Publicación Influencia de los directores externos en la continuidad de las empresas familiares colombianas(Universidad EAFIT, 2025) Cano Cossio, Ana Lucía; Correa Agudelo, Mariana; mcorre30@eafit.edu.coThis study seeks to identify the influence of outside directors on the continuity of third-generation and beyond family businesses in Colombia through an exploratory qualitative research. The study was conducted in three stages: i) review of the academic literature, which allowed for the contextualization of key concepts related to corporate governance, continuity, and professionalization in family businesses; ii) data collection through fifteen semi-structured interviews in three third-generation and beyond Colombian family businesses, all with external general management. Five strategic roles were interviewed in each interview: manager, chair of the board of directors, family leader, senior shareholder, and next-generation shareholder; and iii) interpretive analysis of the findings, aimed at identifying patterns, tensions, and key lessons learned about the role of outside directors in this area. The study contributes to the field of corporate governance in family businesses and offers useful tools for entrepreneurs, managers, and consultants interested in the topic.
