La consolidación de la producción del oro en la región ha generado ingresos extras a los municipios a través del Sistema General de Regalías (SGR), lo cual incrementa los fondos disponibles para la inversión social y crecimiento. Para verificar esta intuición, el trabajo emplea estadísticas descriptivas para analizar las tendencias de la producción de la minería en el Chocó y los distintos proyectos de inversión social financiados con los ingresos por concepto de regalías. Además, se expone información del comportamiento de indicadores socioeconómicos relacionados con la educación, salud, empleo y pobreza, con la finalidad de observar si la inversión social por ingresos de regalías se ve reflejada en la variación del comportamiento de las variables. El análisis descriptivo permite demostrar que a pesar del incremento de la producción y los ingresos por SGR en el Chocó, los resultados en educación, empleo y pobreza no manifiestan un mejoramiento significativo. Pero, pese a esto, no se considera ineficaz el aporte por regalías, debido a que el comportamiento de estos indicadores está vinculado a problemas estructurales de las distintas entidades gubernamentales que componen el departamento, tema que está fuera del alcance de este trabajo.This article takes a descriptive approach to the relationship between the increase in mechanized gold mining and the evolution of economic growth and social welfare in the department of Chocó. The consolidation of gold production in the region has generated extra income to the municipalities through the General Royalties System (SGR), which increases the funds available for social investment and growth. To verify this intuition, the paper uses descriptive statistics to analyze trends in mining production in Chocó and the various social investment projects financed with royalty revenues. In addition, information is presented on the behavior of socioeconomic indicators related to education, health, employment and poverty, with the purpose of observing whether the social investment from royalty revenues is reflected in the variation of the behavior of these variables. The descriptive analysis shows that despite the increase in production and SGR revenues in Chocó, the results in education, employment and poverty do not show a significant improvement.
