A possible definition of the manager, following theintroduction, is required to describe the transition, particularly important in Antioquia, fromthe entrepreneur to the manager. The relationships between the manager and the economicenvironment and the characterization of the managerial tasks are the last part of this article.And finally, it ends with some general conclusions.Luego de la lectura de artículos relacionados con los asuntos administrativos, publicados en los primeros 50 números de la revista Universidad EAFIT – entonces denominada Temas Administrativos –, se presenta el análisis de las ideas recopiladas sobre el administrador, sus funciones en la empresa y su relación con la sociedad. En la primera parte se trabaja sobre una posible definición preliminar, del administrador. También se elabora una descripción del proceso, en que Antioquia, daría la transición del empresario al administrador.
