Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Bioingeniería GIB (CES – EAFIT)Objective: To implement a teleradiology pilot system in Medellín city using software for remote access, this allows the communication and interpretation of biomedical images at distance. Materials and methods: Images from different magnetic resonance and computed tomography studies stored in DICOM format were used. Data were transmitted in a point-to-point network using an integrated services digital network (ISDN) line between two radiological diagnostic centers. The system was developed under PC Intel's ×86 architecture, with Windows® 2000 as the operating system. Results: In order to read and visualize images stored in DICOM format, a Java application with functions that allow their manipulation and the option to export them to other formats such as JPEG, TIFF and BMP was developed. Conclusion: The system allows a clinically reliable diagnostic and remote interpretation for modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images, with acceptable response times. © 2006 Corporación Editora Médica del Valle.Ítem Electric Energy Transmission Processes and the Importance of Integrated System Management and Operation(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Horta Gómez, Oscar Julián; Dueñas Ramírez, Leidy Marcela; Villegas López, Gustavo Adolfo; Villegas López, Gustavo AdolfoElectric energy is fundamental in different sectors of a society's development; electric energy is used in all types of industries and economic sectors and is essential in people's homes, so access to a quality electric energy service in the city or in rural areas provides a reference index of a territory's level of development. For this reason, electricity transmission is considered one of the most relevant factors for improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of a country with a high poverty index. Electric power is a service that must be transmitted in a guaranteed manner with high standards of quality, reliability, and availability. This supports the economic development of a nation. This research focused on studying the efficiency of an organization that provides the service of transformation and transportation of electrical energy in Colombia and through this study to impact professionals, higher education institutions and companies to ensure their presence in the market, improving the quality of their graduates in different areas of knowledge such as physics and engineering and in parallel to provide companies with a guide that allows organizations dedicated to the electricity sector in Colombia to comply with existing regulations. This work highlights the need to perform mechanical, electrical, instrumental, operational and management processes with high standards for companies that provide electric power transmission service with equipment operating at voltages above 220 kV. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ingeniería de Diseño (GRID)Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) have sophisticated control mechanisms that help achieve optimal system operations and services. These mechanisms, imply considering multiple signal inputs in parallel, to timely respond to varying working conditions. Despite the advantages that control mechanisms convey, they bring new challenges in terms of failure prevention. The compensatory action the control exerts cause a fault masking effect, hampering fault diagnosis. Likewise, the multiple information inputs CPSs have to process can affect the timely system response to faults. This article proposes a failure prognosis method, which combines time series-based forecasting methods with statistically based classification techniques in order to investigate system degradation and failure forming on system levels. This method utilizes a new approach based on the concept of the system operation mode (SOM) that offers a novel perspective for health management that allows monitoring the system behavior, through the frequency and duration of SOMs. Validation of this method was conducted by systematically injecting faults in a cyber-physical greenhouse testbed. The obtained results demonstrate that the degradation and fault forming process can be monitored by analyzing the changes of the frequency and duration of SOMs. These indicators made possible to estimate the time to failure caused by various failures in the conducted experiments. © 2020 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.Ítem Interactions Between Intensive Care and Palliative Care Are Influenced by Training, Professionals’ Perceptions and Institutional Barriers(SAGE Publications Inc., 2020-08-19) Roman, J.Background: There is growing interest in the use of a Palliative care approach in Intensive care. However, it tends to remain inconsistent, infrequent or non-existent, as does its acceptance by intensive care physicians. This study sought to explore the perceptions, level of knowledge, perceived barriers, and practices of physicians regarding palliative care practices (PC) in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Methods: Descriptive-correlational study. Participating physicians working in ICU in Colombia (n = 101) completed an ad hoc questionnaire that included subscales of perceptions, knowledge, perceived barriers, and PC practices in ICU. A Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was used to examine the reciprocal relationships between the measured variables and those that could predict interaction practices between the 2 specialties. Results: First, results from the measurement model to examine the validity and reliability of the latent variables found (PC training, favorable perceptions about PC, institutional barriers, and ICU-PC interaction practices) and their indicators were obtained. Second, the structural model found that, a greater number of hours of PC training, a favorable perception of PC and a lower perception of institutional barriers are related to greater interaction between PC and ICU, particularly when emotional or family problems are detected. Conclusions: PC-ICU interactions are influenced by training, a positive perception of PC and less perceived institutional barriers. In real world several biological and environmental parameters in the predator-prey model vary in time. Thus, non-autonomous systems are important to be studied. We show the effectiveness of the method for autonomous and non-autonomous predator-prey systems. The method we have used is called the differential transformation method which has some suitable properties such as accuracy, low computational cost, easiness of implementation and simulation as well as preserving properties of the exact theoretical solution of the problem. Departamento de Ciencias; Matemáticas y AplicacionesDengue disease is a major problem for public health surveillance entities in tropical and subtropical regions having a significant impact not only epidemiological but social and economical. There are many factors involved in the dengue transmission process. We can evaluate the importance of these factors through the formulation of mathematical models. However, the majority of the models presented in the literature tend to be overparameterized, with considerable uncertainty levels and excessively complex formulations. We aim to evaluate the structure, complexity, trustworthiness, and suitability of three models, for the transmission of dengue disease, through different strategies. To achieve this goal, we perform structural and practical identifiability, sensitivity and uncertainty analyses to these models. The results showed that the simplest model was the most appropriate and reliable when the only available information to fit them is the cumulative number of reported dengue cases in an endemic municipality of Colombia. © 2020 Lizarralde-Bejarano et al.
