Access to knowledge plays a fundamental role in incentivizing economic growth, stimulating creativity, and promoting innovation. This is especially important for developing countries, like Colombia. This thesis explores the relevance of intellectual property (IP) rights in society, highlighting their impact on areas such as health, food security, education, and traditional knowledge. Acknowledging the current context of digitalization and the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), this thesis focuses on the need for legislative progress in Colombia that reaches an appropriate balance between the protection of IP rights and the implementation of exceptions and limitations that adequately respond to the rapid technological advancements
