dc.description.abstractThis article presents some of John Locke's fundamental contributions to the consolidation of liberal thought. It begins with an introduction to the political context that animates his thought, then outlines the basic points of discord between Locke and Robert Filmer, one of his most important objects of intellectual confrontation, and then elucidates some of his main theses on the formation of the social state based on the notion of the state of nature, the critique of monarchy, and the criticism of monarchy. dc.description.abstractEn este artículo se presentan algunos de los aportes fundamentales de John Locke a la consolidación del pensamiento liberal. Para ello se comienza con una introducción al contexto político que anima su pensamiento, luego se esbozan los puntos básicos de discordia entre Locke y Robert Filmer, uno de sus más importantes objetos de confrontación intelectual, con lo cual se dilucidan algunas de sus tesis principales en torno a la formación del estado social a partir de la noción de estado de naturaleza, la crítica de la monarquía y la división del poder político con la función que en ella cumple la propiedad. El artículo finaliza con una conclusión en torno a los principios del pacto social en la teoría de Lockespa
