AMOEBA embeds a local spatial autocorrelation statistic in an iterative procedure in order to identify spatial clusters (ecotopes) of related spatial units. We provide an analysis of the computational complexity of the original AMOEBA and develop an alternative formulation that reduces computational time without losing optimality. Empirical evidence is provided using georeferenced socio-demographic data in Accra, Ghana. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.enghttps://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/issn/1435-5930A computationally efficient method for delineating irregularly shaped spatial clustersarticlealgorithmautocorrelationcluster analysisempirical analysisspatial analysisstatistical analysisAccraGhanaGreater Accra2021-04-12Duque, Juan C.Aldstadt, JaredVelasquez, ErmilsonFranco, Jose L.Betancourt, Alejandro10.1111/j.1538-4632.2010.00810.x
