Ítem An academic design methodology for electrical mobility products - from necessity to functional prototype(2011-09-09) Osorio Gómez, Gilberto; Mejía Gutiérrez, Ricardo; Sierra Zuluaga, Luis Fernando; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Luis Fernando Sierra (lsierraz@eafit.edu.co); Ricardo Mejia (rmejiag@eafit.edu.co); Gilberto Osorio (gosoriog@eafit.edu.co); Ingeniería de Diseño - GRIDThe undergraduate program in Product Design Engineering at EAFIT University-Colombia, includes an applied project course during eight semesters with different topics -- Students attend their last project course in seventh and eighth semester integrated into one year topic -- In this project, they have to design a new high-tech consumer product in electrical mobility for different types of transportation need and to construct a completely functional prototype -- The objectives of these courses are to focus on the triad of “Product-User-Context” as well as to foster design, engineering, manufacturing, management and entrepreneurship skills -- In order to offer a systematic way of working, and to obtain better results, a systematic design methodology has been adopted, adapted and applied during the whole product development process in order to facilitate representation, analysis, calculation, management and control of the information related to the product -- The methodology is broadly explained through activities, tools, information and results related to four main stages: 1) Need research & problem statement, 2) Conceptual design, 3) Detailed design and 4) Prototype construction & testing -- A successful case study is presented following all the stages of the presented methodology for the development of an Electric Power-Assisted BicycleÍtem Complejidad, Sostenibilidad y Tecnología: Un enfoque integrador para el desarrollo de proyectos académicos en ingeniería de diseño(2011-08-05) Mejía Gutiérrez, Ricardo; Osorio Gómez, Gilberto; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ricardo Mejia (rmejiag@eafit.edu.co); Gilberto Osorio (gosoriog@eafit.edu.co); Ingeniería de Diseño - GRIDThe materialization of design projects has demonstrated to be a key factor for the evaluation of new ideas -- In this field, the Department of Product Design Engineering from EAFIT University has been pioneer in Colombia -- In order to take this process to a new level, an integrated approach has been proposed oriented to the design and development of sustainable transport value added products, particularly in the field of electric mobility, where transport systems complexity is combined with the need of developing sustainable products, together with the use of technologies in the area of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). It is presented the adopted methodology for development of this kind of projects at academic level, detailing main activities and tools, and describing a successful case study for the design of a functional prototype of an electric bicycle, in order to demonstrate the findings and experiences obtained in this kind of implementations that, in the future, will be translated into trained engineers on advanced product development, as well as to raise industrial awareness in the subjectÍtem Design of an electrical power assist kit for manual wheelchair under the conditions of developing countries(2013-06-24) Mejía Gutiérrez, Ricardo; Zuluaga Holguín, Daniel; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ricardo Mejia (rmejiag@eafit.edu.co); Daniel Zuluaga (dzulua19@eafit.edu.co); Ingeniería de Diseño - GRIDElectric mobility has become an important issue worldwide; proof of this is that all the transportation areas are tending towards a green approach for their business by using renewable energies -- In parallel form, mobility for disabled people is a global concern right now, specifically how to improve the independency and raise the standard of living of people in this situation -- Electric mobility solutions have provided an important advance in the independency of patients -- However, as occurs with emerging technologies the price is quite high, especially for developing countries such as Colombia -- This work presents the design of an electric power kit for manual wheelchair, with the aim of making it adaptable for different wheelchair brands available in the Colombian marketÍtem Estudio de prefactibilidad de una flota de taxis eléctricos como una nueva unidad de negocio para la empresa IGO S.A.(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) García Osorno, Alejandro; Uribe de Correa, Beatriz Amparo; Salazar Gómez, Francisco JavierThis is the prefeasibility assessment of a business unit for the company IGO S.A. of a fleet of electric taxis operating in the city of Medellín where the operational and financial viability of this project is evaluated through environmental and sector studies, market study, technical study, administrative study, legal study and finally a financial evaluation. The studies were supported by a descriptive and deductive methodology where, through research on the current market situation and technology evolution, it is possible to deduce different aspects about the environment and its implication in the proposed business unit. All this in order to find a new field of action for the company IGO S.A. where it can continue to develop economically in order to transcend the auto spare parts business where the market has begun to shrink due to the appearance of electric vehicles lacking wear parts. In conclusion, the proposed model is a business unit where the resources of the existing company are used, with the technical size of ten electric vehicles acquired over 5 years and the market defined in the city of Medellín in this study of prefeasibility is not financially viable due to the evaluated time horizon and the small size of the project, avoiding achieving economies of scale.Ítem Implementation of conceptual validation of product mock ups with augmented reality(2012) Osorio Gómez, Gilberto; Mejía Gutiérrez, Ricardo; Ríos Zapata, David; Universidad EAFIT. Departamento de Ingeniería de Diseño; Ricardo Mejia (rmejiag@eafit.edu.co); Gilberto Osorio (gosoriog@eafit.edu.co); David Rios (drioszap@eafit.edu.co); Ingeniería de Diseño (GRID)The implementation of computational aids in product design is a demand in the design processes on century XXI, that because they allow an increase in quality and creativity of the deliverables of a design process -- But this implementation should be guided to an academic process, where technologies methodologies work along -- This article presents the results of an implementation of virtual reality techniques to validate and increased product design courses within the undergraduate electrical mobility in Product Design Engineering at that universityÍtem Integrated design and development of complex systems under a PLM approach: a sustainable transportation system case study(2012) Osorio Gómez, Gilberto; Mejía Gutiérrez, Ricardo; Universidad EAFIT. In 2017, Colciencias launched call 778, giving rise to the Energy Alliance 2030 (E2030), led by the National University of Colombia. This alliance seeks to transform the Colombian energy sector by 2030 through Research, Development, and Innovation (R+D+i) programs. Project P3, part of E2030, focuses on Electric Mobility as a sustainable and multimodal alternative, addressing motorcycle hybridization, electric boat development, and the construction of a solar charging station and multimodal planning models. Implementation focuses on intermediate cities such as Magangué and Sincelejo. This master's project arises in response to identified barriers in the implementation of energy projects, especially in the social sphere. Literature review reveals obstacles such as lack of planning, social issues, and deficiencies in technological adoption. The work focuses on developing a comprehensive model to evaluate renewable energy generation projects from technical, economic, social, and environmental perspectives. The proposed methodology includes analysis of existing methodologies, integration of best practices, and application of a multidimensional model to the photovoltaic charging station of Project P3. It is expected that this approach will provide a comprehensive view of the viability of similar projects, reducing the risk of non-adoption or interruption.
