The main goal of this study was to investigate the association between tombstone cost and life expectancy in a large cemetery in Latin America. Age at death was obtained from 2,273 consecutive death certificates held at the San Pedro Cemetery Museum in Medellín, Colombia. Subjects died between 2020 and 2022. Tombs are arranged in galleries in the cemetery, and tombstone cost is based on the material from which the tombstone was made its position in the gallery, and its ornamentation. Approximately 76% of the tombstones were low cost, 16% medium cost, and 8% high cost. Analysis of variance was used, and the assumption of equal variance was not violated. Because the data did not show a normal distribution, it was necessary to apply non-parametric techniques to assess statistical differences. The Kruskal-Wallis's test was employed for this purpose. Longevity was similar in the low-cost group and medium-cost group: 61.5±23.9 versus 61.6±24.6 years [estimated mean (95% confidence interval)]. Longevity was lower in the high-cost group: 55.8±25.8 years. The inverse association between tombstone cost and longevity would suggest that people in Medellín are inclined to spend more on tombstones when commemorating the tragic death of a young person.Ítem Estudio de caso: variaciones de las primas de seguros Sura Colombia, producto de las experiencias que viven los clientes con el servicio durante el proceso de reclamación de la póliza de autos(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Parra Giraldo, María Antonia; Cano Zuleta, Paula Andrea; Uribe de Correa, Beatriz AmparoThe main idea of this thesis is to generate statistical and econometric models that explain the variations of SURA´s Insurance premiums as a result of the clients´ satisfaction with the service experience during the claim process of the automobile policy and the socioeconomic and demographic conditions of the customers independently if they have made claims for an accidents or not -- The results of surveys made by Seguros SURA during the claim process of 2015 to a random number of customers from Antioquia, Centro, Cafetero, Occidente and Norte region, were taken as an input as well as the socioeconomic and demographic data of the customers who have not made a claim -- The data was used to analyze the degree of the clients´ satisfaction in each stage of the claim process and the relation between their socioeconomic and demographic characteristics with the premium paid -- These results of the survey were included in multiple regression models as explanatory variables of the 2016 premium variations -- The result of this research confirms that managers should focus their efforts on increasing the quality of the claim process, optimize the definition of the requirements requested to perform the claim, enhance the customer service quality in the workshop and improve the complaint process quality, since they are the key links during the claim process and are those that maximize the value of car policies premiums -- On the other hand it was identified that SURA should focus its attention on male clients between the ages of 26 to 45 years old with incomes greater than 5 SMLV of the Antioquia region, with an education degree from high school to professionalization since they are the clients with the greatest potential of investment in car policiesÍtem Planes de expansión del comercio minorista: un acercamiento desde la analítica, grandes conjuntos de datos e información de transacciones financieras(Universidad EAFIT, 2018) Gutiérrez Barrera, Carlos Antonio; Ospina Arango, Juan DavidThe physical expansion of retail companies is a matter that could condition the sustainability over time of these companies -- However, the lack of information makes it difficult to choose the optimal location of the new points of sale -- Through the use of financial big data a methodology is developed to estimate the demographic compatibility between commercial companies and shopping centers, which also allows measuring the aggregate performance of commercial companies and their different establishments -- This methodology has the potential to meet the growing need for information that business managers have to locate their new points of sale
