Ítem Born globals from the resource-based theory: A case study in Colombia(Universidad Alberto Hurtado, 2015-01-01) Tabares, A.; Alvarez, C.; Urbano, D.This paper describes how a born global firm goes into international market from inception at its early years. The objective of this paper is to analyze from the resource-based theory how a born global firm engages in international market. This empirical investigation has been carried out as an explorative single-case study, a high-tech firm, Digital Partner, based in Medellin, Antioquia. The main findings of the research show that organizational capabilities based on intellectual capital are crucial for the development of a born global. Thus, capabilities such as entrepreneurship, global vision, internationally market knowledge, learning management, IT capabilities, technological innovation, collaborative work, networks and customer orientation are recurrent and they correspond to other similar research results. Contributions of the study are both academic (for the advance of the research in born global field) and practical (for the design of governmental policies to foster born global firms). © Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Facultad de Economía y Negocios.Ítem Determinants of female entrepreneurship in Spain: an institutional approach(Springer New York LLC, 2015-12-01) Noguera, M.; Alvarez, C.; Merigó, J.M.; Urbano, D.The purpose of this paper is to analyse the factors that influence female entrepreneurship in Spain, using institutional economics as the theoretical framework. The empirical research uses Spanish regional-level panel data (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and National Statistics Institute of Spain) covering the period 2003-2010. The main findings indicate that informal factors (recognition of entrepreneurial career and female networks) are more relevant for female entrepreneurship than formal factors (education, family context and differential of income level). The research contributes both theoretically (advancing knowledge with respect to environmental factors that affect female entrepreneurship), and practically (for the design of support policies and educational programmes to foster female entrepreneurial activity).Ítem El espíritu emprendedor de los estudiantes en Colombia. In light of institutional approaches and specifically based on the normative dimension, the main findings of the study indicate that participative leadership and higher education represent the strongest explanatory factor in the variance of the current rates of innovative entrepreneurship. This study has contributions for both researchers and policymakers on new firm creation (entrepreneurship) and on the generation of innovation within organizations (intrapreneurship).Ítem Opportunity-related behaviors in international entrepreneurship research: a multilevel analysis of antecedents, processes, and outcomes(Springer Verlag, 2020-01-01) Tabares, A.; Chandra, Y.; Alvarez, C.; Escobar-Sierra, M.The opportunity has become a central concept in International Entrepreneurship (IE) literature, and there is now a critical mass of literature focused on entrepreneurial behaviors of pursuing opportunities across national borders. However, scholars claim that research on these opportunity-related behaviors should consider a multilevel analysis where the interaction between the contexts, entrepreneurial action, and the opportunities can be clarified. From a multilevel analysis, the present study aims to understand antecedents, processes, and outcomes of opportunity-driven behaviors in the IE field. By conducting a systematic literature review, we analyze studies over the last 30 years (1989–2019). We found that the IE research around opportunities and related behaviors, far from suffering paucity and a weak conceptual basis, is abundant and is broadening its territory and boundaries. This study makes four contributions. First, we extend opportunity-related research in IE literature by considering a multilevel approach that incorporates individual, firm, and environmental aspects. Second, we offer an integrative model that outlines the antecedents, processes, and outcomes of opportunity-driven behaviors. Third, we suggest a definition of the IE field and the opportunity concept that can enrich the international opportunity debate, as well as its theoretical discussion. Fourth, we present theoretical contributions by identifying past advances and directions for future research. © 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Ítem Scenario analysis for strategy design: A case study of the Colombian electricity industry(Elsevier Ltd, 2019-01-01) Alvarez, C.Ítem University students' career choice intentions: Guesss Colombia study(Revista Espacios, 2017-01-01) Cano, J.A.; Tabares, A.; Alvarez, C.This article aims to describe the university students' career intentions from the theory of planned behavior. Data are obtained from GUESSS, an international research that examines students' career intentions (founders, employees, successors). The main findings show that in Colombia prevails the intention to be an entrepreneur and students' career intentions seem to follow the international pattern of being an employee and later a founder. Also, the study states significant differences for career intentions in the study fields, education level and academic performance, while gender and age range of students are not significantly different for career intentions. © 2017.
