    IE-Riss: A computer tool for estimating earthquake losses in buildings

    A probabilistic formulation for evaluating loss exceedance rates associated to earthquake is presented. First, the usefulness of such models is exposed; later, it is presented the mathematical formulation of a Poissonian model which considers the uncertainty in variables such as: the earthquake magnitude, the ground motion intensity at basement rock, the ground motion intensity at surface level and the damage at the buildings. The results are summarized by the annual exceedance rates for a given level of loss. It could be obtained for only one building, for a group of buildings or for the whole set of affected buildings. At last, for an assumed portfolio where are considered different combinations of types of buildings, types of soils and geographic location, the loss exceedance rates are calculated. The results show how estimated losses could be strongly influenced for the location and the kind of the structural system of the buildings.

    Seguros paramétricos para la trasferencia del riesgo

    To date, in the municipality of Pereira, there have been approximately 148 emergencies due to natural phenomena or anthropic phenomena in different parts of the city, for which technical and legal attention must be provided to allow the determination of the affectations, to subsequently carry out psychosocial first aid procedures, granting of food and non-food humanitarian aid such as vouchers, shelter kits, toilet kits and rental subsidies by the Municipal Risk Management Directorate, all of the above seeking to correct or alleviate the situation lived by the affected people. It should be clarified that, in emergency situations, where homes are affected, due to their structural conditions, it is necessary for the technical staff to provide an evacuation concept and seek, in the first instance, to ensure the preservation and integrity of the lives of people abiding by the concept of the norm or direction that indicates the contingency. However, a second moment is necessary, which the main objective would be to guarantee the necessary conditions to build your home again, for which it is proposed to evaluate the implementation of parametric insurance for the transfer of risk derived from natural phenomena in the municipality. de Pereira through which coverage is guaranteed against catastrophic risks for the amount of the loss caused by the event, calculated by the model that is established, which will help to have a greater recovery.

    Vulnerabilidad intrínseca a la contaminación del Sistema Acuífero del Altiplano Nariñense aplicando el método GOD

    The capacity of an aquifer to be contaminated depends on its intrinsic properties, that is the possibility of substances entering on it, due to hydraulic properties of the overlying lithology. The main cause of contamination is given by anthropogenic activities on the surface. The Altiplano Nariñense Aquifer System (SAAN) is influenced by geomorphological features that allow the recharge of the system, from this, it was proposed that the infiltration of polluting loads is correlated with the topography. To estimate vulnerability, geological, hydrogeological information and water points sampled in 2005-2006 were collected, which allowed us to apply the GOD method that involves three parameters related to the type of aquifer, lithology of the unsaturated zone and depth of groundwater. Three of the five vulnerability indices proposed by this method were evident, associated to the classification “very low”, “medium” and “high”, where medium vulnerability predominates with 51.09% of the total area. Because the main use of land in the Altiplano Nariñense (AN) is for agriculture and this activity requires agrochemicals, there is a probability that these are the main contaminants, and it is also evident that a part of the surface water system has a high index of potential alteration of water quality and its interaction with the aquifer system would also contribute to the dispersion of contaminants. The result was compared with the vulnerability map with the land cover map in the AN, which indicates that 88.44% is destinated to agricultural territories.
