Resumen
The main objective of the research was to describe the reasons and psychological consequences in women who have undergone cosmetic surgery, using the cross-sectional descriptive qualitative case study as Method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five women of different ages from the Aburrá Valley. The results are presented by main categories analyzed, such as Reasons for cosmetic surgery, Meaning of surgery and Psychological implications. In conclusion, it is possible to demonstrate the positive impact for the women interviewed, after cosmetic surgery, since they feel happier with their physical appearance, increasing their self-esteem and giving a new meaning to their self-concept. However, the importance of carrying out a psychological evaluation prior to each intervention is raised.

La investigación tuvo como objetivo principal describir los motivos y las consecuencias psicológicas en mujeres que se han realizado una cirugía estética, utilizando como método el estudio de caso cualitativo descriptivo de corte transversal. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas a cinco mujeres de distintas edades del Valle de Aburrá. Los resultados se presentan en distintas categorías principales analizadas, como Motivos para la cirugía estética, Significado de la cirugía y las Consecuencias psicológicas. Como conclusión, se logra evidenciar el impacto positivo para las mujeres entrevistadas, después de la cirugía estética, ya que ellas se sienten más felices con su aspecto físico, aumentando su autoestima y dando un nuevo significado a su autoconcepto. Sin embargo, se plantea la importancia de realizar una evaluación psicológica previa a cada intervención.
