I build a quarterly panel for all 1,122 municipalities of Colombia covering 2010 through 2019, and estimate two-way fixed effects regressions to control for time and municipality invariant heterogeneity. I document three main findings. First, homicide rates are negatively correlated with access to credit. Second, property crime rates seem to be positively correlated with access to credit, though these estimates are less precise in some specifications. Finally, the presence of coca crops is negatively associated with access to credit and savings deposits, and positively associated with the share of risky microloans portfolios. These results add to a growing literature on the relationship between criminal activities and financial services.Ítem Estructuración y análisis de viabilidad financiera de un modelo de negocio para una fintech de créditos en Colombia(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Astudillo Alvarado, Yasmín Andrea; Valencia Serna, Fanny; Restrepo Tobón, Diego AlexánderThis paper presents the structuring and analysis of the financial viability of a business model for a credit Fintech in Colombia, using the canvas and some financial models that will help the organization and initiation of this project, include regulatory aspects and maximize the resources. Its purpose is to call for financial inclusion to entrepreneurs, self-employed workers and micro-enterprises in the granting of loans, due to the increasing difficulty of accessing formal banking, which forces them to look for informal lenders who handle high loan interest rates. “Access to financial services makes everyday life easier and helps families and businesses plan for everything from long-term goals to unforeseen emergencies” (World Bank, n.d.). It is thus intended, through the responsible use of financial services, to promote progress that generates growth and equity and helps combat poverty, fundamental requirements to produce dynamism in the economy, since their use leads to greater investment, increases the Colombian household income, generates economic and social development, and guarantees timely credits in an adequate manner for the weak sectors of the economy.Ítem Los modelos de negocio fintech y su aplicación a la generación de valor de las PYMES del sector de la construcción del municipio de Pereira, Risaralda(Universidad EAFIT, 2019) Castro Peñaloza, Bianey; Britto Cañas, Carlos Alberto; Callejas Parra, Viviana MarcelaÍtem Productos y servicios financieros a gran escala para la microempresa colombiana(Universidad EAFIT, 2005-10-15) Ossa Betancur, NicolásThis work is based on a previously proposed model by the author; this one aims to the possibility of selling financial products and services on great scale to the microenterprises by commercial banks. This model is also the result of a revision of some part of the available literature related to this subject and a personal contribution of the author. This model proposes that the great commercial banks are the ones called to sell financial products and services to the microenterprises on great scale, implementing microenterprise banking and penetrating this segment of the market or, as it is called in the international marketing slang, doing downscaling. In a previous work, a set of critical variables was identified and was also established the way how these variables must be defined in the commercialization of financial products and financial services to have a considerable increase in the probability of being viable and sustainable in the time. In this report, the second one of three reports related to this subject, the results corresponding to the pre-feasibility study for the project “Financial products and services on great scale for the colombian microenterprise” are analyzed, based on the proposed model and following the methodology for the study of projects of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).Ítem Productos y servicios financieros a gran escala para la microempresa: hacia un modelo viable(Universidad EAFIT, 2004-05-15) Ossa Betancur, NicolásThis work proposes a model by means of which the commercial banks can sell products and financial services on great scale to the microenterprise. The exposition of this model is the result of the revision of some part of literature available in relation to the subject and of a personal contribution. The model leaves from the base that it is the great commercial banking the one called to sell products and financial services on great scale to the microenterprise, implementing the microenterprise banking and penetrating this segment of market or, as it is said in international marketing slang, doing downscaling. A set of critical variables is identified and it is considered how they must be defined to considerably increase the probability that the product and financial services commercialization on great scale to the microenterprise is viable and sustainable in the time. Finally, the results corresponding to the Study of Opportunity for the project "Products and financial services on great scale for the Colombian microenterprise", are analyzed based on the proposed model and following the methodology for the study of projects of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).Ítem Sector bancario y coyuntura económica.(Universidad EAFIT, 2002-04-15) Jaramillo, Alberto; Serrano Dominguez, Ana ConsueloContinuando con la línea de investigación de la política coyuntural de la empresa, se busca realizar un estudio del sector bancario colombiano.
