The following paper deals with the relationship between elocution and understanding. The purpose is to present four arguments against the usual dissociation of understanding and rhetorical elocution: First, there are not philosophical reasons for to dissociate the natural way of speck and the rhetorical one. Second, because the discourse is always intentional a rhetorical dimension is inseparable from the meaning of the expressions. Third, the referential function of the rhetorical discourse depends of several functions associates with the rhetorical discourse. Fourth, the elocution can be understood as a reason for the choice of arguments, and not necessarily as an instrument for the persuasion.eng
