    Análisis de la relación entre la orientación social y ambiental y el desempeño financiero de las empresas en el mercado latinoamericano

    This study examines the relationship between environmental and social orientation and financial performance in companies from the Latin American Integrated Market (MILA) in 2023. Using textual analysis of 95 annual report CEO letters and financial data from Economática, social and environmental orientation was quantified via Moss et al.’s (2018) dictionary. The results revealed no statistically significant correlations between the socio-environmental variables and financial metrics, though weak trends emerged: negative coefficients for the environmental dimension and positive ones for the social dimension. Traditional factors like leverage and firm size were found to be strong predictors of financial performance. These findings underscore the complexity of linking ESG practices to profitability in emerging markets, where conventional financial drivers still prevail. The study contributes evidence to inform better ESG communication strategies and suggests that future research should integrate verified ESG metrics and longitudinal approaches to more fully capture these dynamics.

    Diseño de un observatorio ciudadano ambiental, con enfoque de gobernanza participativa para fortalecer la gestión integral de residuos sólidos en el municipio de Tauramena, Casanare

    This project addresses the structural weaknesses in integrated solid waste management in the municipality of Tauramena, Casanare, Colombia. Despite the existence of a formal waste collection system, low recovery rates (approximately 22%), the presence of 12 critical dumping sites, limited environmental awareness, and weak interinstitutional coordination reveal deficiencies in environmental governance. The central problem lies in the absence of a participatory mechanism capable of articulating stakeholders, generating reliable local data, and promoting shared responsibility in waste management. A qualitative research design with an exploratory-descriptive scope was adopted to understand social dynamics, perceptions, and institutional conditions influencing waste management practices. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with key actors, including public officials, community leaders, recyclers, waste generators, and representatives from the education sector. Direct field observation and a comparative analysis of eight national and international environmental observatories complemented the study. Thematic content analysis and methodological triangulation were applied to ensure validity and contextual understanding. The main outcome of the research is the design of the Participatory Citizen Environmental Observatory of Tauramena (OCAPTA), conceived as a governance tool integrating an organizational structure, an environmental indicator system, community monitoring nodes, information flows, and phased implementation strategies. The proposal aims to strengthen transparency, citizen participation, environmental education, and evidence-based public decision-making, contributing to sustainable territorial management aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

    Investigar, publicar y divulgar. Ciencia en infografías recoge más de 50 investigaciones llevadas a cabo por investigadores de la Universidad EAFIT, que fueron publicadas en revistas especializadas y libros resultado de investigación. Cada una de las infografías es producto del trabajo hecho durante seis meses, en los cuales la capacidad de análisis, el tratamiento riguroso de la información, la creatividad y el esfuerzo en los procesos de síntesis fueron primordiales; así como la colaboración entre investigadores y comunicadores para mantener el rigor científico, llegar a acuerdos sobre conceptos que debían convertirse en gráficos y adecuar el uso del lenguaje para diferentes medios y formatos. Por eso, se extiende un agradecimiento especial a todos los científicos que estuvieron disponibles para revisar, corregir y proponer desde su experticia.
