    Empoderamiento
(Universidad EAFIT, 2009) Botero Soto, Juan Fernando
We are living in a highly competitive and innovative world in which consumers are increasingly demanding and better informed. This has driven organizations to constantly strive to be better at what they do in order to improve their position in the market, and be sustainable over time. As a tool for supporting companies’ efforts, academics and other experts frequently propose different managerial theories of continuous improvement, on topics such as empowerment, which may help companies to increase their competitiveness. It is quite common to find contradictions between managerial theory and its practical implementation within companies. This difficulty can be primarily explained by certain human aspects that are seldom considered to be part of the theories themselves, as models are usually designed for completely logical environments that do not incorporate human behavioral and psicological variables such as diverse or changing interests and points of view.

This degree work focuses on examining the impact of the Dual Vocational Training Model at Globant in Colombia, a technology-based company. Dual Vocational Training is an approach that combines theoretical teaching in academic institutions with practical training in companies. The study specifically seeks to show how this model has impacted the organization’s learning and productivity. In this case, organizational learning has been understood by Peter Senge, who has defined it as: the capacity of an organization to create, acquire, transfer knowledge and modify its behavior (2010). It is recognized that, although the dual model has a high impact on employability, its application in technological sectors with dynamic knowledge presents challenges, exacerbated in the Colombian context by aspects such as curriculum design, policies and incentives. Using a qualitative methodology, the perceptions, opinions, experiences and learning of the trainees and tutors who have participated in this training were analyzed. Finally, the study revealed that practical learning in a real work environment is more useful and effective than pure theory, ensuring the applicability of the knowledge acquired by the trainees and in turn generating a high impact on personal mastery and a medium-high impact on the mental models of the participants, fostering empowerment, self-management and a shift towards a contextualized and experiential learning approach.

La toma de decisiones vista como un proceso de aprendizaje para los directivos de primer nivel en PYMES del Valle de Aburrá
(Universidad EAFIT, 2011) Hoyos Eusse, Juan José; Parra Ramírez, Rubén Darío
This paper relates to decision making as a learning process whiting the PYMES in the Aburrá Valley. It initiated by searching all through the Schutz A action concept. Then throughout the action – decision concept from Parra D and finally by bearing in mind the learning process by Senge P. Additionally, the Velez’s learning concept was considered as means of the decision making process, in which the learning process comes from the principle of altering knowledge, attitude and the interpretation of reality from who is performing an action. However these learning processes that offer knowledge and experiences to those decision makers could embrace “tricks” which in the end will conduct to slanted or wrong decisions. Finally an exploratory work about decision making among first level administrators in the Aburrá Valley PYMES was completed. Semi structured interviews were conducted to those administrators in order to be acquainted with aspects such as experience, approaches for decision making and future decision making. Conclusions are presented in the last part.
