This study analyzes tourism as an alternative for sustainable development in the municipality of Tauramena, Casanare, a region historically reliant on the extractive sector. Using a qualitative case study approach with a phenomenological focus, the research explored the perceptions of key stakeholders, public officials and former officials, tourist site owners, and community leaders, regarding sustainable tourism from environmental, economic, and sociocultural dimensions. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the analysis was guided by Jafari’s (2005) theoretical platforms and Rosales’s (2024) sustainability principles. Findings reveal an emerging tourism dynamic driven by local actors, with strong natural and cultural assets, yet constrained by the lack of planning, formalization, and institutional coordination. Shared opportunities, tensions, and challenges were identified, leading to the design of a territorially grounded sustainable tourism proposal, focused on participatory governance, cultural identity strengthening, and system formalization. The study concludes that Tauramena holds strong potential to consolidate a sustainable tourism model if local capacities are integrated with structured public policies and intersectoral coordination. Factores de permanencia estudiantil en programas de pregrado : análisis del programa “Beca Talento” de la Fundación Fondecor
(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Banoy Ferreira, Claudia Ligia; Montes Gutiérrez, Isabel Cristina
This study analyzes how the Beca Talento program of the Fundación Fondecor has either supported or limited the factors that influence the university retention of young students from the department of La Guajira. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved an in-depth analysis of the experiences of 27 scholarship recipients through semi-structured interviews and open-ended survey responses. The collected data was processed using a coding system within Atlas.ti software. The findings were organized into five analytical components: psycho-affective, socio-contextual, academic, institutional, and coping and self-regulation. The study identified both positive and negative factors influencing persistence in higher education, including family and community support, socioeconomic conditions, academic trajectories, the presence or absence of institutional support, and individual coping and emotional self-regulation strategies. The results highlight the scholarship’s role not only as financial aid but also as a mechanism for social transformation. The study concludes that the program significantly contributes to building sustainable life projects in contexts of high vulnerability, although it must be strengthened in areas such as psychosocial and institutional support. This research offers tools for designing more inclusive and sustainable educational policies in regions facing structural challenges.

Pegantes sociales para el desarrollo local : elementos para la construcción de los territorios de Antioquia
(Universidad EAFIT, 2021) Quintero Gómez, Alveiro Enrique; Montoya Corrales, Carlos Alberto; SVAIT SAS
Convinced that it is impossible to be a true Agent of Development without theory, and that local and regional development constitutes a reality that now lacks a unified theoretical corpus, the possibility of offering a guide that encourages reflection and practice of the development of a territory such as Antioquia, would seek to find possible foundations in the contributions given by classical and neoclassical theories, as well alternative development theories. Hence the importance given to the review of its main proposals and approaches, which have made it possible to identify analytical categories, concepts, and key propositions, which feed reflection on local and regional development, and to identify the called Social Glue that support the case of the Department of Antioquia as a potentially successful reality in terms of regional development. That review would allow to highlight the prominence acquired by the new theoretical approaches, which are characterized by a new unit of reference on development, territories, its integral conception, the consultation of various dimensions of development: social, environmental, institutional and human, while it became involved with outstanding problems associated with the lack of development: unsatisfied needs, inequalities, high levels of unemployment, poverty and hunger, aspects that allowed adopting the concept of endogenous development as an analytical reference to address the problem territorial development. Based on the use of its own analytical categories, concepts, propositions and proposals for the treatment of local and regional realities, the research accommodates in the endogenous territorial development, conceptual and theoretical support for the development proposal based on Social Glue. The context for introducing progress in Colombia’s case was the revision of the 1991 Political Constitution, which provides significant institutional development and has become a determining factor in political, economic, and social transformation processes that revitalize the territories. Likewise, we were able to make a balance of the country in the last 30 years. These advances were to materialize in strategic planning efforts in the region, which provides us with three outstanding experiences: PLANEA, the Subregional Strategic Plans and the Special Districts, in which the five triggers for development in the territory are evidenced, described in the final part of the text, and from which the fundamental elements -Social Glue- of the development of Antioquia and its subregions would be extracted. The Social Glue was approached from the conceptual definition, their understanding and relevance, the level of empowerment and internalization in the planning experiences and the way in which they support the advances of transformation of the territories of Antioquia. With this we hope to contribute to the reflections on territorial development, offering lines of action the different development actors, public and private, can channel their efforts and allow the unveiling of new contents that strengthen the planning processes and the design of public policies in favor of a comprehensive development of the department.

Sistematización de experiencias de la corporación Carabantú : una visión desde el desarrollo local, la innovación y transformación social
(Universidad EAFIT, 2023) Mosquera Lemus, Anderson de Jesús; García Sánchez, Andrés
The main purpose of this research is to systematize the experiences within the framework of the Kunta Kinte International Film Festival of the Carabantú Corporation in order to learn about its contribution to local development and to the innovation and social transformation of the Afro-descendant population of the city of Medellín. A research with a qualitative approach, integral hermeneutic scope, was carried out through the hypothetical-deductive method, based on the systematization of experiences and the collection of information through the application of semi-structured interviews to seven actors involved in the process carried out by the Corporation, including one of its founders. From the results referenced in this research, it is concluded that the experiences of the Carabantú Corporation throughout its history have contributed to the vindication of the Afro-descendant population of the city of Medellin, along with the recognition and dignification of their fundamental rights; all this, through ethno-educational projects based on film and its Afro-community film festival that has been held in recent years, with the audiovisual products made by the participants of these projects. Likewise, although some social problems still persist, its contributions to local development and social innovation are represented in the collaborative work with other social organizations and with different public entities, with which it has managed to strengthen the institutional framework for the benefit of this population, for the improvement of their quality of life and the strengthening of their collective memory.

University social responsibility or social extension? Elements for an analysis of universities social commitment
(Universidad EAFIT, 2020-10) Navarro-Florez, Olga; Rodríguez, Paula Lorena; Sánchez, Luis Hernando; Université du Québec à Montréal-UQÀM; Universidad de Ibagué; Université du Québec à Montréal-UQÀM
In the year 2008, the University of Ibagué launched several initiatives to articulate higher education with local development. The Programa Paz y Región (Peace and Region Program) is one of those initiatives and it is the focus of this article, whose purpose is to analyse this program in the light of two related concepts: university extension programmes and social responsibility (SR). Our analysis is based on a managerial perspective and our hypothesis is that “Paz y Región” responds to regional development in Tolima, Colombia, from a co-constructed perspective of extension programmes.
