Disaster Risk Management In Business Education Entrepreneurial Formation For Corporate Sustainability
(Fondo Editorial Universidad EAFIT, 2016-07-19) Herrera-Cano, Carolina
The purpose of this paper is to show the importance of business education in Disaster Risk Management (DRM). This paper aims to evaluate the awareness level of the Master in Business Administration's (MBA) students regarding the importance disaster risk management (DRM) plays. This paper develops a literature review concerning the concept of disasters, Disaster Risk Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, and the role of MBA programs. Furthermore, a survey at Universidad EAFIT (Medellin, Colombia) was designed and implemented as primary source information with the purpose of showing the DRM awareness level of MBA's students. Finally, a case study connecting DRM with entrepreneurship formation is described. This paper identified a limited formal education in DRM Latin American MBA programs, and specifically at Universidad EAFIT. Additionally, a lack of awareness in MBA's students about the importance of DRM was identified. In this sense, the paper proposes a DRM education model that uses a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and entrepreneurial formation in business education. This study aims to show the importance of the inclusion of disaster risk reduction and management knowledge as part of the courses in: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship content in Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programs.

Global Financial Crisis and the Emergence and Maturing of Socially Responsible Investments
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2016-01-01) Herrera-Cano, C.; Gonzalez-Perez, Maria Alejandra
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to show how socially responsible investment (SRI) could represent a powerful tool (trust recovering in political and economic institutions) in the case of failure or stagnation of economic and financial growth. The purpose of this chapter is to evaluate the current status of SRI in the context of the recent financial and economic crises. The main objective of this analysis is to consider the different benefits and challenges that this type of investment transactions bring into the international economy, and how SRI entrance could represent a major benefit not only for investors a different approach to corporate sustainability but as an important possibility in times of global economic and political crisis. Methodology/approach - By analysing the literature about SRI, it has been developed a discussion regarding its benefits and obstacles in today's financial scenario. By evaluating the performance of SRI in the context of the global financial crisis and the important opportunities regarding development, we would like to present the SRI as an important tool in today's Post 2015 development agenda. Findings - After revising the existent literature, it has been found that there are two important discussions in the field of SRI. The first one is related with the financial performance of SRI in contrast with the conventional investment funds while the second one is related with important considerations about the SRI in the context of the global financial crisis. After considering the arguments from the different authors, we address some conclusions regarding the importance of SRI in nowadays sustainable development discussion. Practical implications - Due to failure in the traditional modus operandi of financial institutions and the recent global crises, investors, corporate executives and governments are increasingly paying more attention on the social, environmental and ethical behaviour of individual managers, shareholders and institutional investors. Therefore, it is being observed a shift and maturing process in SRI from an exclusive practice of few and specialised niche investment funds with minor financial implications and limited economic importance, to mainstream adopted by a growing number of institutional investors at the international level. This shift may influence companies and managers to adopt universal values and to assume a committed and strategic CSR agenda to respond to markets and societal expectations, in order to have guilt-free and sustainable investment and sustainable financial markets. Originality/value - Within the context of the Post 2015 development agenda, the role of business and the private sector has become crucial for funding the new sustainable development goals (SDGs). This chapter not only discussed the relationship between SRI as an alternative to overcome financial crises and lack of sustainability in investment, but it does also conceptually demonstrates the potential of SRI to achieve the funding of the SDGs. Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Moving between broadening the concept of marketing and social factors as a marketing strategy
    (Elsevier Espana S.L., 2017-01-01) Sanclemente-Téllez J.C.
In recent years, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been addressed and managed by all types of companies and organizations in several ways. It has also led both business people and scholars to articulate varied interests on the incorporation of this concept into their activities. Accordingly, this article seeks to relate the CSR concept to marketing by presenting a classification of different theoretical perspectives according to which these two constructs are interrelated. It is important to evaluate the ways in which marketing managers can apply CSR-related activities to generate value for their various stakeholders. It is just as important to advance knowledge on CSR implementation in the field of marketing through this literature review and corresponding empirical evidence. © 2017 ESIC & AEMARK

Proceso de ASC - LA INFLUENCIA DEL CONSUMO SOCIALMENTE RESPONSABLE EN LAS ACTITUDES HACIA PRODUCTOS COSMETICOS CERTIFICADOS
(Universidad EAFIT, 2020) Mejía-Gil, María Claudia; Ortega-Álvarez, Ana María; Universidad EAFIT
Colombia is no stranger to the new consumer trend. People are primarily concerned about the impact of the products they use on their health and the environment. This makes them look for products, in different categories such as food, transportation, clothing and cosmetics, that identify with their values. Multiple brands claim to have sustainability characteristics, however, in the market there are different seals that guarantee the sustainability characteristics they claim to have. This research seeks to establish if there is a relationship between the presence of sustainability certification seals in cosmetics, and the purchase intention of the products in young women, interested in leading a lifestyle aligned with socially responsible consumption, through a survey that measures the purchase intention of lipsticks with and without green labels, applying the CSR scale and another green label scale, to a sample of 300 people. Among the results, it was found that purchase intention increases when makeup products have green seals.

Responsible patterns of production and consumption: The race for the achievement of SDGs in emerging markets
(Universidad EAFIT, 2021-06-30) Gómez-Trujilllo Ana María; Velez-Ocampo, Juan; Castrillón-Orrego, Sergio A.; Alvarez-Vanegas, Alejandro; Manotas, Eva Cristina; CEIPA Bussiness Center; Universidad de Antioquia; Universidad EAFIT; Universidad EAFIT; Universidad Nacional de Colombia sede Medellín
Since the end of the 20th century, the role of private multinational enterprises (MNEs) has been recognized as critical in implementing increased sustainable production and consumption atterns. Particularly after the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Agenda 2030, this role has increased. In this sense, this paper aims to analyze the measures and actions taken by companies in their contribution to the achievement of the SDG 12. Through the identification of more than 52 metrics in sustainability reports of 854 firms, findings suggest that direct greenhouse gas emissions and indirect greenhouse gas emissions are the most often reported corporate metrics to measure their impact on specific SDGs. This reveals the importance of sustainability actions in emerging market firms as a mechanism to gain legitimacy when operating in foreign markets and as an opportunity to create more sustainable production models.
