The loss of biodiversity represents a significant threat to the well-being of present and future generations. In this context, biodiversity credits have emerged as a tool to finance actions focused on offsetting the negative environmental impacts generated by human activities through investment in conservation actions. This thesis focuses on evaluating the effectiveness and sustainability of biodiversity credit models implemented in Colombia. The main objective of the study is to review the current state of biodiversity credit markets in the country, identifying the specific components that define what is bought and sold in these markets, comparing the definitions and structures in different international contexts and evaluating the economic, social, and environmental benefits derived from these credits for the actors involved. Through a methodology that combines bibliographic review and semi-structured interviews with key actors, it seeks to provide a comprehensive and well-founded view of the operation and effectiveness of biodiversity credits today in Colombia.
