There are many more psychotherapy models than most people can experience in their lifetimes, each with postulates, intervention methods, and techniques that can differ dramatically. Certain models are especially effective for the intervention of specific issues, and some factors are known to influence procedural persistence and therapeutic success. However, it is unknown if the users' personality traits can mediate the adherence and effectiveness of a psychotherapy model. In this regard, the present research aims to determine the relationship between the personality traits of psychotherapy users who live in Antioquia and the psychotherapy model where they feel more affinity regarding adherence and effectiveness. The above is done through a non-experimental, phenomenological, cross-sectional design, with a qualitative approach and an essentially descriptive scope, applied to a sample of adult psychotherapy users who have experienced at least one therapy process consisting of at least five sessions. In conclusion, the interaction between user and therapist impacts the adherence and effectiveness of psychotherapy more than the relationship between personality traits and the technicalities surrounding the distinction between the models.
