Departamento de Administración; Administración y OrganizacionesNormally the decision to implement investment projects in companies has an orientation toward a goal: prioritization of technical/financial (profit maximization or cost minimization), although there are other important objectives for the company. In this case, it is assumed that the other objectives are implied in the central objective. Because of this, objectives leading to non-profitable goals are often underestimated (such as managerial, coordinating, organizational, human, cultural, among others), which often leads to mistakes in the implementation stage of projects. In Knowledge Management (KM) Projects something similar can occur since important aspects can be ignored and this can help avoiding mistakes in their execution. Thus, some authors believe that when it comes to decision-making processes with different objectives, centralized tools or techniques on a single target are not the most relevant. Because of this, since the nineteen seventies, decision-making tools under multi objective or multi criteria approach have been developed. These tools allow a broader and comprehensive decision-making process in companies. In this sense, this paper proposes a methodology for guiding multi criteria decision-making processes to support the implementation of KM projects in companies. The method considers the stages of a decision-making process, besides the usage of multi objective analysis techniques. The proposed methodology gives a comprehensive view of decision-making, using qualitative and quantitative tools to support the implementation of KM projects in companies. Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas; I+D+I en Tecnologías de la Información y las ComunicacionesThis paper presents the mantisGRID project, an interinstitutional initiative from Colombian medical and academic centers aiming to provide medical grid services for Colombia and Latin America. The mantisGRID is a GRID platform, based on open source grid infrastructure that provides the necessary services to access and exchange medical images and associated information following digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) and health level 7 standards. The paper focuses first on the data abstraction architecture, which is achieved via Open Grid Services Architecture Data Access and Integration (OGSA-DAI) services and supported by the Globus Toolkit. The grid currently uses a 30-Mb bandwidth of the Colombian High Technology Academic Network, RENATA, connected to Internet 2. It also includes a discussion on the relational database created to handle the DICOM objects that were represented using Extensible Markup Language Schema documents, as well as other features implemented such as data security, user authentication, and patient confidentiality. Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica; Mecánica AplicadaThis article presents theoretical and computational studies with Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) tools of an Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), required to obtain reliable visual information, used for surveillance and maintenance of ship shells and underwater structures of Colombian port facilities. The thrust force is analyzed at the operational conditions by using CFD tools (FLUENT™, CFX™, COSMOSFLOW™) and the information about forces, torques and power of the vehicle's thrusters is obtained. The commercial propellers were modeled by using a reverse engineering process with a 3D scanner and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (RAPIDFORM™). The results obtained with the CFD package allowed to evaluate several operating scenarios of the vehicle that are used for feedback purposes in the design process of the ROV before it be manufactured. Departamento de Ciencias Básicas; Óptica AplicadaOptically indistinguishable copies of 3D real objects or holograms are known to be suitable to replace exhibited artistic pieces in museums. In this paper, we discuss holography as an alternative to protect, share and preserve finely crafted gold pieces belonging to the indigenous treasure inherited by Colombians. We present high diffraction efficiency monocolor and color holograms of native goldwork. As reference objects and proof of concept, we use replicas of the renowned and emblematic Poporo Quimbaya, pre-Hispanic gold pendants and anthropomorphic gold pieces. We report experimental details to deal with different types of commercial holographic recording materials, as for example, PFG-03M and PFG- 03C silver halides or C-RT20 photopolymers. And its general feasibility for reproducing high-quality holograms suitable for museum exhibitions or traveling art-collections. Copyright © 2018 SPIE. This article shows the main findings and up-to-date case studies about the implementation of Total Productivity Management in Colombia, which were found in research projects at Universidad EAFIT from 2003 until today. The questions addressed in this paper are: Was TPM established in Colombian companies as a current administration and management trend? What are the main obstacles in the implementation of TPM?
