Publicación La inclusión financiera como fuente de ventaja competitiva : un estudio cualitativo del ecosistema Fintech colombiano desde la perspectiva directiva (2018–2025)(Universidad EAFIT, 2026-02-16) Ujueta Salas, Breiner Arturo; González-Pérez, María AlejandraFintech companies, which integrate finance and technology, have established themselves since the 2010s and particularly since 2015, according to the literature as a growing sector with the potential to expand financial inclusion among marginalized populations. However, debate persists over whether this progress reflects genuine inclusion or merely indicators of digitalization. According to Jay Barney’s Resource-Based Theory, sustained competitive advantage does not depend on technology or capital, but rather on the ability to mobilize valuable, rare, inimitable, and non-substitutable resources, along with managerial capabilities that allow for their strategic exploitation. Through a qualitative case study of the Colombian Fintech ecosystem, we identified that financial inclusion goes beyond basic access to credit and savings products for traditionally excluded populations and requires their effective and sustained use. Likewise, we found that the competitive differentiation among companies in the ecosystem stems from intangibles mobilized by management teams, such as a strategic vision for human talent, the incorporation of user financial education into operational management, and the ability to transform regulatory barriers into opportunities for innovation—all of which provide insights for rethinking the relationship between strategy, technology, and inclusion in emerging contexts.
