Publicación Prefactibilidad para la introducción del cultivo de café robusta en Antioquia. Caso de estudio : en el municipio de Vegachí(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Salazar Ramírez, Oskar Alejandro; Gómez Salazar, Elkin ArcesioThis research project examines the prefeasibility of introducing Robusta coffee cultivation in the department of Antioquia, using the municipality of Vegachí as a case study. Its primary objective is to determine whether this crop offers a viable alternative to the structural challenges faced by traditional Arabica-based coffee farming such as climate change, low productivity in low-altitude areas, aging plantations, and reliance on imported Robusta to meet national industry demand. Using the UNIDO methodology, eight studies were conducted −sectoral, market, technical, legal, environmental, organizational, financial, and risk analysis− each providing an integrated evaluation of factors affecting crop viability, from regulatory and environmental frameworks to market behavior and institutional capacity. Vegachí serves as the pilot zone, selected in the technical study for its agroclimatic and geographic conditions, and is used to compare coffee-renewal scenarios: maintaining Arabica versus transitioning to Robusta. The findings from the financial and risk studies will be extrapolated to other regions of Antioquia with similar characteristics. This approach aims to furnish analytical tools for public and private decision-making focused on coffee diversification, strengthening the national industry, and promoting rural development in Antioquia.
