Ítem Capacidad tecnológica de la industria nacional para la fabricación de componentes estructurales de trenes(Universidad EAFIT, 2013) Méndez Zuluaga, Andrés Felipe; Betancur Giraldo, Germán RenéÍtem Detection of structural damage and estimation of reliability using a multidimensional monitoring approach(SAGE PUBLICATIONS LTD, 2018-04-01) Ortiz J.O.; Betancur G.R.; Gómez J.; Castañeda L.F.; Zajsc G.; Gutiérrez-Carvajal R.E.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)Many structural elements are exposed to load conditions that are difficult to model during the design phase, such as environmental uncertainties, random impacts, and overloading, amongst others, thus increasing unprogrammed maintenance and reducing confidence in the reliability of the structure in question. One way to deal with this problem is to monitor the structural condition of the element. This approach requires supervising several signals coming from critical locations and then performing an accurate condition estimation of the element in question based on the data collected. This study implements a method to diagnose and evaluate the reliability of the bolster beam structure of the railway vehicle during a fatigue test. The results show that multidimensional monitoring not only diagnoses the element accurately but also results in correct estimation of reliability. © 2017, © IMechE 2017.Ítem Estado de la técnica relacionado con elementos estructurales de bastidores de trenes(Universidad EAFIT, 2013) Espinosa Zúñiga, Luis Fernando; Betancur Giraldo, Germán RenéÍtem Estudio de prefactibilidad para el desarrollo de un sistema férreo entre Medellín y el Urabá antioqueño(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Hernández Alemán, Santiago; Cardona Valencia, Alejandro; Henao Arango, María CeciliaThe prefeasibility study for the development of a rail system between Medellin and Urabá, it's a proposal that arises from the need to optimize costs, times and security risks of passengers and cargo transportation between the coast and the center of the country; which is based on the short and medium-term projection, of the re-invigoration of the port infrastructure in the Gulf of Urabá -- This work aims at providing criteria that allows making correct decisions at early stages of the project, regarding the investment of new resources in future phases -- To achieve this objective, guidelines from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), will be taken as a reference -- This academic exercise, will take elements of the pre-investment, investment and operation phases, in order to have an extensive point of view of what will be the execution of the project in its development cycle -- This work will be divided into five sections, where the activities that will be developed in each of them, have a common and specific purpose -- By examining the results of these activities jointly, the data will be consolidated, and therefore taking an secure investment positionÍtem A fractional Fourier transform-based method to detect impacts between the bogie and the car body of a railway vehicle: A data-driven approach(SAGE PUBLICATIONS LTD, 2018-01-01) Gutierrez-Carvajal, R. E.; Betancur, German R.; Castaneda, Leonel F.; Zajac, G.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)Structural railway transport elements are typically designed to work for at least 30 years without undergoing major maintenance. However, real-life operational conditions present behaviors different to the model predicted during the initial design phase, which affects the lifetime of the elements in question. This is the case of first-generation railway vehicles which operates in the city of Medellín, Colombia, as the bolster beam presented cracks after 12 years of operation, possibly due to undesired impacts between the bogie and the pivot of the bolster beam. Monitoring vibrational signals would give some sort of an insight into impact phenomena; however, herein lies the problem, as they are difficult to identify using only vibration signals, occurring during time events that take place in a speed-varying system. In this article, the authors present a technique that automatically detects impacts using multiple in-between time/frequency representations, ranking them according to their capacity to discriminate between impact events. Our results show that the best representation for this data was the Fractional Cepstrum Transform at order 0.5 (auROC = 0.961), which outperformed the best pure domain descriptor by least 4%. © 2016, © IMechE 2016.Ítem Full scale fatigue test performed to the bolster beam of a railway vehicle(Springer-Verlag France, 2018-02-01) Gutiérrez-Carvajal, R.E.; Betancur, G.R.; Barbosa, J.; Castañeda, L.F.; Zaja¸c, G.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)Many structural elements are exposed to conditions of load that are difficult to consider during the design stage, such as environment uncertainties, random impacts, overloads and inherent material idealization amongst others, hence, miss-estimating its life-time cycle. One way to test those designs is to construct a representative full-scale specimen and test it under the most critical load conditions in a controlled laboratory. Herein, we present a case of study of the fatigue test performed over a bolster beam redesigned in Universidad EAFIT belonging to a railway vehicle. The test was composed by three stages, each one testing a different load hypothesis. The bolster beam was instrumented at the most critical locations, following the results of a FEM analysis previously computed. As results, the most critical welds were identified and the total damage computed for an equivalent operation of eighteen-years, and also the behaviour of the specimen in presence of extreme longitudinal loads. © 2016, Springer-Verlag France.Ítem Full scale fatigue test performed to the bolster beam of a railway vehicle(Springer-Verlag France, 2018-02-01) Gutiérrez-Carvajal, R.E.; Betancur, G.R.; Barbosa, J.; Castañeda, L.F.; Zaja¸c, G.; Gutiérrez-Carvajal, R.E.; Betancur, G.R.; Barbosa, J.; Castañeda, L.F.; Zaja¸c, G.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)This article describes a measurement method whit strain gages, which allows measure the vertical force independently of the lateral force in the wheel - Track interface of a railway. It also shows the obtained results from the implementation of this method to measure the forces in a commercial railway of the railway system. © JVE International Ltd.Ítem La Promesa continuación del folleto titulado Mister Swan(Bogotá : Imprenta Medardo Rivas, 1888, 1888) Cámara Provincial de Bogotá; EmporosÍtem A study of the effect of the transition curve in the coupling elements between the carbody and the bogie(INDERSCIENCE ENTERPRISES LTD, 2014-01-01) Martinod, Ronald M.; Betancur, German R.; Osorio, Jose F.; Castaneda, Leonel F.; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Estudios en Mantenimiento (GEMI)This work describes an analysis of the effect of the transition curves in the coupling elements between the carbody and the bogie, by means of recorded variables under commercial operation conditions of a railway vehicle. A set of field tests are developed and applied to the railway system as a basis to validate a numerical model. The dataset is obtained from a numerical model based on the multi-body systems theory using a transient method. The study focuses on the dynamic evaluation of the vehicle to determine the transversal dynamic effect generated by the circulation in the transition curve sections, especially in curves with short radius. The work includes a case study of a passenger railway, and it is used to identify aspects of the railway system that could be improved by the operators, such as inspection routines, rail track design and elements subjected to considerable loads.
