A qualitative design with five riders (20–35 years) used semi-structured interviews (in-person/online, ~20 min), audio recordings, field notes, and informed consent. Thematic analysis drew on frustration theory and coping typologies as analytic lenses. Findings indicate primary frustration (effort not reflected in outcomes) and secondary frustration (execution obstacles), with external, internal, and shared attributions (rider–horse teamwork). The three-day format heightens pressure and requires immediate emotion regulation; technical errors mainly affect short-term execution; contextual factors (horse condition, environment) can intensify frustration. Active coping predominated (error identification, training adjustments, enjoyment-focused reframing). Performance outcomes included greater motivation and learning supporting future success, momentary drops without lasting effects, and withdrawal urges tempered by passion and the bond with the horse. The need for psychological support is underscored. Limitations: small sample, limited timeframe, and scarce specific literature. Conclusion: active frustration management helps sustain dyadic performance.
