, perceptions, expectations and work preferences of a group of young people, men and women, who can be identified as centennials, that is, those who were born between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, the period in which they are Information and Communication Technologies fully installed in society as a whole; a completely digital native population. Using a qualitative methodology, interviews are carried out with 10 young people from the city, to collect the perceptions, meanings, expectations and work preferences of this population, most of whom are finishing their professional studies or starting their working life. As a result, it is evident that young centennials want to be independent and assume that work is part and not the center of their existence. Their time is not only for work, they demand flexible schedules, alternating attendance at their companies and being able to enjoy daily rest and their social and family life; These young people want new challenges, hence moving from one job to another is not traumatic, as if it were for previous generations who dreamed of joining a company and staying there for the duration of their working life, until they reach retirement. The work concludes that the centennial generations are shaping a new type of worker, hence the need for companies to understand them better, to know how to scrutinize their skills and understand their tastes to better respond to their vital and leisure needs.

When technological savviness overcomes cultural differences: millennials in global virtual teams
    (Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2020-01-01) Velez-Calle, A.; Mariam, M.; Gonzalez-Perez, M.A.; Jimenez, A.; Eisenberg, J.; Santamaria-Alvarez, S.M.
Purpose: There is a generalized belief that cultural differences can have more negative consequences than benefits within the international business (IB) literature. This study argues that cultural differences are not perceived as constrains in millennial global virtual teams (GVTs). Additionally, using the theory of cooperation and competition and the motivated information processing perspective, the purpose of this paper is to uncover the process by which millennials working in GVTs address various challenges to ensure effective functioning and accomplishment of desired team outcomes. Design/methodology/approach: This paper analyzes a data set of 503 project journals from the global enterprise experience, a virtual team competition. It uses qualitative content analysis tools and secondary data sources. Findings: The authors find that for millennials, cross-cultural issues are not the predominant challenge when working in GVTs, unlike the prevailing understanding in the IB literature. This is because contrary to expectations, cross-cultural problems are often not experienced, while other team phenomena become more relevant, such as interpersonal and task-based issues. In addition, the paper describes how members of GVTs apply distinct challenge reconstruction and solution generation cognitive schemes to deal with both, expected and unexpected challenges. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature on virtual teams by identifying how millennials and post-millennials deal with the challenges embedded in the GVT interaction context by simplifying the unfamiliarity associated with the broader context rather than addressing each issue in isolation. Finally, the paper elaborates on factors that highlight the positive outcomes of multicultural teams while making cultural differences less salient in contemporary GVT contexts. © 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited.
